Blender 3D: FLIP versus APIC fluid Simulation

Ойын-сауық

#blender #flip #apic
In this video I do a comparison between FLIP and APIC simulation resolvers. The only thing changed between scenes is the resolver used the rest is the same.
Looking at the results I prefer the water movement of APIC as it seems to conserve the momentum more than FLIP. On the other hand, I prefer the white water of FLIP.
Let me know what you think in the comments.

I found FLIP is better with splashes. Although in this situation APIC looks somehow better

It seems to depend on your scene and what look you're after, but it's cool what you can do at home now.

Apic forms sort of a Vortrx pivot point while Flip fluids trys and mimics realism

Both look good really. Wasn’t that long ago this would have been unheard of from a home machine.

Flip Fluids is now my all time favorite thing to do in Blender. I'm not at all a professional, I'm just doing this stuff as a hobby and you've made me feel like I can actually made the ideas I have in my head a possibility.

I’m the same. Just do this as a hobby. Gets very addictive though. ;). Amazing what you can do with blender.

Oh i though it wasn't possible as I didn't got any motion vectors to apply in compositer. I guess i need to check again

@@adityachandranart - Make sure “use speed vectors” is enabled and use “uni cache” for format volume. In view layer make sure that “vector” is enabled which will send it through to the compositor.

but in this one u used the default blender fluid engine right? simulation mode: Flip or Apic, no flipfluids needed...

Look good. I think you could use a little less of foam particles to make it more real.

how did u add motion blur on apic sim? is it done in other software with post process or in blender?

For this one, I used the vector blur node in composition.

I was wondering - how did you make static infill of the container in the beginning of simulation? When you started simulation the water didn’t settle down, it stayed as it was.

Sorry, I'm not 100% sure on what you mean. The fluid object was created from a cube and then I used a boolean to cut out the paddle. Doing that stopped it exploding.

Look in the particle tab of the domain. You should see liquid, foam, bubble and spray. Select one and it’ll tell you how many particles are in that frame.

That’s the subjective part. Both look good, but which is more real. I prefer parts of both. If we could get something in the middle of these two then it would be awesome.

    @mattbeddis

    3 ай бұрын

I think it's more subjective to the individual. Some would argue that APIC looks better whereas others would prefer FLIP. To me it looks like they're both awesome for different reasons and it all depends on the scene you're adding a simulation too.

  • @mattbeddis

No, it’s part of the built in fluid sim. There’s a drop down box within the domain settings where you can pick FLIP or APIC.
