BleepinJeep Jon and The Spool Bus - What Happened?
If you followed the 'Spool Bus' (or 'short bus' as it was referred to as briefly) build on @bleepinjeep then you probably wondered what the heck happened to Jon (me) and the bright yellow diesel powered XJ. Well, this video isn't about why I left the channel, but I transitioned into my own channel and I've been here ever since! The bus has been on the road and trail since long before I left the other channel and we adventure on and continue stages of the build as time goes on. Check out this in-depth look at the Spool Bus, a TDI powered Jeep Cherokee XJ build!

Dude you inspired me to start a tdi build on my 86. We’ve had a few interactions on comment section and you’ve helped a ton. I’ve got everything prepped besides locating a donor. I have a playlist of all the spool bud videos 😂

Your XJ is what inspired me to find a 99 and wrench on it. My son loves that Jeep. Thanks man for getting me wrenching again and subsequently draining my allowance. SPOL!

Thank you! I’m thinking an upcoming video should be a really honest review of the swap, and the pros and cons because I’ve learned a lot since doing this. I’d absolutely do it again and would like to swap other vehicles in the future. But that doesn’t mean it makes sense for everyone
I live in Wilson,PA. My oldest son lives in NC, and has just finished his TDI swap on his XJ with an AW4. He already has one in a CJ7. My youngest son has a TDI in the basement for a swap in a 2000 XJ.

Price point ? For all the custom engine mods fig those pockets must have been pretty deep

It's not a cheap swap, but in my experience there is no such thing as a truly cheap swap! There are certainly ways you could figure out to do it cheaper with more time but initially with the stock turbo I had about $5500 into it. After changing the turbo, injectors, and tune again and adding some things like ARP head studs and the AirDog lift pump. it was closer to $7000 total.
I remember that build
Hey Jon, can you link the cup holder insert. That is sweet! I love this build.

Thanks so much! Bryant who made the cup holder insert is working on getting an Etsy store set up to sell them. I'll add a link here and on Instagram when that's ready! If you want to DM me on Instagram I can give you his email address too. IG is @dirtroadtherapyjon
did you mention engine mounts? (I might've missed it) - are using the TDI mounts, the Jeep mounts, or something else?

1:39 can you elaborate a little here, are you moving away from the TDI - or modifying the TDI?

I don’t feel the need to make a video to draw attention to that subject. The story is the same as with Nate, Tim, Tyler, Pat, and any other previous contributors to that channel. I have no hard feelings about the split even though it was not my choice to leave. But that’s all I’m going to get into here. And the bottom line really is that multiple contributors to one channel doesn’t work well long term because it divides your audience. People come to a channel to see a particular creator so basically each creator is building their audience and that’s just how YT works. I think it’s incredibly rare that you could have mismatched creators spread apart geographically and have it work. Look at the channels that have multiple characters, which are not really trying to each be creators and maybe some episodes focus more on different ones each time but ultimately they’re all collaborating in the same geographic space. Matt and Colt do a lot more together in the same video now and I think it works better, but there’s still a divide in the audience because you have a lot of videos of them each separately in their own geographical regions too
