My husband & I took a riverboat ferry today. Thanks to you, i waved at everyone who waved at us. Before, i was too inhibited to do so, so thank you Solo-san. Much love ❤❤❤ I cant believe a ferry employee drove you, because you didn't pack an umbtella. That's such an incredible kindness!

I am so envious right now! The beautiful ryokan, the delicious food, and, above all, the private onsen. I'd be tempted to get into the onsen and not get out until bedtime. Sigh. I only hope that one day I can experience it for myself. Thank you, as always, STJ, for taking us along with you.

The destination today was beautiful. Hotel room was definitely a 10. I'm sure the onsen was a wonderful experience. Both dinner and breakfast looked delicious. By the way, we have a 5 second rule, so your 3 seconds was well within the time limit. Will catch you in the next one. Take care, stay safe.

I've always wanted to try an onsen, and that looks like a fantastic option. I would have some trouble with a traditional ryokan where you're always on the floor, but this hybrid with Western style furniture would definitely work for me. And having your own private onsen is a great luxury that I didn't know existed.

That room is meant to be shared with someone no doubts on that it is so well appointed. Great service to drive you to the station ... unbelievable. Your fares seemed quite reasonable this time I thought. Something we would all like to experience for sure. Not envious though as you have worked hard to be able to enjoy a little pampering. Beautiful big meals and so nicely prepared and served. Definitely one of your best excursions. Thanks for sharing. Bushyboy Oz.

I haven't finished the video yet. I just wanted to say that my first onsen experience was in a natural onsen on a mountainside with the snow falling gently, the river below, and another mountain rising across the river. No noises from machinery. I was told to bring a hand towel from the hotel, and that's all. A ¥200 honor box was the fee. I followed my colleague's lead, the pre-washing and the "shyness" towel. Once I was able to sink into the bath, I soaked my towel, folded it, and placed it on my head. It was the most relaxing experience! Needless to say, I slept for the 45 minutes back to the hotel. I miss my business trips to Japan, of which there were many. Whenever that colleague was at my site, we'd do onsen Sundays. I did spend a weekend at a ryokan twice. Once for an overnight work party, which had a small onsen. That had a weighted tray with a wooden bottle of hot sake and a wood square cup. Ring the bell for more sake, which we did. Another time was a private stay booked by the company because I wanted to experience it. It was near the business hotel I had stayed at. That had an indoor bath and was well decorated. Both times, I slept Japanese style, on a futon on tatami. The local office was always good to me because I wanted to learn the culture, eat the food, and try the language. And yes, the sulfur smell is real.

Each time you depart from Beppu, I wondered about the hot springs. They sounded incredible, and I thank you, STJ, for sharing your experience at the Onsen. I probably wouldn't want to leave such a lovely room, as the private onsen is perfect. That view from the 8th floor lounge and all the free drinks and snacks are just the cherry on top.

I always cry a little when you don't eat your umeboshi, STJ. I didn't like umeboshi the first time I tried them but it was quite big and all of the salt overwhelmed me. I tried a smaller one some time later and I fell in love with that salty sour flavour. I now buy a large container whenever I can get them in Australia.

What a beautiful ryokan! (105.8F is a little too hot for me though; I prefer a wimpy 102 or 103) The presentation of food, in differently shaped, colored, and decorated plates and bowls always charms me. How kind of one of the ryokan staff to drive you to the train station - kudos to that person!
