I'm Belgian I am not in the military but I have an airborne Flag in my room and once in a while I play this song and salute the flag to remember the brave soldiers who fought in ww2! I respect every veteran and those who are still active in the military, thank you for keeping us safe

There are few versions of this song with instrumentals. This is certainly one of the few- and the most beautiful!

The final verse is the one pop would sing after a few beers camping, but I remember the lines differently. "....his innards were a hanging from his paratrooper boots. They took a spoon and filled his boots and left him there to lay and he ain't gonna jump no more....? Mom said the played an album of these at the party before they left in '65. She said the lyrics over "beautiful dreamer" were the worst for her as a young wife.

im in the netherlands and I'm are a army student. every time when I think about this song I go to the army base and go to the American soldiers and sing it with them😅 I like this song alot

I'm from Portugal and my Grandfather served Portuguese Paratroopers ("Boinas Verdes de Portugal") As he always sang this song I decided to come here to remember him and thank all the military in the world Vets Or Fallen🇵🇹❤️🇺🇲

A good version, but I prefer the one by J. Speranza (a former trooper of the 101st). My uncle on my mom's side served with Speranza during WWII!

This is the 101st Airborne version. The 82nd Airborne is a little different. Those are the only two I’ve heard that were actually sung by soldiers.
