I mean it's not shameful and women are not gross for having menstrual cycles, but I think acknowledging that you find it gross is fine. Poop, pee, and snot are all perfectly normal parts of human physiology and I find them gross.

@@dreamchord4544 yup agree with all that, I think it’s just changing the narrative around these things when talking openly about them because a lot of men find it gross to talk about and I think that’s sad. We need to grow up and be able to talk about poop, pee, and blood when referring to these events without getting grossed out. Just my personal opinion and what I’ve come across with, with men and talking about periods and birthing.

I don’t know what this is like in Canada (I’m in the US), but I cannot recommend pelvic floor therapy enough! A pelvic floor therapist can help with core rehabilitation, heaviness during ovulation/period (I get that too due to a slight prolapse), and a whole bunch of other things. It’s been the most helpful physical help I’ve received postpartum/prenatal Also, thank you for sharing. I actually had a very very similar experience to you.

Pelvic floor therapy has been a game changer for me - & I didn’t start seeing my PT until nearly 2.5yrs postpartum! She’s helped me so much with quite a few things, one of which is working on my deep core & rebuilding my core strength. I think you’d find it so helpful, especially after having 4 babies. Can really be life changing!

My postpartum was actually really good! I also had a quick recovery due to a smooth sailing birth, only bled three weeks, lost my baby weight pretty much right away, didn’t have super crazy hormonal symptoms, etc. Overall the hardest part was some anxiety and sadness early on but it subsided by 6 weeks and wasn’t severe, so I don’t consider that to be postpartum depression. I know that a positive experience can feel annoying when you had a hard one and want someone to relate to, but for those mamas wondering if it’s possible to have a good experience and want that hope I wanted to share!

Hi everyone! I haven’t had a postpartum experience with a full term pregnancy yet but I am hoping I will in the future! But I had a miscarriage at 10 and a half weeks later so I have wanted to share my story for anyone going through miscarriage ❤️ you’re still postpartum in that stage and it is a lot on your body ❤️ you’re not alone in that friend. I just had my first normal cycle and we lost our baby seven months ago. Previously I’ve had cycles that had extra clots, were I didn’t know if I even ovulated. Crazy hormonal mood swings. My cycles ranged from 45 days long to 20 days long and were so unpredictable. It was so stressful for someone wanting to get pregnant soon. I feel like I am just now getting over that hill of my hormones being so out of wack. If this is similar to your story I hope it’s comforting ❤️ I’m praying for you!

I tend to walk at 3.1 or 3.2 mph and I also do yoga for 20 minutes a day most days. Both of these activities have helped me gain muscle, feel more energetic and they're slowly helping me take the extra weight off.

I just wanted to say that it’s okay to not be a work out person, it’s okay to not be ready to “lose the weight”, it’s okay to just start accepting your new body than try and get the old back. As we age, have more babies and less time it becomes harder to “spring back” but that’s so normal! I didn’t feel ready to exercise (for the first time since well before TTC) until 20 months postpartum once I finished feeding and really craved that time for myself. Again I was not an exercise person but the benefits of it far outweighed the fat loss. The strength was insane and being able to do anything I wanted with my toddler, my sleep, my eating habits, my mental clarity and even my relationship ALL was so much better because I made time for myself, I gained a new confidence and appreciation for my body. It’s okay to take time, it’s okay to try different things until you find what you truely love. Showing our kids that keeping active is important but it’s just as important so we can continue to be around to teach these lessons. I’ve lost 25kg in the last year but I must admit, I’ve been wanting to lose that 25kg for nearly 6 years and until you’re ready and your body is ready, it’s so hard! Work on getting a walk in every day and some core exercises and I’m sure you’ll start to see a difference over time 🥰

Shivering can be a trauma response. It can be brought on by even talking about the trauma you’ve experienced. In postpartum we are very vulnerable emotionally and it could have been the way your body responded to any kind of trauma while you were newly postpartum.

It’s actually a very normal response to labor because of the amount of adrenaline you have during the birth process. Not saying birth isn’t traumatic but I’d say the shaking doesn’t always come from emotions. It’s just a physical reaction to the hormones in your body.

She was right there but not coming out so they had to cut me and vacuum her out. The healing from that was so painful and hard. I would look at my baby and cry and be so angry that she made me feel this way and that I hated my life now. 6 days pp I had to go into the hostel because where they cut me and stitched me back up got infected! I had postpartum depression with my second so it made me quite hesitant to have more but with my 3rd in April it was so incredible my birth went perfect funny tho that I got super sick with a cold & the rest of my family did (not baby tho praise Jesus!) & then a flu it was a month of us sick, breastfeeding was hard so I pumped for 6 weeks but God is so gracious and I’ve had an incredible postpartum. No depression, a super content baby, my hubby got laid off for 3 months and has been a huge help to us im kind of in awe of his kindness. All my fears about birth were washed away, all thanks to Him! For any mamas that need to hear this if your birth or postpartum doesn’t go your way it’s ok God is still so good. With my second I prayed and prayed for my birth and had such a redemptive birth but I had such horrible postpartum depression I was like God why! But He had a reason now I can help others along their journeys, I can give advice bc I’ve been there, I can see Gods faithfulness that brought me through, and the list goes on! He maybe making your story this way to show others❤

I had high fevers ( the first time up to 106°F with meds) they never figured out what was wrong but the last time I was there they gave me a higher and longer dose of antibiotics and that took care of it. It was rough. my second kid is now 4 months old and it has been so great postpartum just not having fevers and being able to have a normal recovery.

I had a similar diastasis recti experience. I had a really painful separation with my second pregnancy. During the pregnancy I had about 2 months where it was soooo painful to do certain motions. I had to stop working out completely and going on long walks pushing my toddler in the stroller was also painful. Now I’m 5 weeks postpartum and also on my journey to healing it. You are not alone in this experience ❤

I’m going through pelvic floor therapy and it’s hard on me mentally. It’s crazy how little is known about it or supported. I was told by doctors I’d just need surgery but I advocated for physical therapy. I’m almost ten months post partum with baby number 2. My stomach is for sure soft but went down pretty good by month nine. I’m about 8 pounds out from my pre pregnancy weight. My boys are 17 months apart so back to back births are tough ❤ I am also cold all the time now too. While pregnant I was warm all the time.

I feel like it's important to not use words like gross in relation to the female cycle and symptoms related to birth. There is a very traditional narrative that birth, menstruation, the vagina is "gross" or "dirty" and I think it's important to talk about these things, but not connecting it with these annotations. But thank you for an honest video about your experience. :)

I think people can use whatever words they like. Dealing with continual blood clots and prolonged periods...sure yes, our cycle is a miracle of nature and beautifully intricate, but it is also gross .....it can get messy after all. Have you never gotten period blood all over your hand and fingers or have to empty a menstrual cup every hour for a day during an exceptionally heavy period day, poking into it to check how much of the cup is filled with large clots? After a while, you get frustrated, sore and tired and it is just plain gross and annoying after a while and you wish you didn't have to deal with it....

@@Marfmellow88 I think it's not as much about our individual opinions of our cycles and what we have to deal with, but the common narrative that it contributes to. And if an influencer uses words such as gross in relation to birth and menstrual blood, then we have a long way to go in normalizing this part of the story. Additionally, it can make especially younger viewers feel "wrong" if they experience a similar story and it's associated with negative wording.

Just wanted to comment to say that the time between ovulation and your period starting is the same every month (plus or minus one day), but the time from the start of your cycle until ovulation can vary widely and still be super normal! So you may have just had a cycle where ovulation came slightly later! I know you've previously mentioned practicing NFP so if you did know that you ovulated and your period came later than usual then it makes sense that you're suspecting a pregnancy, but just in case you didn't already know about ovulation being variable I wanted to leave a comment :)

I had a VBAC a year and a half ago and apparently have an umbilical hernia and diastasis recti this time around. I was told by a surgeon (for my hernia) during a consult that you’re more likely to have diastasis recti in pregnancies after a c-section because the OB’s often will be rough with your abs and split your abdominal wall more than they need to for c-sections and then the pregnancies after will be blamed. I’d recommend breathing exercises where you tighten your core in a mirror (so you can see that you’re tightening completely) and lots of compression over time. Ballet and barre classes are AMAZING and low impact on your core and pelvic floor though!

I tend to encourage myself to relax and take it easy during the first 6 weeks but after that I want to get back into a routine and tend to push myself a bit too much. I have experience post partum rage with both of my pregnancies and those symptoms have shown after the 6 week mark! After a very long, physically exhausting labor with little sleep for days, followed by postpartum sleep deprivation, we were welcomed home by the hospital with a stomach bug, and not much later what I think was Covid. I think all this was very hard on my body, and I dealt with some issues downstairs, thyroid issues, and vision issues that I believe stemmed from the hard labor, lack of sleep, and sicknesses all at once. I will say that for me, I always notice a plateau postpartum until I’m able to start working out again (6 weeks was not it for babies 3 and 4 so it was later once babies were sleeping more). Once I started strengthening again, that’s when my body started changing again and I began to feel more like myself. He took 12hrs & he almost did cesarean but, he came finally. Thanks goodness! He weighted 9lbs 12oz. He was big. He looked like a 3 or 4 month old baby! I have no idea if this is helpful for anyone, but I had a different experience after my third (she’s now 3 months old). A week postpartum I was feeling worse not better, and I could hardly walk without hunching over. I thought it was an infection and I was freaked out, but after a day in the ER and a ton of tests, I had a D&C to clear out everything that my body was struggling to take care of and I felt better immediately! It could’ve gotten worse if I hadn’t gone in, so if you feel like something is off, it’s worth just going in and making sure everything is fine! My healing has gone so well since then! Also, for everyone saying pelvic floor therapy, I also agree! My issue isn’t my pelvic floor or my core, but apparently my feet are really weak and need help! I would’ve had no idea and getting back to running was so challenging! Have someone looking at you specifically is SO helpful!

And buy pants with a stretchy waist band:) I exercise 5 days a week and had my last child 7 years ago and I still look like I'm in my first trimester. Acceptance is best ❤

Pelvic floor or other physical therapy was super helpful for me! I didn’t have DR, but I have severe prolapse.

Also, with your cold flashes, do you think you were anemic? When my iron is low, I get cold. Hemorrhaging after birth can make ladies severely anemic.

Why do people ask if people are expecting?! If they’re not telling you they’re pregnant it’s not your business!

I'm a first-time mom, and my son just turned one. I'm just now accepting that I have postpartum depression. It's not that I didn't realize it before, but I didn't like thinking I had it because I didn't feel I had the right to?? hahaha And something you mentioned is also happening to me - I have too much anger. My baby is very demanding; he has never slept through the night since he was born and wakes up every 2 hours at night. He's not interested in food and only wants milk. I know this is temporary and will soon be a memory, but I cry every day from being so tired and sad. I didn't think I could feel so miserable. I've lost 20 kilos, and people say I look good (because I've lost more weight than I gained when I first got pregnant), but what they don't know is that I don't feel healthy. I'm weak and don't know what to do. I just wanted to vent; I hope to connect with several moms going through something similar, so I don't feel alone :")

Have you gotten your period back? I had a hard time after my second until about 12 months pp when my period returned. I reached out to my care team at about 11 months and the first thing they recommended was a supliment called floradix, I don't know if it helped but I did use it. Please talk to your doctor about it.
