5:35 I'd agree that Adobe has been slacking but I think it's unfair to lump blender in that category. blender has consistently innovated with every major release. Sometimes even to their detriment where they'll push for innovation even it it means leaving some of their audience behind such as the beginning of the cycles X change or their decision to not follow the VFX reference platform standards.

I think it won’t be long before A.I.’s reach human level intelligence. Where it would be very fascinating for us if they develop personalities and could be like some sort of superhumans but interconnected with all the information online. Just like the movie Her. The responses I get in Chat GPT make me even already smile sometimes because it’s fascinating and can be very clever. (More for nerds now though lol). But Chat GPT writes already better and faster story concepts/plots and then full stories based on them. Just wait 10 more years and he’ll beat Christopher Nolan in storytelling.

AI can be a useful tool, no question about that. Instead of sketching around you get the inspiration and then the designer/artist can push it further. BUT there are a few problems with AI when it is not used in the right way and for sure it won't...: 1. It feeds the mentality "I do not need to learn the technique. The machine will do it for me and it will be quick and easy." Yes we have keyboards but it is proven that people need to know how to write by hand first in order to develop their language skills. I happen to teach 2D/3D design for product design, specifically jewellery. Exactly because of this mentality there is no time given to the students to learn orthographic and isometric drawing with pencil and ruler because who does that nowadays professionally? No one. But how are you supposed get the machine to do what you want when you don't understand the views on the 3D program represent? 2. Exactly because the actual technique is not learnt, people tend to rely on the shortcuts of the program more and more and the designs get more and more boring. AI skips even the shortcuts, recycling information that is already out there and making something different but similar. Even if a few people push it and actually use AI as a tool and develop the results and produce something significant, they will be lost in the flood of generic AI generated imagery. We can kiss innovative art and design goodbye... 3. AI will be much much cheaper than paying a person. AI generated images/videos etc. will have no copyright, too. Shall we start counting how many huge companies will prefer those even if they may not be innovative or great in quality over paying a human? They don't care about the quality, only about the cost. And when all of them do it, it's not like the consumer will have a choice... It's good for the creative process to be accessible, but the learning of the technique should be accessible. Everybody can write a bunch of words in a box, it's no skill. It is not creativity and even if we count it as an idea it cannot be final acceptable product. It's like glorifying the scribble that every child does. It cannot work like that on a professional level.

I understand lots of people have this slight feeling of "impending doom" in regards to AI but I think an important point you made is embracing change, no matter how drastic it may be. These AI-based programs should be looked at as tools we use to our advantage rather than programs that pose a threat to replacing us. Cuz let's be real here, anyone and their mom can jump in a write a prompt/generate cool stuff, but it takes a real VFX artist to use and manipulate these tools the absolute fullest, beyond the threshold of the average joe's capabilities.

Since the government has already ruled that art created by AI can not be copy written, I think these programs will be fine. What company wants to risk something they paid for being used by other companies without any protections. Will AI be a tool? Yes, but it won't replace the artist because again the client would not own the final product.

Digital artists with the skill set are and will be learning more about the coding end of things and build AI systems that will be more specialized for what artists need. Most of it is done in Python. literally, we need to "learn to code", I'm not kidding. Currently programmers, who admittedly "can't draw a stick figure" are making these systems for artists. Most can't even think in more than 2 dimensions at one time. This needs to change, artists need to become more familiar and comfortable with code, and coders need to learn some art. Then the tools will best enhance our abilities.

Being an artist who enjoys using new tools when ever available and having used these AI for quite a bit, I would say that concept artists are probably the closest to having their jobs taken. Outside of that, AI still doesn't understand humans and how picky humans can and will be when it comes to their projects. AI is a tool nothing more, nothing less. AI can only know what it is fed so its still limited to a certain extent. I think what we will see moving forward is more of AI based tools instead of AI completely taking over an industry. I recommend if you are a concept artist, start using AI to your benefit instead of being mad at it. The cats out of the bag and wont go back in. use AI to get ahead of the curve instead of doing what many individuals and companies have done in the past. As a 3D artist there is to many moving parts in 3d art for AI to be used in any job threatening fashion. However for 3d artist this is the perfect time to start using AI to get ahead of your peers. The person who can master prompt Composition will be able to do their job a lot better then those around them giving that person way more opportunities.

    1. Ai is not even close to imitate a real artist, and its sad that some people think it is. sure if you want to generate a generic impressive imagery its fine.... I guess... but it lacks horribly the ability to problem solve, make something specific and generate unique paintings - in the way that a trained illustrator would. people are treating AI like it is sort of black magic, but in the end of the day it is just a tool, a pretty good and impressive one, but still a tool. 2. both adobe and blender are already utilizing AI. with photoshop Neural filters and AI voice corrector, and of course some blender plugins that are using AI for retopology, texture generation and so on. and it isn't even something new - both of them worked with AI before the whole AI art thing got popular.

How long until you’d paste someone’s brief and get it rendered.. Ai isn’t all that art directionable.. (yet) Doing architectural renders based on a technical drawing - that’s gonna be tough.. but also, as it is, people doing it for way cheap, no even worth going into it.. will see - I’m doing one right now, didn’t do any for years.. I do still enjoy adjusting light, adding stuff and looking at the feedback.. actually modelng stuff, moving around, addind vegetation.. etc vs writing in a prompt - this actually gives me some satisfaction.. Are you gonna teach a child to use prompts or just draw and express on a piece of paper.. Sure I’d like the repetitive boring stuff to be done away with AI.. .. art as a way of expression will never die out.. Commercial art.. Ok, I can find excuses for those (unless your prompt is “copy style of this artist” trying yout best to ripp off someone, all in the greyzone).. But doing some shitty low paying stuff - I wouldn’t mind the client doing it himself or doing it for them cheap and quick.. Reserve the fine stuff for - yourself? Or something better.. I like doing spaceships and rendering cool shaders, but I always just do the background as an afterthought (mostly), I might prefer ai helping me there - as I would probably google out for space pictures/walpapers and set it as background, I’d call that almost same, but less work.. instead of me googling do the AI.. What really is anoyying is people who never even tried doing anything art related defending ai art thinking they will become the new hot shit pocasso or something.. by writing in prompts like - do this while copying this guys style… and telling “this is the future fellow artists”.. yes but also not, even tho we have photographs replacing painters, people do still photoshop photos, crop, light it up, know composition, what works.. you still need to know the fundamentals to know how to work it - sure ai can regenerate those.. Ok, I just shot my own foot.. “AI please delete the internet” You still need to have some taste developed, and the fact that ai will left mimicking itself if no other input, art for the sake of expression will never die out, same as listening music and enjoying good art, it’s more enjoyable creating it on your own.. talking is a way of expression - we didn’t stop talking bcs of instant messaging

I love the positive outlook and encourage everyone to do the same. The best thing artists can do right now is to learn and understand AI as it is the future of not only our industry but all industry, and knowledge is our only weapon. A critical thing to understand here is that AI is not like going from pencil to tablet. Both of those things are tools, Thoe one is a much more effective tool, the most damage those new tools could do is reduce a 50-man team to 25 or less. That is what better tools do, allow professionals to do their jobs faster and easier sometimes so fast you need half the workforce. At the moment AI is just a tool due to limitations that are currently in its way, but its aim is not to make artists able to do their job faster, it's to make them not necessary, to replace them. AI's ultimate reason for existing is different, whether using a pencil or tablet you still need an artist, but AI is the artist and right now it may need you to finish the product but very soon it won't. Understanding this allows you to position yourself for that future and not be blindsided by it. I, a 3D artist in the industry with my job and livelihood on the line, am excited for AI because of what it can offer us and the amazing things that will come from it, but that does not mean I'm unprepared to protect myself against its negatives.

if you asked anyone 20 years ago this was all par for the course just nobody wanted to compile that type of database so now the tech to scrape information to build the database is around its fairly expected and exactly where it should be. it isnt that good and will replace the laziest and worst of artists

Actually Ai can indeed help us to make some boring stuff faster...like background removal in Photoshop. Removing a background is time consuming and nothing to do with creativity. We cannot fight the change but can adapt and see opportunities. It would have been pointless to tell people in the past to resist the replacement of steam engine...throughout history we have adapted, same goes for postman and many other jobs. Though there is loads of fast food right now, many of us still love to eat our mother’s food or at a nice classic restaurant. If you are a deisigner and you are freaking out, please do not....there is endless posibilities in this world. The brain is a magnificient mahine, The wright brothers believed that metal and wood could fly, the lumiere brothers believed can we could capture real life in a box...mainly because they didnt thought in terms of probabilities but because they were crazy enough to think it could work. Now softwares like Adobe will have to think well about their price, the more there is competition amongst them the more we will beneficiate.

Well the only grace i can see from AI is they aren't capable of generating videos yet. The moment they able to generate videos and fully animateable 3D models, we lose and corporate wins. Maybe tech really is developing too fast. We didn't realize this before because they havent seeped into our jobs, now that they do maybe its time to look for alternative jobs lest we be replaced

Depicting it as papa Smurf your spouse as having been deleted by you and sends it to the police saying you are about to do something terrible.

This is brutal underestimation of human greed for cheaper stuff. I dont want writing promts and make 200 times more work per day. I want draw, model, render myself. AI will delete many proffessions. And example with photography is out, because if you have DSLR or mobile, YOU have to go out and find and capture object. Totally different if ChatGPT write scenario and midjourney generate images. Your input will be imperceptible. And what is worse, it will be irrelevant if promt is made by veteran of industry or somebody random. AI is NOT tool. It will be selfsufficient. Its actually destroyng main pillars of every economy on the world.

A.I. is just another competitor or tool used by your competitors. As an artist if any of the former can do YOUR art better then you. You should really ask yourself are you really an artist or just a craftsman? Can someone tell your story or your point of view better? Is your imagination not more creative? That is what you should be worried about. If so you better dive in and figure it out.

I wonder how AI become so good and "creative" so suddenly... Maybe there are people stealing artists copyrighted material without their consent and traing AI models... It's not like I don't like the technology, I just wish companies were a little more transparent about how it's feeded (like they cared about the music industry copyright problems...) Then it wouldn't bring such a fuss about it :/ I'll keep learning and improving my craft, because it means way more than "generating pretty images" for me I don't think visual artists even needed to be "substituted", usually we take automatizations for boring stuff and as far as I know... creating art ain't boring! Maybe naming layers is... There _are_ problems suited for IAs, to speed up the workflow, but it's definitely not trying to replace the whole thing.

If you know Blender -- you can make better AI than anyone else - search how artists are taking Midjourney and Blender and totally killing it. 3. The use of stable diffusion in making textures inside of Blender using dream textures is mind blowing. 4. Photoshop is the tool of choice for working with the generated images.. On the contrary AI image people are unaware of the power stuff like the Unreal Engine
