    It just doesn't sound good in general, at least not with the new stock pickups. I don't know why anyone would decide to put those in their guitars.

    Guys, I worked for CEGB for 18yrs through 70s-90s and on our Power station we had big station P.A systems that ran on KT 88 and 66 'valves and ecc83 pre amp valves with other bits of high quality electronics , they up-graded to solid-state in the late 80s and the stores managers had ALL the valves in stock SMASHED!! boxes of perfect top-grade valves, this happened across the uk grid system , Total Bastards . ( rescued a few for my own amp) .

    Why are people always complaining about Rob using a Chapman Guitar? It's his own damn guitar brand! If he wasn't using them, everybody would go "Oh he's not even using his own brand of guitars, they must be quiet shit then..". I don't own one but from what I hear, Chapmans seem to be very good guitars, especially for the price. Let him play what he likes best, god dammit. Keep rocking Rob! And congrats on the baby, Lee :)

    I'd like to offer a counter-opinion based on my experience - mine was like a guitar's corpse. I sold it and now it's some other poor sod's problem. Anyway, even if I didn't hate the brand, I can relate to people wondering why the guitar being used is one that almost no-one watching will have. It's a gear demo, using something more familiar like a strat, LP or super-strat style when testing an amp would allow the greatest number of people to relate to how they might be able to make it sound.

  • @Ovoran

    @Ovoran

    6 жыл бұрын

    I don't get this argument at all. First, you hate(!) a brand based on the experience of one bad apple? Didn't you test it beforehand? Even if you order one and it's bad, with most retailers you can send it back and get another one. EVERY brand has bad apples sometimes. Hell, I played a 6000€ CS LP once and to me, it didn't sound as open and lively as a 600€ knockoff I tried shortly before, and a Standard afterwards. Just my experience. I own a ML-3 Traditional of the old line and it's the best guitar in my collection right now, I play it definitely the most. It sings and is alive and for me, it's the best Tele I've yet played (and I ordered it without testing :D)! Chapmans are basically that: Strats, Teles and LP versions in a price range most of the viewers shop in, I assume anyway, but better quality than most other brands in that range. My experience. And then, if you think you can learn from videos like this, how YOU can make the amp sound, then you're delusional anyway. At best, you get an idea how the amp sounds in general, its basic tones. And then you can determine, if you're interested in trying it out to see if it's the right thing for you. Lee is actually playing a strat, but I would never assume to sound anything like that, since I do not own a Fender Custom Shop Strat and a mexican made Strat or some cheap Squier is never going to sound like that... tl;dr: I don't care what they play in these videos, every guitar and player sounds different anyway. I like the tones they demonstrated here and I'm going to check out the amps and try them out to find out if one of them is for me

  • @TheOriginalCFA1979

    Yup, these videos are to make you decide whether you want to plug into one on your next music store outing, not choose your next piece of gear. Besides that, go to the Fender KZread channel and tell me how many Gibson guitars you can find in videos, I guarentee you'll find more non-Chapman guitars on Rob's and the Anderton's channels. Rob would have to be a complete and utter moron not to take advantage of these videos to promote his brand.

    Don’t give up on the Artisan with single coils Lee! Once you get it dialed in it sounds fantastic with a Strat with vintage pickups. I have a 50’s Road worn with pure vintage 59’s and I get really buttery smooth tone on the neck pup. Very Jimi Hendrix Wind Cries Mary type tone. But yeah it’s also a beast with my PRS SE hollow body with Pearly Gates. The Strat tones are my favorite through it though. Such a great blues amp.

    First of all, congrats to the dad in the room! Secondly, I can't believe it's been 10 years of Blackstar already. At the same time, though, it feels as though they've been around forever. They've truly made a massive impact in a relatively small time period, as far as gear brands go. I've been using their pedals since the beginning, with an HT-Dual and a Roland Cube 60 forming my go-to rig in my late teens when I first started touring. Now, the LT-Drive is my OD of choice - by quite a margin. I've also been using their amps whenever I need to rent an amp. I should really grab one of my own. These little guys sound ace!

    Hey, could you do a strat comparison between mexican standard, classic player series and american special,(possibly even USA standard,) since those are quite close in the price range and i think it would be quite helpful.(-since the player strat has better hardware than an amreican special, but are there any pros to the special not including the made in USA stamp?

    Sounds like it'd be interesting to get the Series One next to a Fender Bassbreaker. There are some great choices at £500 just now

    That's where I am at. Bassbreaker15 combo owner looking at either the Series One EL34 or 10th anniversary KT88 for roughly what I paid for the Bassbreaker.

    KT88 Valves were used in Marshall Majors 200w. The Majors were basically 1959 Plexis but because of the Bigger Valves and different circuitries - the power doubled. Ritchie Blackmore used them from 1968 until 1993 which was when he left Deep Purple. During the early days, He had his Amps modded by the factory to give him nearly 280 watts of power. This was because he wanted them to sound like an AC30 on steroids. Another notable user of The Major was Stevie Ray Vaughan, who would use it with a Fender Twin.

    Pretty sure that'll be solid state? Wattage with SS doesn't equate to tube watts. I think the ultimate iteration of the Fender Bassman also hit 400w. John Chambers built a 400w stereo amp, 2 channels each with 4 KT88s pushing 200w a side, supposedly a 600w (2 x 300w) version also got built. He also did a ONE THOUSAND WATT monster (1015w RMS) using four 813 valves, which make KT88s look like LEDs in comparison... www.chambonino.com/construct/const9.html

    Blackstar please make a head version of the Series One!!! Maybe with a separate gain for clean and overdrive instead of a built in reverb if you can't just add it but that's all I would add!

    got the blackstar artist - trading in for the artisan because I want to :) - black start artist is like a blues jr on steroids - better gain stage, but in the vein of the blues jr....since there are soo many blues jr type clones, I'm going back for the artisan el34 - that said, it does sound great if you want that f-erish type of tone with some more meat (I think like Andy Timmons kinda Electric Gypsy tone - pedals needed of course)....
