Heiter stopped drinking the moment he started to take care of Fern. The montages of large proportion of time passing by stopped when Frieren started taking care of Fern. Such a perfect way to show how time perspective and people change when you start caring for someone else. Also the 2nd bottle spilled on Heiter's grave was the one he was holding when he met Fern. Show don't tell story telling of masterful proportion.

It's because it's not about the length of time, it's about its density ;) How much of it is packed with events that you care about. If you're just fooling around without reason, time flies by without you noticing, because there's not much happening in it. You don't have much to register with your awareness. You might as well just have slept through it all (which Frieren seems to be doing a lot, by the way).

So thats what the 2nd bottle was for !! i have rewatched the anime at least 3 times, and everytime i notice something weirdly specific there is always a reason(often cool af) for it whether it is a fight scene or normal SoL moments. i just couldnt figure out any cool/meaningful reason of why there was a 2md bottle lmao. thank you

This series made me cry multiple upon multiple times. The manga included. The manga STILL has enough content left to have another entire 28 episode season and its still an ongoing manga. Its so amazing.

Similar to Violet Evergarden, Frieren is a show about self-discovery and learning what it means to *live* as the protagonist builds new connections and learns new things. This has been my favorite anime recently and I’m so excited you’re experiencing it Shark!

Evan Call did the OST for both Frieren and Violet Evergarden and they are both amazing.

Literally just searched for Frieren to see if you'd reacted to it, 1 minute after you uploaded. Crazy.

As a manga reader, I can say Frieren will catch you by your heart strings. It's emotional, deep, funny and does a great job in delivering action scenes as well. Every little thing means something, and to see Frieren discovering how to enjoy her friends' presence is both sad and beautiful at the same time - because Himmel had a strong impact on her but she can't travel back in time to show him this new side of her. And for non-readers, next season will cover my two favorite arcs.

Oh yeah. You are in for a RIDE shark. I usually am not that big of a fan of the popular shows as most of them are overhyped. But MAN does Friren deliver everything the hype promised. I'm so looking forward to this

This is by far the best reaction/analysis of the show. You're always on point at all important stuff. The mastery of this show is in how well it tells two parallel stories filled with lots of relevant details, also of course the narrative, art, visuals, music, pacing are gorgeous. It actually wants to tell you a lot of advices and puzzles about life and time. Ready to see your analysis to the journey!

​@@angel_aeonI'll tell you why.. 90% of the isekai anime out there could just have been fantasy.. the MC dying usually is impactful only in the first one or two episodes.. they are isekai only because they wanted to ride the trend. Very rarely does the isekai aspect of it is made evident and impactful.

Probably one of my top favourite anime series and I've been watching off and on for nigh on two decades now. You won't regret a single minute you spent on this series. They've done spectacular work fleshing out the characters and world setting. After several years of generic "ha ha dense harem protag" isekai garbage, this has been like a breath of fresh air, reminding me why I fell in love with the medium to begin with.

@@varvariiin I know, but I tend to watch most fantasy related anime and the market was flooded with isekais a few years ago, most of them being not very good in my opinion. So seeing something fantasy that's actually very thoughtful, well-written and lovingly made is just making me very happy.

Kaguya and Frieren are both peak. Frieren of course needs no introduction. but Kaguya-sama is incredible in its own right, there is a reason that show is on the short list of a very few animes that have 9+ rating on MAL.

The series actually pronounces most German words really well, yet people watching it still seem to struggle to pick up on the pronunciation. Like with Flamme. It ends with a meh sound. But people seem to conveniently drop that when saying her name for whatever reason.

Pronouncing Flamme as "Flam" is the French pronunciation, which comes more naturally to English speakers since we stole a lot more words from there.

I've always found it weird when people mispronounce words they're literally listening to said aloud. Like, just say what they're saying, there's no need to try and figure it out yourself.

If you want to know the ages of Himmel and Hester, you will have to guess at their ages at the beginning of their journey, add 10 years for the journey itself, add 50 years for the return of the meteor shower and then 20 years for Frieren to meet Fern. If you want to know Ferns age then subtract 11 years from each mention of the time since Himmel death. In episode 3 Fern states that she is 16 years old and that is 27 years after Himmel’s death.

(My english is kinda bad so hope you get what i mean by this) the 9.36 score for an anime is just crazy (typically mangas get higher votes like 9.4, 9.2 but i have never seen anime reach the 9.2 mark. This one blew the limits ig.) . Like the one below frieren is fmab and it has 9.09. Just thinking about it makes me excited for this. Watching with you. Love your analyses. Btw i think why this is loved is because it has no negative sides. Music is beautiful, animation is mostly 2d with fluid that 2014-2016 style animation, story is cliche but has a twist which makes a perfect fusion together, characters are like the most favourited characters in a nutshell, everyone can take something from this even if you are 10 y.o. or 50 y.o. and the feeling of nostalgia hits soo hard that made me shed a tear just because of the extremity of it.

I have to say that you are not calculating Fern's age correctly. Every time they show how long it has been since Himmel has died, does not automatically mean another year has passed. Many times it will show the same year over and over. An easy way is to figure Fern's age is to subtract 11 years from Himmel's death. So she's around 17 in episode 4.

I would suggest taking a look at the subtitles for the opening as well! They are really interesting

Tanezaki Atsumi is an amazing VA, both Anya and Frieren, such an incredible job she did and Okamoto Nobuhiko who's Bakugo and Himmel's VA which is also unbelievably great

There's also "Delicious in Dungeon" ("Dungeon Meshi"), also worth watching :> BTW I'm surprised you didn't get to "Dr. Stone" yet. I've been recommending it for quite a while.

I use to watch your stuff all the time but just kinda fell off due to life. Watched Frieren recently and loved it so I feel like this’ll be a fresh start to get back into it.

Frieren is an awesome show! The pacing is perfect, the flashbacks never feel overused or disrupt the story, the action is amazing, the soundtrack is gorgeous (by the same person who did Violet Evergarden) and the emotions, story and characters are all perfect! Flamme is a reoccurring character, and we get to learn a lot more about her as the show goes on. The red head axe boy is in the next episode and he is wonderful.

I was not expecting Frieren. And holy moly what a pleasant surprise

The Series has a lot of German Words, either me or someone else can give you the Translations for them. For Ep1: Frieren = being cold / freezing Himmel = Sky/Heaven Eisen = Iron Heiter = cheerful or cheery Fern = translateble as far or remote Holy City of Strahl, Strahl - Beam/Ray Ewig - eternal/everlasting Ep3: Merkur - Mercury (the Planet) Größe - Size The Demons Name, Qual = Agony Ep4: Flamme = flame Voll = full

What I think is amazing about this show is just how confident they are in the story itself. Normally anime creators are so nervous about failing to hook the viewer in the first one or two episodes that they rush the story. I'm sure there was pressure from the bean counters to speed it along by trying to get to a big action scene or "gotcha" moment thought to be cool enough to peak a viewers interest. If so, I'm thankful that impulse was resisted. I don't know who it was that insisted on the 40 min first episode and the 4 episode initial drop but whomever it was knew what they were doing. I'd like to think it was the manga creator who best knew how they wanted their material presented to the world. If so, more creators should insist the same care be taken with their stories. I hope other studios take notice. When you get a project that is more of a slow burn, consider giving it similar treatment. When I think of how many truly good anime never got the attention they deserved because viewers either tuned out early due to a slow start or tuned out because they ruined it by rushing the story it's truly frustrating. This release tactic is genius. We are allowed a 40 mini-movie + 3 episodes, almost like a mini first season. Immediately afterwards we are gifted what feels like a whole 24 episode second season. I just discovered your channel and I truly enjoyed this reaction. I am looking forward to seeing your next reaction drop. I hope your commenter's are kind enough not to spoil anything for you. This is just season1. Season 2 will come after this (it will take two or threee years I suppose before it will be produced) and the manga (currently in the making) has material for at least a third one. You will mostly be blown away by the various characters, a damn whole lot of them.

I've never watched this before so this is just a guess but I'd assume Fern to be a similar character to Frieren. Every important character has a German word for a name so far. Frieren could be taken for to freeze but it's usually used as to be cold. A nod to her personality. If Fern is also German it could mean "distant". Basically Frieren as a Character is cold and Fern could be distant. (As in opposite of forming connection for both of them.)

Couple of comments are already saying it but dude youll love dungeon meshi (delicious in dungeon). They set up storytelling really well, and pretty much all the people reacting to it right now are really bad at analyzing a lot of the basic themes so it would be really exciting to see your take on it

Hello, English titlle, 'Beyond Journey's End', is good but Japanese title is 'Sou sou no Frieren', you can see in opening title in Japanese. First 'sou' in Kanji letter means 'funeral, barial' and second 'sou' is 'to send' , i.e., 'Frieren, sending off'er at the funeral'. There is another meaning that 'Frieren, sending'em into the grave', that is the slayer. Very good anime.
