    Hi Agnese, Champagne Tarlant made a pure Meunier, I was fortunate to be given three of the first 60 bottles they made way back in the late 1990's, at that time it was made from 50 year old vines and was amazing. Their current offering is simply superb and well worth searching out. Champagne Aubry make a champagne with the other permitted grape varieties including Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Arbanne, and Petit Meslier, a wonderful wine.

    Francis Orban makes a couple of wines with menuire, an extra brut, and a Rose, both delicious. I love Dosnon, and was lucky to have visited them, that was the most amazing tasting ever. They treated us like rock stars. Also in the Aube is, Pillot, they make a fantastic wine 100% Pinot Blanc. Love your videos.

    Yes to your question. When there's Champagne involved the mood goes up, so too in the presenter it seems. The cameraman was also having a whale of a time by the looks of it 😅 I was hoping for a miracle and that Chartogne-Taillet would be in the selection in my market, but of course it wasn't. It'd be sold out for sure if it was. I suggest we can take this opportunity to consider the phenomenon we call "holy grail reviews" in the cigar world. There might be a similar term in the wine world, I don't know. It means that in praxis, when someone reviews something rare, they are essentially reviewing something that is largely irrelevant to the public because so few can realistically share in the experience. I have no idea how rare Chartogne-Taillet actually is, so it might not necessarily be applicable here just because I can't get it. I'm just using it as an example to bring up an interesting point in the interaction between presenters on the inside of an industry, communicating to the people on the outside. You will concede that scoring something that almost no one can get is an exercise in futility. Thanks Agnese (and cameraman). Hope I didn't step on any toes.

    Hey, thank You for the comment. I completely agree with You and understand what You mean. When discussing wine investment - people will say that wine must be rare. But it shouldn’t be too rare, as it will not be able to get the world wide recognition. Saying that I don’t think that Chartogne-Taillet is that rare though. I am aware, that there should be wines that are available to people. 🫡

    Hi Agnes, personally I love A blanc de noir Champagne..but is just me. I love a lot cava's too...without Chardonnay. But..I tried a 100% Verdicchio brut riserva from Garofoli (42 month on yeasts) and for me is a hell of bubbles for that price. Super clip as usual..thanks for sharing. Cheers

    A more scientific characterization of the specificities of an amazing blanc de noirs is that since the more fragant and light terpenes are inside the grape this type of wine is a good chance to taste geraniol and linalool in a grape variety typically producing red wines, which are usually crushed by the intensity of Rotundone (which is present in their skin).

    For Meunier, Moussé Fils, L’Or d’Eugène Perpetuelle Blanc de Noir was the first sole Meunier wine I ever had, super yummy!

    Plantings in Champagne: Chardonnay 31 %, Pinot Noir 38 %, Meunier 31 % = 100 % -> 0 % plantings left for the 5 other grape varieties that are allowed Great video nevertheless

    I rounded up, really. And the other grapes constitute less than 1% (below 0.5% even) of all the plantings in Champagne. Otherwise, I would have to do decimals, and that is when You really should be specific. 🫡 I hope You did enjoy it anyway

    @@NoSedimentI understand and I did enjoy the video (as always). Now I know that less than one percent of the plantings in Champagne are made out by the other five allowed grape varieties. Due to your video I got interersted in Champagne made from 100 Meuinier. Here in Sweden I can't get hold of the one you tasted. But today I found and bought 2 bottles of Laurent Lequart - Prestige Pur Meunier Extra Brut (NV) for approximately €50 per bottle.

    Great video! I try to get 100% meuniers whenever I can because I so rarely see them here in North America. I’ve been told they don’t age as well, but the few I’ve tried have a sort of cheesy character I love.

    There are some who argue that it ages quicker, but I do think that it has to do more with the producer rather than solely on grape alone. And I have tasted some great Meunier. 🙏🏻

    I found a major disagreement between us at last, how shocking! 😂 I /do/ consider Chardonnay a "neutral" grape variety: It does not bring pronounced flavors itself, yet it's capable of transporting the elevage in a remarkable way.

    I completely understand what You mean, it is neutral, as it not showing pronounced aromas or flavours (like Sauvignon Blanc or Gewurztraminer). What I meant is that - despite this You take a Chardonnay wine that has not been aged in oak and yet, it still tells You it is Chardonnay.     @@NoSediment I see. Yes Chardonnay is generally not considered an "aromatic varietal" the way SB or GT for example are. However, depending on how the winemaker interprets it, it happens not too rarely that I can't tell Chardonnay from its siblings such as Pinot Blanc or Auxerrois, especially in a blind tasting. I have yet to encounter a Riesling that doesn't identify as such, and in SB it's extremely rare (but try a 20yo Gérard Boulay! 😎). Cheers! 🍾🥂

    I love your videos! A couple of questions: Can a Blanc de Blancs or Blanc de Noirs contain different varieties of white or black grapes in the same blend, as long as they are the same color grape? In other words, could a Champagnes labeled Blanc de Blanc contain both Chardonnay and Voltis grapes in the same bottle? It's confusing because I see people write "Blanc de Noir can only contain Pinot Noir OR Meunier" (meaning only one)... or "Blanc de Blanc can only contain Chardonnay." Also, I think I have seen on a Blanc de Noir label something like "Pinot Noir, Meunier dosage" ... does that mean that the dosage liquid was from Meunier, but only 100% Pinot Noir was used during second fermentation? Thanks : )

    Hey! 🙌 So blanc de noir - means white from the black, and in this case grapes must be dark skinned. So Meunier and Pinot Noir theoretically could be in that blend. Blanc de Blancs - means white from the white, so it must be from white skinned grapes. Either Chardonnay or Pinot Blanc for example. About the dosage - I am not sure, I have never seen a label like this, but I am guessing that it (dosage liquid) can be made from a different grapes than the wine itself. 😅

    I don't care much about Champagne, I consider Krug the best of the big ones but being Italian I worry about drinking serious "bubbles" at home. In this case, considering that Chardonnay makes me run to the bathroom because it is so feminine and fashionable (I hate it), I vote for Pinot Noir so I enjoy the so-called Blanc de Noirs from Oltrepò Pavese, the only champenoise method without Chardonnay but only excellent Pinot Noir. In the other three Italian areas renowned for sparkling wines: Trento and Franciacorta (Champenoise) always mostly use that terrible grape variety and in the Veneto area (Charmat) they insist on that rubbish called Prosecco (Glera grape variety).
