Blind Test // 90s Gabber #2 - Episode 22 (Electronic Beats TV)

For this 22nd episode of Electronic Beats Blind Test series we journey into the world of gabber music, a sub-genre of hard techno which found its origins in Rotterdam and Amsterdam in the Netherlands at the beginning of the 90’s. The sound is often personified by up-tempo high-octane beats, distortion, twisted samples, and dark melodies.
To participate in the episode, we invited The Hague’s Happy Hardcore hero Charlie Lownoise, Ruffneck/Enzyme Records boss DJ Ruffneck, Dutch hardcore veteran and Mokum Records regular Chosen Few, the Godfather of Hardcore Marc Acardipane, cult favourite, radio presenter and DJ since 1984, DJ Dano and lastly Femanyst, the Hard Techno guise of California’s The Lady Blacktronika. We put all of the aforementioned to the test with a selection of 90’s gabber cuts selected by Dark Raver to see if they can recognise them, as always join in the fun, and see how many you can guess yourself.
Please note that this video is not filmed in real time. It’s edited to create some tension so that you in front of the screen can guess as well. It doesn’t say anything about how fast the participants recognised the track etc.
All contestants receive one point for both artist and title correct, but only half a point if they can only guess the artist or the title.

A little Gabber story from the producer of EB.TV and all the Blind Tests: This is the original of the 3rd Euromasters single www.discogs.com/de/release/293011-De-Drie-Van-De-Benzine-Pomp-Rubbish It was a big joke and just made for fun. Paul Elstak got one of the limited whitelabels in his hands and as I knew him already from DJ Gigs he asked if he can release it on Rotterdam Records. So I went to Rotterdam and we did a rework of all tracks and they turned into the 3rd Euromasters single. It's still a joke but was a big seller in the netherlands 😂 Discogs says: Whitelabel only, limited edition 350 copies Track "Doei!" samples the Euromasters tracks "Noiken In Die Koiken" and "Oranje Boven", both released on Rotterdam Records in 1993 as Rot 021 "Oranje Boven". So don't trust Discogs as it was the other way around 😉 PS. this Discogs comment says it all: Sounds like a pisstake on Rotterdam Records but both tracks are HARD and the pressing is LOUD. Recommended!

Hardcore in the electronic music scene has been so pushed back that it's disgraceful... Sure techno and trance are very popular but hardcore has its own culture... I'm so glad to be here part of the scene and have been a part of it since 1991... So many styles have changed my passion for hardcore has never changed

@@oifvet7487 it's funny, been into hardcore, speedcore, gabber from mid 90's - early 2000's, even have a release on Strike Records...for the past 12 years, gotten heavily into Trance/Deep House/Minimal Techno....I couldn't even listen to this newer shit "hardstyle" (which just sounds like rotterdam/Dutch re-hashed) without gagging.

😂😂😂talk about a trip down memory lane.... as a 15yr old in belfast in 1995, I spent my wages from working in a shop searching out and having to specially order in records/ CDs from my local independent record shops! I loved NIN, ministry etc.... saw a 2xcd compilation called ‘industrial f**king strength’ and it blew my mind.... I then searched out the Mokum ‘fxxxking hardcore’ and ‘welcome to the terrordome’ compilations..... then in 1996 I discovered digital hardcore recordings.... the second Atari teenage riot record ‘future of war’ distilled all I loved about gabber, punk rock and industrial...... it’s a different world nowadays for kids, things are collected together in one place online.... not like the old days of indie record shops, gigs, raves.... when like minded people came together and formed friendships and mini communities..... 🥺miss those days
