In Kamen rider series, it prefers real-time transformation than having a different background while transform Sometimes kamen rider will be stopped during transformation (failed to transform) or use their transformation effect to stop enemy's attack, thats why real-time transformation is often used

Saber does it a lot simply because it's production started during covid (2020).

The important thing to keep in mind is that they are not allowed to set off pyrotechnics in places like a city street or a roof top else they risk damaging government property, so it's either only ever have the hero destroy monsters in rock quarries and empty warehouses in order to have a satisfying explosion, (and trust me, while watching Stronger I got really tired of seeing the same quarry every episode), or have digital explosions of varying quality.

the reason CG looks bad is the technology was not mature enough in the early 2000s, the creator from Japan just started to be more innovative. Therefore, don't be too harsh on them lol

thats understanable in 2000. But the CG of Kamen Rider or Super Sentai never improve/upgrade. Just look at Revice. Damn, that is shitty ass CG . There is no upgrade from Kuuga to Revice.

@@faiyer_17 nah, I think the problem is not because they can't do it but because they don't want to, Japan is a pretty old-fashioned country (most of Asia is like that) partly they want to save money as much as possible. and viewers in their country don't complain about the quality of the effects, that's why kaiju movies in japan always use live actors instead of CGI, like it's part of their culture and they don't want to change

@@chungdepgiai I mean, part of it too is that theres only so much money and time to go around and a lot of the people that work on Kamen rider's effects also likely work on Super sentai and others. Good effects takes lots of time, effort, and money. And when you have 50 something episodes a show there's not a lot of time and money to go around for these effects. Especially when you have to balance between the transformations, the attacks, any kinds of explosions, debris, and any backgrounds on top of the continued use of CG characters and vehicles in these series

37:14 the main character is super accident prone so his confidence is shot. In the series, the monsters are these evil genies and our main gets possesed by one. He happens to be immune to their effects so they end up helping him fight the others, taking over as the dominant personality. One of the imagine(evil genie) has the personality of a punk/wanna be gangsta. Also time travel is involved

For the record, the transformation they showed for Ryuki wasn't the usual one. It was just him getting the dragon's power. The usual transformation has images of his suit being overlaid on top of him, as they flip into view.

- In Kamen Rider Blade, the explosions are actually more contained as the monsters need to stay alive for the Riders to absorb them. - In Kamen Rider Hibiki, monsters are only defeated with pure sounds, and the riders' weapons produce these pure sounds, they are all instruments. - In Kamen Rider Den-O he gets more confident because when he goes to red form, he is possessed by one of the monsters in the series, so the guy gives up his body so the monster can fight. - In Kamen Rider Build, the Rabbit and the Tank have special meaning for some characters in the series, it doesn't make sense when you first look at it, but in the context of the series it makes sense for the rabbit and the tank to be a "Best Match"

I have two points I would like to make for this video, otherwise a nice reaction video. 1. There's a fair complaint on how the CGI is in the earlier ones and I'm not arguing for it or anything since it depends on how individuals view it but I would very much prefer you to look past it and see the design of transformation poses and their finisher style. For example, Ryuki dragon kick. I personally find it creative with good pose and dragon breath to engulf the kick in flames. But you were too hung up on bad CGI and didn't comment on its design at all. 2. This second point is not on the reaction but the video used, a lot of the footage used their literal first transformation and I find most of them not being able to represent what their transformation looks like in the majority of the series episodes. Like how Ryuki again forms a contract with the dragon, that only happens in the first episode. And how Kuuga kinda accidentally uses his kick finisher. Basically, there is better footage to represent transformation and finisher for some of the riders shown here.

Thanks for the comment. On the second point, that is a concern I had but as I mentioned towards the start of the video there is no way for me to check for stuff like that without watching the video first, so I just have to trust that people are sending me good links haha

The Revice one isn't the transformation. It's the promo video. So it's not the official transformation. The Genie thing is Revi's inner Demon Vice. And together they're Kamen Rider Revice.

The reason for the three different transformations for the first Kamen Rider is because in the initial episodes, it was a bit more low budget, this the simple footage change. In the show, he could original only transform once he got enough wing energy, kind of like a turbine. Now, the actor that played Ichigo did his own stunts during the first couple of episodes until an accident forced him to go to the hospital. This lead the show to temporarily have the character on hiatus by saying he's fight the villains abroad. When he came back, they have him a new outfit to symbolize how much stronger he's become, being able to transform without the need for wind. And the third form was after the villain group tried to upgrade and hypnotize him a second time, but failed again since he practice a self-hypnosis.

The ichigo pose is very much ICHIGO'S henshin pose. Heisei riders all have their own henshin pose.

50:45 For Toei's tokusatsu show, yes it's a huge trope for villains to explode behind the hero like if you watch power rangers (which uses super sentai footage) you can see that there's a lot of that

For Ex-Aid, the suits look odd because they're meant to invoke video game characters. The 'messed up transformation' was their Level 1 form, which is suited to dealing with the CG monsters, while the suit monsters get the Level 2 forms to fight. Each of the first 5 riders get the Level 1 form, but it eventually got phased out alongside the CG monsters as the stakes got higher. Then the finale arc brought it roaring back into relevance to help deal with a major threat.

1:14:47 this happens a lot more in Super Sentai, stock footage transformation, Kamen Rider ,for the most part, goes for on the spot transformations, that yield very interesting results, most of the time on how cool it looks, the only exceptions to this is KR Ex-aid riders (video game one) level up transformations and KR Saber (the book one)

Ghost also used the stock footage transformations, although Ghost and Ex-Aid don't use it that much after the first 10 or so episodes.

Heisei Phase 2 ended with Zi-O, which is the 10th series of the Phase 2, but is also the 20th Heisei Rider overall (and the 35th primary Kamen Rider, but this is subtle).

It's his opinion... Early CGI looks bad to him and it's ok People don't like how Super Sentai mecha is getting too much into ugly CGI, and I kind of agree, but in the same time I don't really care

In cyborg 009 the main villain is a direct adaptation of shotaro ishinomori's first ever super hero named skull man and yes that same shotaro ishinomori is the dude who created kamen rider and super sentai and yes he had some hand in cyborg 009 plus a few other hidden gems of anime.

Viewtiful Joe IS a direct parody of Kamen Rider. The Sentai aspect was explored by Wonderful 101, by the same director. It's fun to compare the two.

It is a sad fact that Toei (the company that makes Kamen Rider and Super Sentai) has been mistreating their CGI animators for years, with stuff like not updating their salary as much as they should, or increasing the amount of deadlines they have to meet while decreasing the times between each one, the results is what you see, CGI that leaves much to be desired or looks pretty bad, it happens in Super Sentai too, while you have on another spectrum, Tsuburaya's Ultraman franchise, that has maintained and upgraded a really good level of CGI and special effects over the years and into the newest seasons

​@@arielmartinez94oh yeah It's clear by a wide margin that Tsuburaya treats their staff like actual people rather than slaves. They only do one 25 episodes series per year(not counting the UGF series and even then, the director said those series was cheap since it's just fighting infront of a green screen), having the time to do a bunch of stage shows, youtube Channel extras like the Ultra Information Center they're doing on their shorts and other stuff.

Kuuga literally have almost to no budget which is why they can't do much explosion as the series was an experimental and toei didn't want to spend much on it. As the budget is going towards the remake of the first 3 riders.

Hibiki is weird, it wasn’t even supposed to be a Kamen Rider to begin with, but I do like the fact he kills monsters with internal sound waves

It seems like it gets notably better over time. I'm certainly not trying to call the production staff like, incompetent or anything, they worked with what they had! As you said, time constraints, budget constraints, adjusting to new tech, ect. And seems like they made some pretty cool stuff within those constraints a lot of the time.

The first 6 series were actually broadcasted in 60fps which was awesome

Ironically Thunder Gale Revice came out, as he said he wanted to see the old kamen rider henshin pose

Kikaider actually has a cross-over with Kamen Rider Gaim, the orange-themed rider in the show's 30th episode to promote the Kikaider Reboot

The showa riders used the hand movement to trigger the transformation as they all are cyborgs (Amazon is ancient magic) except after Black which are bio mutants, the sequences of poses unlocks/activates the transformation. Most of the Heisei and Reiwa riders transformation are based on the belt itself, they are poses but its all individual styles.

Hibiki (the guy with the drum sticks) was supposed to transform thru a purple flame, whoever made that video clearly didn't show the proper transformations (even Ryuki's was wrong, his transformation is much swifter)

The lack of context hurts you but also You're not seeing the real experience because it's only the First transformations. It's Natural that when most of these guys just got their powers they didn't know what they were doing but many of those scenes were also drawn out in the first episode. Try looking up Kamen Rider Ryuki all henshin and finishers and you will see a big difference. (I choose Ryuki for it's variety but that's beside the point.)

Yeah all the Heisei ones you saw (plus the last two were Reiwa era ones) were their first transformations it's not always what their proper poses are, i.e. Agito and Ryuki do poses for theirs too usually though not shown here and Ghost does one too, amongst others. Last two in the video with majority Heisei were Reiwa, including the seperate video with the demon it's three Reiwa era Rider series total as of right now.

Den-O uses beings known as Imagins to change forms his “base” form is split between the human and the red imagin monotaros. The first design you saw before the red form (sword) is know as plat form. Yes Plat form it’s a pun on platform because train.

So the actor who plays the main character in Den-O played Himura Kenshin in the (AMAZING) live-action Rurouni Kenshin films. One night I was messaging my friend in England who got me into tokusatsu, and I called dude “Rurouni Henshin” 😂😂😂

as for the questions regarding that design change over the year and he started noticing the improvement on the quality of the plastics is that they started to use 3D print to be of use in some ways for the fittings starting from KR build i believe. i saw in some documentary years ago even tho its not used directly but they managed to make the design they way they want with the help of it.

Originally, Kamen Rider didn't have transformation pose. The first Rider (Kamen Rider 1) only needs wind to transform and usually transform during riding his bike. But after the Rider 1's actor got injured, they have to created another character to replaced him for a while as Kamen Rider 2. However the Rider 2's actor didn't have motorcycle license yet, so they have to created another way to transform for him.

Funny that you should mention Joseph, lol. Kivat (the bat thing at 38:40) was voiced by the same guy as young Joseph. XD

It’s because most of the suits have to be put on by a stunt man and performed with so do you have to be designed with performance in mind. So if you have a massive clunky suit, you could easily be damaged and ruin the scene and most of the suits are extremely detailed, so it would be obvious if it was repaired.

judging a CG for an early 2000 kids show in Japan will definitely not aged well. Hell, even high budget Hollywood's CG doesn't aged well.

Most Riders do have a unique pose, which they do right before transforming. Like W, where both their arms form a W.

They weren't able to do the explosion on Kuuga because they were filming on a building people used, so all they could do was CGI the explosion in there.

I'm sure someone pointed it out already, but no, Ex-Aid didn't screw up the transformation. The fat level 1 form is intentional.

Kuuga's first mighty form henshin was actually redone with better effects in a special edition compilation movie of the first 2 episodes of kuuga. It's less of a cg model replacement and more of a static image overlay. It's not great but its alot less off putting

While I love it and it's my top 3 show wise, when that design first got leaked, I don't think there was a single person on the entire internet that liked it. The most positive you could find was basically just apathy. It's the first time I remember people saying a single design has ruined the franchise. If I'm remembering right, the first pic came from a child's dinner placemat lol

I think the f/x work inconsistency, even within the same season, can be chalked up to the insane amount of content these shows produce. Each season has around 45 to 50 weekly episodes on average. Plus multiple 60 to 90 minute movies and direct to video specials. Plus more recently multiple smaller mini series on various Japanese streaming services. Add all that up, and you can understand why the f/x can sometimes be hit and miss. In the end for these shows it's all about character and story, and you can easily look past the sketchy f/x work. Taken out of context, a lot of this can look bad. Especially if the source footage already is kind of crap. I do appreciate your thoughts and reasoning though, and look forward to you maybe reacting to full scenes or episodes. Maybe even going back and seeing riders true henshin. Not the weird use of literally their first ever transformation which is almost always awkward. Keep up the good work and watch you next time.

Yeah I think some of the Riders need some checkout: BLACK doesn't have the "mutation to grasshopper" sequence, Shin only gets the end of the body horror scene, Agito has the "unseen" transformation ongoing, Ryuki doesn't have his usual one, Hibiki is also "unseen", Den-O doesn't show Momotaros taking possession of Ryotaro, and Zi-O have Geiz with him

yeah we all (kamen rider fans) know that toei couldnt make the cgi that as good as hollywood so we just dont care and be chill and watch cool stuffs(the henshin scenes and a good story in these series)

1:00:03 Ex-Aid's transformation there is kinda like Kabuto's tbh. That chunky suit is his Level 1 form, it isn't a mistake during his henshin. Also Ex-Aid's motif is based on games so...yeah that's basically it.

Yeah alot of Kamen riders will do a various arm movements before transforming

It's quite sad to see the videos that been reacted upon was not including all of their usual or even best transforming sequence, but still a good reaction overall. Keep up the good work👍
