Blackmagic Production Camera in Brooklyn (4k upload)
Комедия
I got to spend an afternoon shooting with the Black Magic Production Camera. My time was limited so I included some shots that I normally would omit but seeing as though this is more test footage I figured more is more :-) Hope you enjoy!
Shot with Black Magic Production Camera with a Redrock Micro Shoulder Rig + Matte Box
Lenses:
Canon 24-105 f4
Sigma 24-70 f2.8 (on the boat)
Ungraded (except for graffiti, and tourists taking photo shots)
Music: The xx - Intro
Special thanks to :
Joe Bonacci and David Eber

That was just amazing. I was expecting a normal footage review and suddenly I found myself laughing out loud. Its rare to get such a surprise like this on KZread. Many thanks!
New york always looks so amazing on film
I find it hilarious that he just casually films nature then cuts to a homicide and back to nature like its nothing

Yeah, why does this guy upload such footage (instead of showing it the police)?
I love how pleasant the shaky handheld parts are to watch - the magic of global shutter. Great footage and a nice twist.
calm down guys, the suspect is under arrest
This 3 minute short is so awesome....I literally watch this everyday, As well as your other stuff keep up the good work.

Yeah I'm surprised no one else has really played around with expectations in these types of "first footage from ___" vids before. You should still do it when you get yours! Thanks for commenting + hope you don't have to wait much longer for your camera Brad Walter!
Amazing video i love how you hold the camera with your hands it gives the video a more lively feeling.
I just watched this on my 40 inch 4k Tv (Samsung). Looks really good, very filmic. I have been watching 4k videos for various cameras ( GH4, Sony A7S, Bmpcc 4k ,etc). In my opinion and eyes, this one looks filmic . I was getting disappointed and thinking that 4k was just to much, but this video is good. The other cameras that produce 4k are awesome too, but I was just searching for something more related to movie (film) 35mm, etc.., the stuff we have been used to seeing for the last 40 plus years.

thanks Adam Stansfield! Everything shot up to 2:54 was using a Canon 24-105 f/4. After that I needed to get more light so I switched to a Sigma 24-70 f/2.8
Is it difficult to not clip the higlights? Lots of over exposed pieces in the shot.
Hey great video! How are you liking the Blackmagic Production Camera so far? I am debating to sell my 5D Mark iii and switching for it so I don't have to use Magic Lantern to achieve the quality i want.
Awesome footage, how do you like the combo of the bmcc and the 24-105. In terms of lens sharnpess, etc.? Thanks
@EdmondHawkins

the bmpc and 24-105 were a good combo for daytime shooting. I'd check with someone else on sharpness as i'm not normally a camera op but I enjoyed the look it gave. 70-200 2.8 would've been my preferred lens over the 24-105 f4 if were to buy either.
what is the sound backgroud called?

Hey, great video thanks for sharing! I'm considering this camera as my next investment, but worried about low-light and sensor issues and the pocket seems like a safer option. How does the production camera perform nowadays? Does it still suffer from black holes and the likes? Also, I really like the last shot in particular. It seems the low-light isn't so terrible, what were your settings for that shot and what time of day & year roughly would that have been recorded? I don't like the sensitivity of some DSLRs the images feel artificial sometimes.. Thanks!

Stephen Walsh Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video! I haven't installed the latest update but I'm pretty sure it still suffers from the black hole sun. I shot in late February and that last shot in particular was just as the sun had set. I shot 2.8 on my sigma 24-70 but i can't remember if it was 400 or 800, I would rent the camera first though- personally I am looking for other option when i shoot lowlight or investing in seriously fast glass to compensate. Hope this helps!

Edmond Hawkins thanks that's some great insight. You're right, I should get a hold of one before I decide. I've only used the pocket before, but I really like the image from it. On paper it also seems to be better in low light especially with a speedbooster. I'd miss the global shutter though and even though I'm not too pushed about 4k, I fear that producers and directors will want it and will go to DPs with 4k cameras which are getting cheaper. Anyway thanks again for the advice, I'll keep researching..

Stephen Walsh I absolutely hate rolling shutter so for that reason alone I love the freedom I have when shooting with this camera. I wish the camera shot 2k pro res because I'm w you, 4k is excessive unless ur shooting vfx. The AJA Cion is more expensive but seems to hit all the marks (slowmo and 2k) but possibly not great on low light either tho.
Hi, did you shoot in format film or video? Full hd or 4k? Thanks a lot. Regards.

+JKP Music Appreciate the kind words! I recently graded a couple of these shots for my reel (using premiere) and it made me wish i had done it sooner. You can't take individual stills with the bmc4k but If you shoot 4k you can pull stills from the footage and they hold up very well.. here's a still from a lightning sunset I captured with the same camera: instagram.com/p/p-RHLEi-nl/

Edmond Hawkins Anton bauer is life saver! Well, I will travel to States right after I see that BMPC on stocks. The footage looks super fine. Thanks for the answer.
Nice footage. You should really put a disclaimer at the end or in the description about the homicide scene. Didn't fool me but there are dummies in the world that it would fool.
@EdmondHawkins

Thanks Christopher Mayer! The only thing keeping me from putting up a disclaimer is the hope that said person one day runs into either the "gunman" or the "murder victim" on the street

What did you think of the low light noise? The clips I have seen around the web, doesnt look to impressive but curious of your thoughts. Thank you. And really cool shooting scene, I wasnt expecting it.
@EdmondHawkins
10 жыл бұрын
Thanks DarkMysteriousObject! I'm no colorist but I was disappointed with how quickly the noise surfaced and the image became unusable when I tried to push the grade. The night shots at the end were shot on iso 800 (ungraded) which gets the job done, but I dont think I'd use this as my go to camera for shooting scenes at night if I had options.

Edmond Hawkins Try Canon 85 or 50 1.2. These lenses help a lot in the low light. Have tried them in Munich city and I actually liked the results at 400 ISO

Thank you Edmund. I was hoping this camera would have done the job but think I may have to go back and foot the bill for a RED. Thanx for your honest assessment. And yes the 85MM does do a good job in low light
@EdmondHawkins
10 жыл бұрын
DarkMysteriousObject Well I'd say rent the BMPC before ya go and buy a RED. Also I was pushing the grade in pro res. Once RAW becomes available it might be a better story/situation.
this is great could you please explain how you achieved such great quality? camera settings , lens? exporting settings? i'm willing to pay to learn

I didn't do much to be honest! Shot in film mode with a 180 degree shutter @ 24fps and primarily used a canon 24-105 lens with ND filters on it so I could shoot wide open at f4. Hope this helps!
