As single women who is a home owner, I try to do most of my home repairs and maintenance. My son is qualifying to be an electrician, so he knows what needs to be done there, and I've always looked after the plumbing in the immediate reaches of the sinks and baths. There is a few things on my 'would like to do' list. If those folks had youtube channels I could watch to see how they work and ask what they charge for said work, I would feel a lot more comfortable getting in contact. What you do is so much better than some faceless recommendations and a calling card.

For the drain pipe not being buried deep enough, reminds me of the situation my parents had at their last house. The well company didn't bury the well pipe deep enough- it's supposed to be at least 27 inches deep here to be below the freeze line. We didn't know it wasn't until the guy running the grader broke the power line for it when grading for the front parking area. 🙄 The guy packed up his grader and left, without saying a word. Dad came home and boom, the whole system shut down, we had no water in the house. The well company tried to deny responsibility for the shoddy work.

Really enjoy your KZread content! Grease traps are the same all over the world….wretched and evil smelling. We worked at Chicago’s O’Hare airport for a major International airline in the Buildings and Maintenance Department. Tasked with cleaning the trap for the kitchen in the “Sky Lounge” for VIPs, we set about the task. When we cracked the cover on the trap, we both gagged and dropped back several steps. N A S T Y! We did the job, and I threw away that uniform set as I couldn’t get the smell out of the clothes. They had to close the VIP lounge for a day to have an outside cleaning company come in to disinfect and deodorize the area. Tyvek suits are the answer!! Use them, peel them, toss them into an outside rubbish bin. Anyway, watching you clear the drain for the bakery brought back all those smells. Big respect to you for getting that mess cleared and I’m grateful you were outside for most of that job. Keep up the good work. “Cheers” to you from Dan in Colorado, USA!

Watching roots be pulled from a pipe is not unlike watching parasitic worms coming out of a host body, especially when they just keep coming up and you wonder how all of it fit into the tiny space it came from. There's a certain morbid fascination with it.

Hey I have done a lot of digging ! The best tool for small hole /trench/ carefully digging. Is a hand held (short handle) pick axe.. sharp! Will make short work for hard soils and rooted soil! (Sharp axe cuts roots easy) I have used a lot of digging tools pick axe works best second a digging bar ! But you can get a hand held jack hammer drill with different bits as well but the cost over a pick axe ? Your choice!

Just a thought champ, what about putting more markings on your hose attached to the jetta. Maybe like you had the red tape as a warning your near the start so you can shut the water off, but then also yellow, blue and black tape at say every 2-5 metres. That way you can quickly see how far in the set-up is. Maybe even then put an epoxy layer over the tape so it stays on longer, not a huge amount, just enough to waterproof the tape to the hose.
