It does. You can emulate it. Or play it well in a modern PC. Use Build Gdx.
We can all blame Atari for this mess. Jace Hall has expressed interest in doing a proper source port, but the wankers at modern Atari - who sadly own the IP - shot him down every single time.

How did the IP end up in Atari's hands? Or was it always their property from the start? Sorry, I'm not up to date with stuff:D I know that Monolith developed the game and at the time it was published by GT Interactive but that sure changed, right?

NightDive Studios actually wanted to buy the Blood IP but Atari demanded so much money which ND couldn't afford.
I got a recommendation for you; play Daikatana v 1.3. A group of fans went in and spent 10 years I think fixing the game, and now, if you download patch 1.3, you can play without the sidekicks. It is actually an extremely fun, old school shooter without the annoying sidekicks, and I highly recommend it to you.

Man I went to BloodGDX forum to ask about cutscenes and saw there link to this video to which they commented that it's shame he said cutscenes does not work when they do. So I asked what is the deal with that cause for me cutscenes does not work either. Only to be pointed to this readme.txt by creator himself :D . This indeed works and was really easy and quick to do.

It cannot be emphasised enough just how SIMPLE Blood GDX makes playing Blood again! Especially if you're interested in some of the fantastic mods out there, it makes everything run perfect and painless on modern pc's. Works with steam and gog versions flawlessly
BloodGDX plays the cutscenes just fine, there were some bugs with the video playback when it comes to mods like Bloody Pulp Fiction or Death Wish but with the new version out those are fixed as well. Also the port is still not finished, updates come regularly so at some point it will be fully accurate to the original game.

Glad you told me bloodgdx played the cutscenes or else I never would've bothered trying to get 'em to work. Thought it was just one of those things that didn't work in the port yet, turns out it just needs a little setup to get working.
@ZaxxerDog

I don't remember doing much to set things up, I think I made a "movie" folder and that was it. Basically you have to look into Blood.ini to see where the game wants to access the videos from and set it up accordingly. BGDX can be a bit finnicky at this point, sometimes things change from version to version but you know, it's still beta.
@luigimaster111

Wasn't all that finicky, this sort of setup should be expected considering the cutscenes were streamed off the CD originally. I just didn't expect BloodGDX to be so fully featured already.

Yep, you can do lots of things with it already (mods work well and easy to use, you can have extra voxels, 3D skyboxes etc.). Look here if you need help, the developer frequents these boards: forums.duke4.net/forum/42-bloodgdx/

Love this game. Number 1 shooter of all times for me. Still play through it once a year.
The CD version of Infuscomus(bloods theme) is waaaay better than the midi version
After seeing this and your other video on Blood, I went to go try the game myself. I had missed out on it when growing up, along with a lot of other classics, and decided it was time to give it a go. If only I had known when I was younger that I was missing one of the most fun, charming, and exciting games I've ever played. As somebody who never played Duke Nukem and missed Blood in the 90s who is just now playing it, I can say it really holds up. There isn't a moment in Blood that doesn't have me intrigued or grinning.
You're incredibly thorough bro - thanks for your thoughts on this. Blood 1 & 2 were completely crazy and fun- I used to make levels with the Build engine iway back in the 90's with a fellow tech support guy i worked with Ken. ken , if you are seeing this - cheers and i miss ya bro! But we would take calls and load up the engine while solving problems. I miss those days. Cheers for the memories and they BETTER bring back BLOOD!
1 year later and we have nBlood (which I believe is even more accurate) and Nightdive have announced a remaster.
Funny coincidence, I just started playing Blood on the GDXBlood sourceport! And when I see you playing, I realize how much I suck at it. (also, dozens of people will address this in the comments, but you can actually have the cutscenes in BloodGDX, all you have to do is to extract the original files in the game folder usind Daemon Tool or IZarc)
God, do I love this game. I really wish for an update or a remaster. Crudox cruo! :)
Thank you so much! I played Blood without additional files, and I played it entirely with annoying input lag. Time to download Blood GDX!
The CD music at the beginning of the carnival level is so good!
I am glad you like blood and give it attention, one of the best FPS games I have ever played along with Doom, Duke Nukem and Heretic.
Thank you very much for this video. I was looking for a way to play this game smoothly for like two years and i finally have a chance to do so.
Damn this was both interesting as hell and informative nice job
I'd love to see a port of Blood and Blood 2 on modern consoles similar to what was done with Duke 3D World Tour. Got Blood back when it first came out for PC.
This was wonderful and I'm definitely going to be playing Blood in some form within the week. GGman, you gotta help us all get the source code released! Maybe they'll listen to a substantial youtuber like you, you're helping so many people get into the classics!

Always appreciate mod reviews.
One of the most forgotten, underrated games out there.
Thanks for covering this topic. I've been meaning to go back to this game again but I'd prefer to have something that's up in running in just a few clicks, as opposed to the DOSbox version that's out there on Steam and GOG.
Thanks for this video. Havnt played blood yet and was too lauy to look into what the best experience is
You finally did it. Good job Big Sonny Jim
"That day" is gonna come. A port to the Kex Engine by Night Dive Studios is in the works.
Great overview, as always!
Thanks for this video! From it, I learned of BloodGDX and with that, I finally got to enjoy the masterpiece that is Blood. Except the first addon, this is made by people clearly not knowing how to design levels, but that's a different topic.
Just started to play this Game. It's Amazing!! This Game deserve a good badass HD Remake like Doom got its 4th Game.
I spent some time working on qBlood which underwent a name change to "TransFusion" at the request of the trademark holders. TransFusion was made with a modified Quake source port called DarkPlaces. The team I worked with were great guys from all over and I fondly look back on it. I don't begrudge any Blood fan, however low-skilled, for wanting to work with Blood and try to get a revitalization project going. It certainly was a lot of fun for me and my friends.
The more you talk about Blood the more I think that I really need to play this game.
I've been waiting for this!

You can run the cutscenes in GDX you just need to fiddle around with the file locations
Theres no business like showbusiness and now weve come around and have an official modern release! god this game is even better than i remember it
The only beacon of hope we have is that Atari may very well go out of business again (they did Kickstarter for Roller Coaster Tycoon on Switch ffs), and the IP could be auctioned off to a real publisher like Devolver Digital.
@alesin1992
3 жыл бұрын
The problem is that Atari doesn't own the IP for Blood, only the publishing rights. The best that could happen was the Fresh Supply remaster, but the actual Blood trademark and intellectual property belongs to Warner fucking Bros of all things since they bought Monolith.
I honestly love this game
That agonizing moment when a new video comes out you really want to watch but only the 360p version has been processed yet

I love both soundtracks, but the MIDI version feels more like "im playing a game", which is not a bad thing IMO, it just fits better however the cd-rom music out of the game context is amazing to listen to
Someone asked Kaiser about the status of BloodEX on Twitter not that long ago. Your guess is pretty spot on about it - he mentioned that he has intentions to go back to it but when that can happen is up in the air due to how obscenely busy he is with everything else he's working on currently.
I've heard about Blood GDX, avoided it because it looked unfinished, but might give it a spin if the game is playable now. I've been using the launcher some guy on GOG made that comes with maps and BMOUSE, which has served pretty well for being just pre-configured DOSBox.
@Chozo_Ghost

I hope your experience with GDX went better than mine. Surprisingly, setting the whole thing up and even the part about installing Java was pretty seamless, but the game itself just feels...off to me. Movement is the biggest issue...Caleb feels like he slips and slides instead of stopping when he should. You let go of the "Move Forward" key and he doesn't stop as quickly as Duke and Lo Wang do. Not sure if that is how it originally was or not, but I'm too used to BloodCM to try to get used to that aggravation lol
@TritnewNG
6 жыл бұрын
I think it was definitely how the original game controlled, at least in my experience. Caleb's movement has always felt way more slippery to me then Duke and Lo Wang's movements, it's just way more noticeable in BloodGDX then it was in the original game because of the rendering of OpenGL. But take what I say with a grain of salt since it's just speculation. :V

My favourite shooter of 90s
Blood is criminally underrated. Especially when it comes to edgy 90's shooters that don't give two shits about going easy on the player, try finding many other shooters where the first level has rapidfire hitscan enemies. Shit's brutal.
YESSS I COME BACK FROM UNI TO THIS!

I actually prefer the midi because the more upbeat energeticness of it (ESP compared to the CD OST) creates kind of a twisted dichotomy between the visuals and the atmosphere that underlines the game's dark humor.
"Just because you can, doesn't mean you should" I think i'll remember that for the rest of my life.
Family and I used to all play multiplayer on our lan connection as kids. Love this damn game. The mall was out favorite.
glad you agree that the explosions sometimes don't hit all the enemies in GDX. Other issues I noticed is sometimes enemies run around in circles if they are in small rooms, and the gib sprite that flies out of people when you blow them up is the wrong gone. That particular gib sprite has an animation while it is spinning in the air, and a sprite for when it is on the floor (though it never used that as it would vanish as it hit the floor in the original game) but it only shows its floor sprite flying out of enemies.
Played through all of Blood as soon as I heard about GDX. Was still thirsty after I finished it, so now I'm working my way through Death Wish.
Honestly speaking, I loved the gameplay because it was so smooth and fluid and only liked the first episode. I felt the other episodes had just run out level design ideas and I felt it could've been way better. The game had so much potential, but was missed.
the good news is that bloodGDX now runs the cinematics just fine.
I am so glad that people are still talking about Blood. DooM and Blood were my first 2 FPS games when I was 4 and 6. I personally feel Monolith failed with BlooD 2. They did really well with Fear, but that game died and they're making LoTR games now :( Blood is forever a classic for me and I'd love a Remaster!
Blood is an absolute masterpiece of an old school shooter. The atmosphere is insane.
BloodGDX is fucking incredible, it works fucking fantastic now a year later after this video was posted. I never played the game before but it absolutely my favorite fucking game right now.
I got the cinematics to work! Not only that, but you have the option to choose the CD music or the MIDI sountrack! It is EPIC!!! 😉🖒
