    Good instructional video on this man..... I'll be doing both my zoom and nutts brakes in the coming weeks. One tip id give is when you remove the cup off the brake lever and before you at the srew back in the final time, adjust the brake lever tension screw till you see oil come up to the top of the oil screw hole, then put the screw back in (a little messy, but makes sure no air gets in the system)

The EZmtb bleed kit had the needed adapters for the zoom brakes. Let me know if you are still having trouble finding it. here is another link I found www.amazon.de/-/en/Bicycle-Mountain-Hyaraulic-Bleeding-Mineral/dp/B08D922KYF/ or for CA e.g. www.amazon.ca/Professional-Universal-Hydraulic-Bicycle-Mineral/dp/B07FYFDNSY/ you will find more if you search for EZmtb bleed kit. • @Lantea13

    Afaik, it means that you have some air trapped in the brake lines. If you bleed the brakes and get the air bubbles out it should solve the spongy brake problem.

    Hello there!. It’s a very nice video on how to bleed the zoom breaks. But i have some questions because im planning to bleed my scooter: 1. Ill be using a red shimano and you’re using a transparent one. How would i know if i flushed out the old oil? 2. What do you do with the leftover oil you used after you bleed your breaks? Do you discard them or you put it back on the new oil container ? I hope you can help me with this.. it’s my first time in doing it and i don’t want to screw my breaks. 🙏🙏🙏

  • @Lantea13

    @Lantea13

    I also used red shimano during my second brake bleed, it works fine. To flush out the old oil unscrew the bottom plug and to release the oil unscrew the top plug and let it drain out. It does not have to be 100%. Collect the old oil in a separate container and throw it out. Dont reuse the old oil.

  • @Lantea13

    @Lantea13

    2 жыл бұрын

    I don't think so. You can adjust the spacing of the brake lever with the tiny screw (imgur.com/a/pLNUNSU) but that won't really improve the braking. You can also try a top bleed. You take out the reservoir screw on the brake lever, put in the yellow funnel (with a bit of hose and a hose clamp), put some oil into it and press the brake lever several times until all air bubbles come out, then secure the hose clamp and remove the funnel with the remaining oil, and screw back the reservoir screw. A top bleed can help a bit, if you don't want to do the full bleed; but if your brakes are very bad you really should do a full bleed as in the video, as the top bleed is of limited help if you have a ton of air in the brake lines. If you have any questions about the full process in the video, feel free to ask, and I will try to help where I can. If you really don't feel like doing it yourself, any competent bike shop service should be able to bleed the brakes for you, as they are basically the same as on bicycles.

    At the end of the vidrio, when testing no rubbing in the pads on the rotor, your tire seemes to wobble. Is this normal?

  • @Lantea13

    @Lantea13

    Жыл бұрын

    Not sure if its normal, but it is common on stock tyres that are not manufactured perfectly and are not balanced. You can try to balance the wheel with weights (kzread.info/dash/bejne/rIeu1NZ6d8vJZpM.html), or if you get a high quality tyre such as PMT it should not wobble if seated correctly. Cheap chinese tyres will wobble as they are not perfectly balanced.

  • @Lantea13

    On hydraulic brakes there is no way to loosen the brake pad squeeze on the brake disc, that is adjusted automatically as the brake pads wear down; you only need to center them on the brake disc properly. The heat from the brake disc should have no impact on the temperature of your motor.

    When I received my Varla Eagle One I had no brakes! The levers pulled all the way to the handlebars. I was pissed to say the least. I had Sram and Shimano bleed kits for my mountain bikes but their fittings didn't fit the master cylinder port of the Zooms. I was desperate to try my new ride out so I took out the bleed screws at the master cylinders and just kept the hole filled with the Shimano mineral oil enough to not allow air down in the plunger and flicked the levers enough to burp but not puke out fluid. After only a dozen or so flicks per side I had full lever on both brakes. I couldn't believe how easy it was! And I was off! - to see how many times I could almost kill myself on a scooter with shitty handling that does 40mph! At least the breaks work great!

    Could you possibly tell me what the exact model of hydraulic brakes is on the Apollo? I'm looking for aftermarket hydraulic brakes & it's one of the most complex items I've ever tried to find. I've got a '22 Apollo with regular brakes (very big mistake not getting the one with hydraulic brakes) & so far, "Zoom" is all I can get out of anyone. I know it's 140mm discs, top-mount calipers, both on the right side of the wheels. It's impossible trying to find out what people who speak Chinese mean by "right side" - sometimes it's handlebars, sometimes it's calipers.

    The ZOOM brake model number should be HB-875-E. Here are all the details I could find when I was trying to repair my ZOOM brakes imgur.com/a/07yk16h But I would strongly advise you to get the NUTT hydraulic brakes instead of the ZOOM brakes. The ZOOM brakes on my Ghost (VDM-10) started leaking at the caliper and there was no way to repair them. I decided to upgrade to NUTT hydraulic brakes and so far they are way better. I bought a set on aliexpress for around $110 (US). The seller I bough from no longer sells them, but if you search for "NUTT Hydraulic Disc Brake Set" you will find plenty of sellers, then just find a listing that clearly indicates the correct brake caliper orientation (on the Ghost both are on the right side), you can always also confirm with the seller over chat before you order (just an example aliexpress . com/item/1005005202156542.html no idea if this seller is good, you need to do some research on it and compare with other sellers). Hope this helps.

    I had the same problem, no seller can even tell me who manufacturers the zoom brakes, or provide a manual to them. The ZOOM brakes use mineral oil, Not DOT fluid, do not use any DOT fluid or you can damage the seals. There is no manual to the zoom brakes and no bike or scooter shop sells zoom oil (at least where I am), so your best option is to just buy any brand mineral oil that can be used in bicycle brakes. The original oil in my zoom brakes had red colour so the closest to it is the Shimano mineral oil, I got a different one because that was the only one they had at my local bike shop at the time.

    I have not encountered this issue, but it could be due to the rubber o-ring in the piston being damaged. If the leak is big you could try taking apart the caliper to see what is broken inside and ask a local bike repair shop if they have a spare part that would work. The problem with zoom brakes is that there are no spare parts, manuals, or guides available anywhere for them, so you will most likely need to replace the whole caliper if there is a leak.

    As long as its miniral oil for bicycle hydraulic brakes it should be fine. If you are switching to a different brand oil its generally recomended to empty the old oil and fill with the new one. If a little bit stays in it should be fine.

    @@Lantea13 thank you for coming back to me. Do you by any chance know what the size of the tiny washer is? The prev bike shop that bleeded it for me. Never puted the one washer back. When i did the bleeding myself over the weekend i saw that one the one side the tiny wahser is gone. And i did tell them to be aware of it. But they have no pride in their work it seems.

    Hi, the scooter came with the zoom hydraulic brakes already installed. If you have the version with mechanical breaks its possible to upgrade to hydraulic brakes. You can check out this post www.reddit.com/r/ElectricScooters/comments/rq0nn2/ghost_mechanical_to_full_hydraulic_nutt_brake/ where a user upgraded to NUTT brakes.

    Is the red Shimano mineral oil also suitable?

  • @Lantea13

    @Lantea13

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, that should work fine. I used it myself when I needed to bleed the brakes again. In theory any mineral oil for bicycle brakes should work. If you are switching between different oil brands its best to drain all the old oil out first, before filling the system with the new mineral oil. The original oil in my Zoom Brakes had red colour similar to the Shimano mineral oil.

  • @henninghellerud

    The red Shimano mineral-oil is (according to label) compatibel with all mineral oils, and will work on any system that uses mineral oil. I would however do as Lantea here writes and first drain old oil if you are changing brand and/or if the old oil has not been changed for several years. Another suggestion is to use the mineral oil that is easiest available to you.

    In that case I am not sure what size o-rings it uses, I only had to deal with both my calipers leaking, but in the end I was not able to fix them even with new orings and just replaced the whole zoom brakes with nutt hydraulic brakes. Maybe someone else has experience with the brake levers, if not, you might just have to try and disassemble them and see what orings or other parts are faulty. The main problem with zoom brakes is that there is no service manual or any other manual or documentation available from anyone about the brakes; and the only advice I got from the seller was to replace the whole brakes when they leak...

    I am not sure. These were the stock brakes on the VDM-10 scooter. There is no model number on them that I could see. They are the same I have seen on many other electric scooters, such as Vsett, Dualtron, Zero, etc. I tried to get a manual for the brakes, but the manufacturer of the scooter as well as several sellers I asked all said there is no manual or more detailed information on the Zoom Brakes.

    Fail 15:53, Should never reuse a lower grade Chinese knockoff brake caliper cotter pin, and Always replace said pin with premium grade cotter pins. Said reused pin will eventually fail & loosing or back out when your failing to brake while failing to beat a train at a train crossing and that will be the end of you in a instant, cheap life with a cheaper unsafe result.

    Well, it held up for 12+ months and through several more brake bleeds, until I replaced the whole brakes with NUTT ones because of the constant oil leaks on the zoom brakes.
