I’m dark skinned and was having a conversation with another dark skinned older woman. She was talking about another dark skinned woman and said, “and she had the nerve to be dark and conceited.” I stopped her dead in her tracks and asked her what she meant. She was my new manager and I had to go their with her. How I told her being conceited was not reserved for light and white women. And just because she’s confident doesn’t mean she’s conceited, nor should she have to feel insecure because she dark skinned. I was 22 at the time and had to school a woman in her 40s.

    1. To call someone conceited is not a compliment. To have confidence is healthy and something to be proud of. That dark skinned woman has every right to be confident within herself. It sounds like your boss was jealous of her. 2. This is so very disheartening and I hate "you're pretty for a dark skinned girl " or "you can't be dark skinned and confident". This is never under any circumstances ok for anyone to say to any dark skinned woman. 3. WE MUST FIGHT against colorism and anyone who uses derogatory terms about dark skinned black women.. AND lighter skinned black women MUST fight and correct when colorism is happening. It's 2021, I am so tired of the disgusting colorism issues!!!! Enough is enough 😔

The truth is pretty can’t exist without ugly and vice versa. For someone to find something exceptional they must find other things unexceptional. That’s just nature. All that too say OG at least to me isn’t exceptional or pretty. She’s average. She’s better looking than I for sure though. But that doesn’t mean anything. I had this conversation with my aunt, who is a known colorist so I already knew where this was headed when she said "so what do you think about this OG and Evelyn thing. First thing out of her mouth was "OG is just jealous of Evelyn ...she's mad that she's ugly". Before I said my opinion, I had to ask her "What's ugly about her (OG)?" and of course, just like any colorist, they can't tell you what they see as ugly. So I just ended the conversation with "you think she's ugly but can't tell me what's ugly and knowing you for as long as I have, I've come to notice that many of the people you call ugly tend to be of a darker skin tone so I'd rather have this conversation with someone who isn't both colorist and prejudice against their own" I say all this to say, most of the time you can identify a colorist by their "preferences". If a darker toned woman can never be called pretty etc. by them, that's a very strong tell.

People really feel like only people who they find attractive in their eyes should have a high self esteem and that’s the problem.

She had the audacity to say, OG still dresses like she is in Africa and needs to assimilate to fit in with the other ladies on the show. She proceeded to talk about the few times OG's stomach was slightly bloated on the show, calling her out of shape and continues to believe the colorism, featurism, and favoritism doesn't exist in the group. She also tried to say that no one is following OG. I discussed everything to a tee (showed examples of unfair treatment on the show, showed the receipts OG dropped every week that exposed production trying to create a false narrative about OG, and the numerous followers and video views OG had). In the words of Eloho "It don't move". She refused to acknowledge anything no matter how much truth I placed in front of her. The whole conversation exasperated me. They try so much to downplay that OG didn’t face colorism and try to compare her to Jen, Kirsten, and Jackie. Now we all know damn well Jackie is a damn colorist herself. She treated her dark skinned daughter Takari like shit & she exposed her for it. Also, they have like Eurocentric features and she doesn’t. They always trying to say that she shares the same skin tone as the other dark skinned girls. Like FOH. That show is colorist as fuck!! Although Royce was dark skinned, they tried to punk her because she was little. That’s why Royce was my favorite on that show. She played no games with those colorist ass women. FYI, OG, & Royce are the only two dark skinned women who never got to fighting but the rest of them did (I.e., Evilyn, and Tammy, and Malaysia).

Darker black men experience colorism as well, but a lot of them make jokes or think it’s a “compliment”. Somehow darker is equated to more masculine and stronger and especially when it’s applied to women, it’s horrible

@Raihanna If you are only looking at it in the lens of sexual desirability, then you might be right. But colorism cuts through so many sectors of life. Darker skinned men are found to get longer jail sentences, harsher punishments in schools, less likely to get jobs etc. So yes it affects men as well.

The stuff they’re doing this season based on reviews and og’s receipts is they are trying to make her the villain. I want her to win this fight but she can’t do it alone. Evilynn called cece “ling ling” no one stood up for her until the fans demanded an apology. Evilynn is in fact a racist bigot. You called me godzilla, monkey , ugly.etc... you had a year to talk to me about this yet never took the opportunity to do until the cameras are on . Kristen: No❤️ in my opinion I’ve never experienced colorism in this group so it doesn’t exist. And I’m just gonna keep asking you the same dumb ass question ms because I have 0 critical and comprehension skills.
