Having two viewports, one for actually editing and one to preview the render from the camera perspective, is genius. I gotta use that.
Hey thanks for this! Lighting's such a huge part of photography and filmmaking, but most people never even think about it - and with Blender simulating the real world you really need to know how that stuff works. Even tutorials tend to focus on the modelling and texturing, and skip over the "how to make it look nice in a render" part, so the more info out there the better!

You have a great production style. With that I mean your animation, renderings and of course your YT videos. It's really fun to follow them. Thank you.

Do you have any lighting courses specifically for eevee? I have a low end system so I can’t render in cycles and I can’t seem to achieve good lighting in eevee. Thanks in advance!
With how quickly this guy's scene is refreshing... his computer has gotta be NASA-tier.
Useful information here. Thanks a ton for doing this video. I've got to study this thoroughly as my lighting is haphazardly :)

Just a quick note. Cycles is a Path tracer along with most production renderers now days. Ray tracing is a slightly less accurate way of calculating light used in realtime applications
Great video, thank you!

I've been working in trying to undertand how closed scenes are built, rn I have a completely closed off hallway and no mater how many spots and lights I use the enders always come out dark blue, I've tried to change the size and the power but it really doesn't work :( idk what to do
I love this! Do you have any course on light/texturing? I NEED IT! :D Subscribed!

I've got a problem: I made a short film and when I render it, than than I'm in the material viewpot mode and not in the render mode. How can I return that?🤔 Did anyone got this problem too? 😶 Thanks for help! 🙂😐
is portal still an option in 2.93? I'm not seeing that option in the area light.

They sometimes remove features when you're using that far ahead during bug fixing
11:46 Finally, a tutorial that understands underlying demands. Honestly, loved the vid tho.
i am so confused of blender lighting i added lights and stuff but the render is just completely dark :l

I already did
My light doesnt work, I only see power, specular, radius, and costum distance in light no nodes, nothing
You mentioned a book called Painting with Light. Who is the author?
If anybody is reading this you have to be in cycles otherwise you won't see portals😀
Sorry to nag, especially on a video that you made a year ago, but I have no idea what you're talking about. I get the feeling that the audience for this is people who have already played around with blender enough to know a few things. I'm at the level where I see the different types of lights, I try to do exactly what you do and go "What are these lines on the screen? What button combination do I use to get to the screen thingy? Why do I always get nothing but a yellow or blue blank screen when I try to copy you???" Ps. Don't take this too seriously, I'm just having a hard time finding videos that explain things on my current level. The geometry stuff is easy for me, but lighting in blender requires me to know what da-hek the tools even are for lighting. This video is great for people who know those tools, but if you can find me something that shows what blender's lighting tools are, I'd really appreciate it.
I love how the thumbnail has so little to do with the actual content.
what happened to lumalee?!
Came for basic lights. Got out with the equivalent of 5 year long study.
Great video love it but i don't know why but i don't finde the key for the portal thing ://

you can use nodes on lights....interesting

Any other laptop users who could cook an egg on their laptop?
sorry to tell you but you start with a scene that is already fully set up for the sun light to work like it did on that cake scene... this has nothing to do with "lighting for beginners".
Voce fala muito rapido e aperta os botões tambem rapido e a gente não entende nada.
h3h3 podcast
This is not lighting for beginners, cause u already have isntalled the lights. Beginners dont know how to set up them in place.
this is not a blender lighting for beginners in tutorial. You dont go through any of the interface and how to get started. Should be titled lighting concept for beginners.
this beginner can't find the lighting icon
my light skill is trash 😂

Huh?
Your technique and explanation is partly contradictory and contains confusing and wrong informations. The Portal Function makes rendering longer but saves sample times.
