Blacksmithing : Hand Forging Dragon Head Key Chain

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I am sharing the process of hand forging dragon key chains, using traditional methods of blacksmithing, side draft forge and stone coal.
A piece of metal I used is a square bar 14x14mm. The most part of forging is actually sculpting the head in blacksmith vise. Sorry for a bit shaky image, need some restabilization of my vise!
Blacksmithing techniques: drawing, hot punching, sculpting, To forge these dragon heads I used a rounding hammer for moving the metal and a bunch of hot punches and chisels for face details.
The tools are: anvil, rounding hammer, hot chisels and punches, blacksmith's tongs, blacksmith's vise, drill, wire brush, rasp for finishing. No power hammer needed for this project.
Hope that this video could be helpful for blacksmith enthusiasts as well as for craft loving community or just any person interested in how metal craft is made! If you are inspired to forge such type of key chains, please let us know about your results!
Winter is having the best time at Sun Hills, changing its mood every hour: mist, sun, snow storm!
We hope you will find out something new about blacksmithing and enjoy your visit to our small countryside workshop!
It is great to hear that our videos seem to have calming and relaxing effect! =) We really like the original sounds of our smithy, so we use a microphone RØDE for sound recording. So all the sounds in our videos are recorded in our workshop and around it. Relaxing sounds and calming yet organized atmosphere are inevitable parts of what we hope our videos should feel like.
If you like the video, please, let us know by leaving a like - your kind support is always so motivating!

Thank you so much! Yes, I made the punches myself That's what I love about blacksmithing - you can make your own tools, just experiment with different sorts of steel from your scrap yard!

@@SunHillForge Thanks for your reply. Perhaps you could make a video or two on how you made the tools used for the dragon head ! It would be difficult to re-create without the eye punch ! Thanks
