BLENDER CHALLENGE 8: Modeling a Wagon Wheel (Part 14)

Музыка

This is Part 1 of modeling the wagon wheel but it is Part 14 of the Old Train Station series. You can watch Part 2 (texturing the wagon wheel) here:
• BLENDER CHALLENGE 8: W...
In this video, we will model a wagon wheel. In the next video, we will UV unwrap it and texture it (very simply) in Substance Painter. For those of you who don't have Substance Painter, I might do a video showing how you could texture it just in Blender.
This model will be used in my Old Train Station scene for Blender Challenge 8.

Looking great Z, it's nice to see someone who actually uses the weighted normals modifier, in my opinion one of the most essential modifiers that has been added recently, makes a huge difference, especially when using painter, but i hardly ever see anyone use it.

When I use spin or spin duplicates and then use those as a boolean to produce cutouts, only one of the items produces the cutouts and the rest are ignored. I don't understand.

Check that all faces are facing outwards, check that any extra vertices are merged and naybe apply all transformations. See if that helps.

@@zerobio Thanks. I got it to work by using the array modifier. I used to work with 3D studio max and this blender is like completely different. For example I'm looking down on a cylinder and I want to select the 2 vertices of one of the edges but it only selects the top one. I suppose the other one is "hidden" under the top one but it's still within my selection. I spent 10 minutes fiddling with the selection and in the end I have to select each vertex by hand because the selection box does not work.

@@zerobio yeah, i feel like 3ds max had a high learning curve but made more sense and blender is tailored towards beginners, like don't select a vertex you can't see etc. either way, it's free right?! haha. thanks for your help. "x-ray" mode allowed me to select vertices "hidden" behind other vertices but within my selection... pfft :D

@@dronefootage2778 Totally understand. I think if money was no object and I was starting again, I would use Maya or Max. But obviously Blender is fantastic as well. Thanks.

Ok now I know what it is. Similar to the wagon wheel, I guess. Thing is, there are many different version of it so, if you are really interested in this, email me at kimmelelliott@gmail.com and include a couple of images of exactly what you are looking for and I will see if I can make a video showing how to model it.
