With the amount of acid he was dealing with, a box of bicarb would be needed. I would have dumped half a box of the stuff down the drain to save the pipes and the equipment. Running water isn't enough to get rid of all of that concentrated acid.

You'd end up with carpal tunnel pumping that spray bottle before dilute sodium bi-carb would neutralize concentrated sulfuric acid. You'd be better off just dumping a box on it.

I dont understand why you would take that risk?. You really should go to the eye doctor to make sure theres no damage. By the way kneeling on hard surfaces every day can damage your knees. Why not get some knee pads. or you can buy a workers padded kneeling frame, then you dont have to kneel in sewerage or hard surfaces everyday.? I love your work but this video was cringe.

Here in the states we can use lye (sodium hydroxide) as a drain cleaner. It's basic instead of acidic. It tends to work pretty well unless the blockage is real bad (or something it can't dissolve). I've used it a number of times to clear drain blockages in my house, including once for a main line clog (poured it directly down the main stack vent on the roof).

Yeah I know the feeling, I work for cars in corrosion so I deal with muriatic acid all the time. That things a little. But you get used to it.. however I had a new experience about 2 months ago, I was redoing all of the sewer lines in the basement of a house and all the lines were above my head.. PVC cement and primer, mixed together, when I was pressing a 4 inch T-fitting together, a nice big blob of it drip into my eyeball. I just had to deal with it and hold the fitting together until it cured. So the fitting didn't push itself apart, and then I have to redo it all, over the years I've gotten a lot of things in my I probably the worst one was when I was welding hot BB fuzzed itself to my eyeball. That was an emergency room visit. Chunk of metal scraped off my cornea, fun stuff, but the PVC cement glue. I'm used to swimming in freshwater not saltwater, so if I had to compare what my eyeball was exposed to I would say salt water and pepper spray.

A good example that our daily routine can involve hidden dangers. I had some scares way back when laying sewer and water mains. I was young and never thought much about the dangerous environment we were often working in until something unexpected happened. A few weeks after I had left, the guy doing my old job was caught in a trench collapse. That could have been me, fortunately he only had minor injuries, but he had to be dug out by hand. Glad you are ok Ollie. Take care mate and God bless you and your family. P.S. I hope you managed to revive Ratty.

My heart skipped a beat when i saw the smoke. That strong can burn your lungs or collapse them. Dangerous in a confined space. Not to mention making your able brittle. You did a awesome job. Glad you didn't burn your eyes. I can't believe they left the acid like that. Not good. Beautiful city. Nice view. Be safe sir

What a view! Thanks Ollie. Rough go with the acid! In the states, these kinds of incredibly harsh ‘drain cleaning’ acids are produced in limited quantities and available only to the plumbing trades, and even then, they hardly ever work the way people expect. Nearly every clog can be physically defeated with appropriate tools used experienced plumbers. Edit: Think about getting the Ridgid K9-12 FlexShaft for those small diameter drains

Ollie, I hope you can give the previous plumber a lesson about the dangers of acid. Surely they could smell the spillage 🤔 putting you in danger. Hope you and rat recover soon from the fumes and contact to your eyes and skin. Good job! I will keep your secret tool secret 😅😅
