    That would be the father manipulating his daughter, especially considering the "she had only been growing closer to Jonathan". She's a teen, she still thinks like a child, and whether she knew or not, it's pretty obvious the adult in this situation, who's also her FATHER, was and is manipulating her, but everyone is choosing to focus on the teenager screwing up

    @RavenSutcliffe it's not so much the father manipulating the daughter in as much as his side chick trying to be a friend instead of a mother. @@chadc5184 the whole "she (the daughter) has been getting closer to her father only recently"... Yeah that looks like he knew the affair was eventually going to blow up in his face and wanted to use the daughter/put her on his side. Especially since he had never particularly cared about her before, apparently. ETA: plus with this person saying that the daughter knew beforehand and helped the father hide it with ZERO evidence that had happened, I'm adding that if the situation was in fact like that then the father would have been manipulating her into keeping the secret or what have you. While it was still an affair the kid stood to gain nothing from the girlfriend

    It's a bit 2+3=4 there. I don't think that she should have automatically expected the daughter to take sides at all - especially given by her own admission she knew the daughter had been growing closer to her father in recent years, so expecting her to just take a side was wrong. But what the daughter did in response was at least as bad or worse. The college fund was not a given the same way parental love is - it's rather comical how many of these stories go to blows over money when it just displays the ones getting upset as mercenary personalities. Also the daughter still has the fathers half of the college find, unless he blew it on his affair.

And thr more I grow older the more I reqalize she was just a freeloader her whole life from gramps to stepdad and a negligent absent party goer mother. Some years ago she called to talk about her retiring into some rural area (with the help of gramps gift flat and daddy's funds) and assuming I was going to go there. I was like be careful with your life choices because noone will be out there to look for you and you'll be 400km away from the nearest hospital, plus you've never cared about your own health so it might be rough. Big silence and a thanks for the clear message I got. And I was out.

    Your daughter's boohoo party was nothing more than emotional manipulation. The proof is in the last thing she said which was asking for the college $$. I wonder if the dad really saved for daughter's college. Or he's spent all of it on his home wrecking w*o*e. She was promised a car, well where is it? Did I miss the part where she actually got it? Don't be surprised if your daughter starts begging to have her name put on the deed & asking about your will. Put up cameras in the house before you let her in. You might catch her searching your house for the will, mortgage, bank statements, etc. good luck

    The only time is condone it, having been a child who was constantly pulled back and forth in the pick a side tug of war, is when one parent is being especially nasty to another. It’s a bitterness that builds, like they wanted the divorce but didn’t ACTUALLY wanna deal with all that it entails. But it’s too late once you’re married. If both are that way, then quite frankly you may need to step back and decide for YOURSELF if either of your parents are healthy for you. There’s honestly too much to unpack the nuance and specifics of such a delicate topic, so that’s not gospel. You NEVER pick a side, you simply opt for the safe parent IF one is toxic. Rest assured when I say if you’re making these opinions of your parents anywhere between the age of 10-19, you’ll will change your mind later, but you’ll either realize you were actually being unappreciative, or you realize just how bad it truly was.

    There's a difference in a kid fittin when the parents never promised any college fund. Opposed to a kid that has been promised to have all or a portion of their college paid. In this situation Mia had been promised. She knew Dad had an account for her college. Mom had an account as well. Now her Dad promised her the car and apartment if she played nicey nice with his skank. He never considered that OP would pull her account away. By OP pulling her funds, that meant that he would have to pay the full amount, plus honor his promise. Or the daughter would have to get a job to make up Mom's part or student loans. I don't think he has the money to honor his promise without OP's money. Mia never dreamed that Mom wouldn't pay. With what she did, no she has no right to be fittin.

    Unpopular opinion: The mother exhibits significant emotional immaturity. Perhaps this is rooted in cultural differences. In my culture, pettiness is not celebrated, so it's perplexing to see the mother’s rash and spiteful actions being applauded. While I do not condone the daughter’s behavior, the mother’s conduct appears equally immature. Her insistence that the daughter take her side or harbor animosity towards her father is particularly troubling. Children should not be forced to choose sides in a divorce. Moreover, in my culture, parental responsibilities do not cease when a child turns 18; they continue, often until the child is married. The emphasis on individualism in Western societies is startling to me.

  • @mnomadvfx

    @mnomadvfx

    Or just don't support them financially. Parents already support their children financially for 18 years. 18 YEARS! After that IMHO anything else is entirely parental discretion and in no way entitled, unless it was dispensed by another member of their family and only held in trust by parents until their 18th birthday. My great gran left me some money for my college years, but my parents did nothing. In this case it's kinda warranted that the mother should choose to spend it herself given she has had the rug pulled out from under her fairly late in life to start saving anew for another house. The daughter still has her fathers half of a college fund and a car and an apartment - if she wants college so bad and the fathers half isn't enough she can sell the gifts she sided with her father for to the point of burning bridges with her mother. So ye - there's really no good parties here all round, but the least bad party is the mother. At least she's the one with a VERY good excuse to be acting a bit out of character and using previously earmarked saving to for buying a house.

    She could have been decent to the lady as well as her mother.. to stomp on your mom for a car is insanity.. her mom probably would have got her the car smh.. just foolishness.. she chose sides & would have had to stay there for a longgggg time if it were me.. but it’s not so
