Blender 2.92 New Sculpting Features : Trim Tools

Blender 2.92 has a new feature_ Trim tools for sculpting. I was really looking forward to this feature this is the first experimental implementation and it looks quite promising.
I also compare to 3d Coat (Cut Off tools) and ZBrush (Clip brushes, Curves), but it's not a real comparision, becasue it is an alpha version and the other tools have this feature for years - but I just wanted to point out that a lot of work is still to do:-)

    If you don't want to cut the upper part of the mesh with Line Project, you can use "Limit to segment" in the tool options in the N menu.

    If you choose the Join mode for LassoTrim or Box Trim, you can create a new mesh, but I have not found how to adjust the depth of the extrusion of a new mesh of these tools. Maybe you can tell me that ).

    Hi! I really enjoyed your great tutorial, but when I tried to use the knowledge, I got stuck with an error. After using the loop trim tool on an area of my object, I tried to use it again, but when I did that, it seems as if the tool worked in inverse, deleting the majority of my object and leaving only the area I was trying to delete. Can you please help me how to solve this issue?

    Hi Jayanam, thank you for all those excellent videos. I would like to ask you do you believe that in near future Blender will come close to 3d Coat for hard surface design? I understand that 3d Coat is voxel based, and for rapid prototyping, cutting hard surfaces, splitting... I find it unmatchable for now, but I must admit that Pablo sometimes looks like magician, so maybe he can find some replacement for voxels.

  • @JayAnAm

    Well, I dont know it exactly but I think he is creating a voxel based mesh system under the hood - it's hard to say if it will be that fast some day, I I think so.

  • 3 жыл бұрын

    @@JayAnAm Well.Not really true, ZBrush is a huge program it can do a lot. But I agree blender does a great job nowadays. However when it comes to dealing with super high poly counts ZBrush is easily unmatched.

    Honestly I just really hate the artifacts that using voxel remesher produces. It became more beareable with the recent fix but you still lose a lot of detail when constantly remeshing the whole mesh

    I try it for couple of minutes and it Blender it is definitely too slow to have fun with. I was very happy about trim but...it’s not usable now. And as it is in new version released it is not experimental i guess

  • @DirkTeucher

    @DirkTeucher

    Yeah the box trim tool has not worked with the multi res modifier since 2.91 which is unfortunate. Over to zbrush it is or I just use a boolean and do it manually.

  • @blendertutorialdotnet
    @blendertutorialdotnet3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, this stuff in Blender is just a joke. I guess they just use the already existing boolean functions which won't be enought for the desired performance.

    developers must understand one thing.. that they cant put all the things together in one pack with good performances... blender is awesome tool for modeling … little texturing and few sculpting jobs in hand . most of the users don't have high-performance machine for Multi-Res Modifier and high SUBDV.. miss 2.79 modeling tips dude ... they must have improve the 2.79 as solid version . all the changes likes Ui Tolls and etc. must have been add to the 2.79 wit same structure and UI .. Imagine Photoshop about 20 years and maybe more ... same structure and changes apply to solid software ... if you look at CC ! and adobe PS 5.5 ... you see what i mean ...
