    Thanks for the video. Another way to straighten out hangers like your lantern hanger is to get it hot and use the vise to straighten it. I find that faster and more reliable than my eye and the anvil.

    Great couple of projects! The point you made about the uniqueness of the forged hanger was very insightful, and I'll make sure to keep that in mind when I'm making things to sell.

    Love it! I've been smithing now maybe 5 months, give or take. I'm at the stage where, let's say, I have too too many blades around ... Ha. Like 30 various swords, knives, axes, exotics and such. I gotta grow out of it a bit. And like most other smiths out there, I Wana become independent from the day job one day. Keep the projects coming. I'm gonna try and replicate as much as I see and yeah, level up some more. 🍻⚔️🍻

    I have no idea how those work pieces hold heat so long. Mine go dark 30 seconds out of the forge I could get so much work done if they held heat like that.

    I've heard many blacksmiths on youtube say that cameras pickup the light from hot metal differently. So things typically look hotter than they really are and stay that red for longer as well.

  • @Kurokubi

    @Kurokubi

    There are a lot of factors that can cause metal to lose heat. Things likhow much of the metal is touching the anvil and transferring the heat into it as a result, how cold the anvil is when you started forging, the air temp (to a lesser degree) how far away the anvil is from the forge itself, how long it takes you to start actually working the metal once you remove it from the fire/stop the airflow to the fire, how windy it is or how bright it is (of you're going by the colour of the metal. The light will make it seem like the metal cools faster than it does.) And even the type of material the anvil is made of.

    Also how hot the metal is in the first place when you decide to take it out of the fire

    @@sabastiondowns8684 Slowly , slowly, gently , gently, you start with a few simple items and just add few every few weeks, don’t expect to be a millionaire in your first year. Also don’t start with high priced items like Damascus knives, just stick to small, easy nails and hooks , home wear stuff, campfire cooking, things that are affordable until you gain customers. Word will spread if you provide quality and things flow from there!
