Curious about what a blastocyst is and how blastocyst transfer works?
A blastocyst is an advanced stage of an embryo that typically forms around five to six days after fertilization. It comprises about 200-300 cells and has a distinct structure with an inner cell mass that will develop into the fetus and an outer layer of cells, called the trophectoderm, that will form the placenta.
Advantages of Blastocyst Transfer:
Higher Implantation Rates: Blastocysts have a higher potential for implantation in the uterus compared to earlier-stage embryos.
Reduced Multiple Pregnancies: By transferring a single blastocyst, the likelihood of multiple pregnancies is minimized while maintaining high success rates.
Better Embryo Selection: Culturing embryos to the blastocyst stage allows for better selection of the healthiest embryos.
