I love my BlackBerry Z30, my daughters love their Z10/Q5, and we're ready to upgrade that Z10 to Classic. Blackberry is not dead and this book doesn't serve as a headstone. John Chen and his team is doing great things and I see Blackberry coming back strong, perhaps not as a consumer toy, but as a reliable, durable, safe business device. I will ALWAYS choose a BlackBerry as long as it remains true to its roots.

I've been a BlackBerry user since 2010 and still use a BlackBerry to this day. My first BlackBerry was the Torch 9800 but I switched to the Z10 in March 2013 and now, I use the Z30. A few years ago, I used to get weird looks when I told people that I have a BlackBerry as my smartphone of choice but people seemed to understand when I told them that all that mattered to me was that my BlackBerry did everything that I needed it to do (emails, web browsing, photography). I'm still fine with using a BlackBerry as my smartphone of choice even though it's not the popular choice.

BlackBerry continues to develop outstanding hardware that utilizes far more capable and efficient software than the competition. They've been so far ahead of the game that people have lost site of them and consider them out of touch. One of my favorite devices they made was the second version of the BlackBerry Storm. It was an all touchscreen device that you physically pressed on the screen. It recognized a tap vs a push. That was called SurePress technology. It significantly reduced the amount of typos that one would see on a regular touchscreen like the iPhone. Now in more recent times, Apple has implemented something called "Force Touch" which they've used in their Apple Watch that recognizes when you're pushing down harder on the screen to initiate various commands and gestures. They plan on using this in their next renditions of the iPhones. It may not work exactly the same way as SurePress, but rest assured, the similarities are overwhelming. Apple is known for taking existing technology and concepts and claiming innovation when utilized in their own products. At some point, it has to stop, right? Think again. Apple has recently filed a patent that attempts to merge all touch gestures and actions onto a physical keyboard. It's not innovation. It's technology that is being used on this BlackBerry Passport that I'm typing with this very moment. Will BlackBerry act? Could they afford a long dragged out battle in court? The answer? Probably not, but they've got to try. If they don't, it may very well be the end of their smartphone division by technology they actually created.

Getting my first blackberry was one of the most happiest Day of my life. I still remember opening up the box to my Curve 3G. I love my iPhone, but damn was that keyboard smooth.

Blackberry Passport, best phone in the market. Difficult to turn things around though given the proliferation of apps.

I jumped from the Nokia dumb phones to the Samsung Galaxy S3. Tired of the crappy physical interface, I equated any Blackberry product to that old, disgusting interface. Fast forward to now, I'm perfectly comfortable with the touchscreen for a smartphone. Blackberry is dead... Long live the touchscreen!!! End of micro speech. Lol!
