I was 22 watching this live and I've been quoting that "the kids are playing their tails off, and their coaches are screwing it up" every year since then. Every year a coach should say this during an interview to pay homage.

The assistant coach he yelled at is Josh Harrica. In 2022, he was my daughter's high school principal in upstate NY. Very kind man, a great school leader... he is well respected

Buckeyes ended up winning, 35-24. I was there - that play changed everything.

One can only imagine what Nick Saban's reaction and response would have been if he had been the head coach on the Michigan State sideline.

I’m a die hard MSU fan and this is just funny. I don’t care what team you root for, this shit is funny.

i was on the team at michigan state at this time. it was so confusing as to what was going on when we sent in our field goal team. we didn’t have the whole PAT out there and it was only 3rd down is was a GA that sent them in

I miss it.

The underrated part of this: watch how the Buckeye defense isn't sure what to do but gets lined up properly for the block. I think A.J. Hawk gets Ashton lined up on the edge and makes the play.

This is the one downside to being at the game...missing this meltdown haha

There are a lot of great coaching rager moments, but this is vastly underrated and deserves to be up there with "Playoffs?!?!"

Yea, 20-7 vs 17-14 in one play. The 2 score difference with your offense on the field is a very impactful scenario.

Huge MSU fan, but I have lots of love for THE OSU. The announcer after JLS's interview, "honest assessment" 🤣

and 1 year later, he is now HEAD coach at arkansas, thanks to a freak motorcycle accident

all on john l smith. The head coach tells the ST coach when he wants them out there. The ST coach can't tell the offense to spike it thats on the head coach.

I was at that game on the 20 yard line on the east side of the field as Youboty came down the line. Sweet!

No coach that's left Louisville has ever succeeded anywhere else afterwards. Schnellenberger lasted one season at OU, Smith flamed out at Michigan State, Petrino imploded with the Falcons then couldn't keep it in his pants at Arkansas, and Strong bombed at Texas.

I remember this game. Up 17-7 on TheeOSU and getting ready to kick a chip shot FG at the end of the half to go up 20-7 and boom John L and his coaching staff strikes again!

I played in this game and when that happened we knew it was over even though we were up 3. That took the wind out our sails. " They are who we thought they were, and we let em off the hook! " Smh

I remember watching this game live. My boss at the time was HUGE Michigan State fan so I entertained the notion of rooting for MSU. Spartans played the first half tough and smart; and deserved to be in the lead at the half. But seeing them pretty much shit their pants during that last debacle of a field goal attempt changed my mind, could never root for MSU after that; poor coaching, game management, situational awareness.

That kicker would probably have missed it anyway. that was John Goss. he was 4 for 11 that year. Cost us the michigan game. John L kept blowing people out at the beginning of the year and never let the kid kick to see if he had it. We found out he didn't have it during the clutch moments. They would have been better off with Haughey.

@sonofsarek totally agree. At least Michigan kept the same endzone design when they switched back to turf. Also, the green part of the Ohio Stadium turf does not look close to the proper hue of grass.
