A lot of people don't know this but Ricky Medlocke was an original member of Skynyrd. . . . I was playing in a bar band during high school in 78-79 when Blackfoot was in town playing a venue in Charleston SC. . . after their show the band shows up at the Flying Dutchman where we were playing, (I was a drummer at the time) , Ricky was watching us stage left. . . came out on stage. . . took Monty Johnson's (our guitar player at the time) Les Paul and jammed with us on two songs. . . Incredible night! Afterwards we got fucked up with Blackfoot! Right on!

That's why, even after Gary Rossington's passing, I'm not quite ready to throw in the towel and give up the current Skynyrd lineup and call them a "tribute band". Not while Ricky's there

Been listenin' to Blackfoot since 1979 and these guys are keeping the music going strong. Love it. Sounds great.
I saw Blackfoot and Molly Hatchet in Greenville, S.C. I do not remember the year but do remember that it was one of the best concerts that I ever attended. Rickey Medlocke was untouchable as a performer and guitar player. We all get older and I appreciate the fact that this man continues to show whole new audiences what REAL MUSIC is. The crap that is called music today is total crap as far as I am concerned. For ANYBODY that whines, bawls, or complains about anything concerning this man I would say look at what he has accomplished, and then look at yourself in the mirror and state what you have done with your life. You are one of my heroes Mr. Medlocke and you are truly loved and appreciated by anyone that knows what MUSIC IS!!!!!

Saw Ricky the other day in Home Depot. Just an average guy buying paint. Played with the greatest southern rock bands ever and all you losers can do is criticize. Who cares about his bank account, or that he has new band members. Both him and others have given us great songs to listen to and enjoy. And he's still out there with all that grey hair playing. My ass would be retired in Costa Rica. Why don't you all go get a real career, become half as famous or do 1/10th of what he has, then comment.

When I was young this song was released and played on FM stations--it was one of the songs you couldn't play loud enough, especially on nighttime road trips--it literally gave me energy just by listening to it...
Rickey still got it going on, sounding better than ever

RICKEY MEDLOCKE IS AN AMAZING MUSICIAN. LISTENING TO HIM SINCE MID 70'S.
Great to see Rickey and Blackfoot back. One of my favorite bands of the 70's and beyond.
Ricky is one of the most underrated great rock n rollers of our time. He made Blackfoot and kept it alive even after playing so many years with Lynyrd Skynrd. He has not forgotten his roots and Highway Song is one of the greatest jams of all times!! Thanks Ricky and Blackfoot, may you never be forgotten and may your music rock on for ages!!!
To this day Highway Song gives me goosebumps when I hear it. It’s not just the music, but the memories that it brings back. What I was doing at the time, (1979) who I was in love with then, the close friends at the time, and the close calls with death, (I’m amazed that I’m still here) and learning to play the guitar. I’ve seen the original Blackfoot 3 times, and loved it every time. Twice was in a smaller venue where I was literally 5 feet away. I handed my mixed drink to the bass player Greg T Walker, who gladly took it. LOL.. The 1st time was right around the time that the Strikes album came out, and it was Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet, and the Outlaws in Greensboro NC at the coliseum. I plugged in one of my guitars today and played Highway Song after seeing this. I’m 60 years old now and Ricky is 9 years older than me. He used to be a heavy drinker as was I at the time. We have both gotten sober later in life, but he used to start his shows by breaking the seal on a fifth of Wild Turkey 101. H e would then say “This ain’t none of that 80 proof $h!t” and would proceed to drink the entire bottle by the end of the show, straight out of the bottle. Man I thought that was cool! He could out drink me and still play good!

Two great songs, with such meaningful and moving lyrics. Back to back, just wonderful. When Strikes was released, I purchased ASAP, listened to it so many times, and sang along. And the joys of LS! Happy memories!

I saw Blackfoot and Molly Hatchet in Greenville, SC one night. Ricky Medlocke OWNED the stage doing this song. He made this lead look easy and if you know anything about guitars, it is not. He is one of the greatest guitar players who ever lived and never got the acclaim that he deserved. God bless you and yours Rickey.
Amazing he still has it! Keep it going we all need to be supportive to all
I seen Blackfoot, Mother's Finest, and ACDC. . I love Southern Rock. Sing it baby. Highway Song. It's ALABAMA . Old road, green fields, skunk, and loud rock. Love you Born 63' I'm 59 you can't take the rock out of a country girl.
Awesome ! Rickey sounds great !
R.I.P. TO ALL OF THOSE WHO ARE IN ROCK AND ROLL HEAVEN, RICKEY, THANKS FOR HOLDING ON TO THE MUSIC AND PLAYING YOUR HEART OUT EVERY NIGHT.. YOU ROCK MAN, YOU LET ME TOUCH YOUR GUITAR IN RENO NEVADA WHILE YOU WERE PLAYING FREEBIRD, IN 2004 AT THE HILTON, TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW I HAD A TABLE THAT ALMOST TOUCHED THE STAGE, ME AND MY SON BOUGHT A 30TH ANNIVERSARY SKYNYRD GUITAR THAT NIGHT WHEN WE WERE BACKSTAGE WITH YOU AND SKYNYRD, BUT YOU CAME OVER TO OUR TABLE AND LET ME TOUCH YOUR GUITAR DURING FREEBIRD, THAT MADE MY LIFE MAN, I EVEN SAT NEXT TO YOU AND BILLY PLAYING SLOTS. I WILL NEVER FORGET THOSE TWO DAYS, ROCK ON , COUSIN FIGEL
Does not get any better than this!
Watching from Greece.hi everybody. Legends never dies. They were my teenage idols.
Ricky Medlocke & the Band is awesome, nothing like a true Native man rocking it out.
Ricky is a great guitar player and he still cuts a fine slim figure! Rock on, Ricky Medlocke!

i heard this song on the radio today so came on here to look up some live footage. My long standing memory of Blackfoot is from 1982 when they played the Reading festival in England. The headliners were Iron Maiden and at the end of the night Rickey and the lads joined Maiden on stage for a version of ZZ Top's Tush for the encore. will never forget that night.
This is the 5th time today I've rewatched this ,man this is amazing, man it sounds like old skynyrd
These guys should write their own songs and get their own band and continue doing blackfoot type music. I would go see them, they are good musos.
AMAZING BAND.......Highway Song is a great tune
I got to see Blackfoot play at the Colorado Springs civic auditorium circa 79, maybe 80. My memory isn't what it was.. What I DO remember was they rocked that place!! Def Leppard was the opening act and Blackfoot's 4th encore was Highway Song.
Got the privilege to see them and Molly Hatchet at a bike rally in Texas around 2005. All I can say is WOW!
Southern Rock ala mode. One of my top 50 songs of a 66 year life. Rock on.

Oh Mr. Ricky Medlocke you rock! That band is outstanding!
Ricky is indeed legendary
I am impressed !!! Looking foward to the new cd......
Medlocke was always a superb guitarist, singer and general frontman. I'd love the original Blackfoot to reform and tour for old times sake and recapture that rawness from the late 70's/early 80's.

I saw Blackfoot for the first time opening for AC/DC in '79, and when I saw them again opening for Molly Hatchet, Rickey announced to the audience that Bon Scott had passed away
This was a great show. Niagara Falls NY. Small venue, not a bad seat in the house!
I grew up cruising the streets and a mean machine when all this came about I missed that car and it brings back so many memories of so many friends that aren't here anymore may they rest in peace I love them all !! , I remember the cars bumper to bumper to bumper to bumper all you seen is tail lights and headlights from miles on and it was kind of like American graffiti good days!
