Tasmania's convicts were no worse than those sent to Sydney or Western Australia. The standard convict sentence was 7 years, with some individuals getting 10, 14 years or 21 years (Life), but the vast majority only served 7 years. During the time of the Black War in the 1830s in Tasmania (then known as Van Diemen's Land), the convicts operated under what was known as the Assignment System. The vast majority of the convicts were assigned to an 'employer' and worked for that employer with both rules and some freedoms. The more hardened criminals, and those who reoffended or absconded, were sent to Port Arthur or Sarah Island prisons which were brutal. But the vast majority of the assigned convicts never experienced Port Arthur or Sarah Island's harsh conditions. Convicts were placed in the difficult situation of being assigned to farms in the interior where the Aboriginal populations were strongest and fighting the colonisers with guerilla warfare, and the convicts were having to defend themselves and the properties they were assigned to. It's my understanding that Tasmanian convicts were the only ones ever armed by their colonisers, in order that they could protect themselves from assault from the Aborigines and from attacks on food sources as you mentioned. The period of the Black Line and the Black Wars is a dark and tragic period in Tasmania's history. While government policies were bad, the impact of disease was huge and is often underestimated in the analysis of this period. An important point: yes, genocide was attempted and came very close to success. However, the Tasmanian Aboriginal population continues to grow and thrive. In the last census in 2021, 30,000 Tasmanians identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander origin. They are a proud people and they are still here.

@carokat1111 Maria Island was also a convict settlement. My GGG grandfather was sent there 1828-1832 after arriving from UK. He 'worked' at the cloth factory there along with up to 700 other convicts. Norfolk Island was a convict settlement on 3 separate occasions, the 1st being from ~1789 -1811. It was also a place of secondary punishment for convicts sent from both NSW & Van Diemen's Land. (Tasmania)

Are you saying you are proud that your ancestors participated in the massacring and forced removal of Aboriginal people, and you feel they we justified to do so because you haven’t enjoyed the time you’ve spent with Aboriginal people? Is that what you are saying? Do you think that if a people are in your eyes “culturally backward” then killing them en masse is something to be proud of? Heaven help you if so. If that’s your attitude, then it’s shockingly similar to the attitude the Nazis had to the Jews or the Ottomans/Turks had to the Armenians or the Hutus to the Tutsis.

In Australia, which is a big place, I never hear of anyone finding Inginous artifacts, It's confusing to me too, the only artifacts Australia has is rock paints, no one ever finds any Boomagangs or spears, by being wood over time thier never wouldn't of lasted. Google Tasmanian Inginous Artifacts, and look at the spear heads thier found in a river bed.

In the USA it looks like the English made the mistake of not claiming enough land, and look what happen, knew it was better to claim the East Coast from start, which was already claim by Spain as you said. And you didn't say anything about Frances claim of New Holland, but France be-headed it's Queen and King so we will never know. So the English claimed the lot. I forgot Canada, if England wasn't in Canada it would now be part of the USA has well. That boarder got drawn quickly and easily. Expects say that the ingenious population in the 1900 in Australia had no more then 120,000 and only been increasing since, and estimate that the population in 1770 was 770,000 and 85percent were killed in the eighteen hundreds by Virus and Mass killings which is just a lied. Sending to many male convicts comparted to Female at the start in Australia was a mistake. Australia's population in 1900 was 3.8 million and we sail around the country not drive thought the center. Australia need a boarder but the Ingenious didn't know about USA land claiming.

The English had the Zulu Wars in South Africa, which was also around the time of the first Boar War, but I don't really understand what the Zulu war was about. The Zulu's won the first war when the English were charged by the Zulu's when the English were armed with Smooth Muzzle Muskets. In the next battle the English brought with them a Gatling Guns and the Zulu charged and never saw seen anything like a Gatling Gun before. Wikipedia say 6000 Zulu killed and 2000 English killed by it wasn't anywhere near a genocide because the Zulu Kingdom had a population of 250,000. Was the war about Diamonds or did the English feel threaten by the Zulu Army and the English had stamp the authority. Still a Dick Move by the English.

The arrogance and ignorance of the Americans is aggravating, isn't it. I'm an Australian, and a Truth Teller. This video is a Terrible misrepresentation of the Black Wars in Tasmania, indeed. You shouldn't approach this video, as history in the typical sense. Treat it as an interesting speculative video with some historical information thrown in. There's an intelligent video to be made about the Black Wars in Tasmania and Tasmania's traditional culture, and this isn't it. The British invaded Australia and Tasmania, not Europeans. The British were at war with the Europeans and the United States. And that's why the British invaded Australia, and sent their convicts to Australia. Because they could no longer ship them to the United States, which was a terrible thing to do to your citizens. The American wars of Independence (1763-1849). A time when French controlled the land and the British controlled the Ocean. 13 May 1787, was the British First Fleet that arrived in Australia. 11 British ships. Lord Sandwich, together with the President of the Royal Society, Sir Joseph Banks, the eminent scientist who had accompanied Lieutenant James Cook on his 1770 voyage, was advocating establishment of a British colony in Botany Bay, New South Wales. Banks accepted an offer of assistance from the American Loyalist James Matra in July 1783. Under Banks's guidance, he rapidly produced "A Proposal for Establishing a Settlement in New South Wales" (24 August 1783), with a fully developed set of reasons for a colony composed of American Loyalists, Chinese and South Sea Islanders (but not convicts). The decision to establish a colony in Australia was made by Thomas Townshend, Lord Sydney, Secretary of State for the Home Office. This was taken for two reasons: the ending of transportation of criminals to America following the American Revolution, as well as the need for a base in the Pacific to counter French expansion. In September 1786, Captain Arthur Phillip was appointed Commodore of the fleet, which came to be known as the First Fleet, which was to transport the convicts and soldiers to establish a colony at Botany Bay. Upon arrival there, Phillip was to assume the powers of Captain General and Governor in Chief of the new colony. A subsidiary colony was to be founded on Norfolk Island, as recommended by Sir John Call and Sir George Young, to take advantage for naval purposes of that island's native flax (harakeke) and timber. The cost to Britain of outfitting and dispatching the Fleet was £84,000 (about £9.6 million, or $19.6 million as of 2015). Plus: The United States was built on Treason. Wars against the British Empire. War against American brothers, fathers, mothers, sisters, and cousins. Plus: Australia never had wars like the American Revolution and African slave's and Civil Wars. And wars against Mexicans and American Indian Wars [ etc ]. In a memoir : European authorities - described British as 'a people of the most savage ferocity, their crime of the deepest dye' and as evincing 'a sad and pitiful inferiority to the European mind'. Plus: In regards to the early British invasion of Tasmania. There were also American convicts sent to Tasmania and the Australian mainland. And in the American Penal colonies, the convicts were treated just as awful as the convicts in Tasmania. It is pretty short sighted to not recognise that?🤔 In 2023. Americans still believe that they are free settlers, Pilgrims?😆😅🤣😂 The American Thanksgiving holiday commemorates a tragedy. Yeah, a horrible thing the American white people did to the Native Americans, indeed. But, Britons sent their convict problems to the American Penal colonies way before Australia. For much longer period. And many many more convicts were sent to the United States. The first Poms in America were English speaking boat people and Irish and Scottish convicts' criminals, and 10 year old children, rejects from Britain, not Pilgrims. So yeah, the United States of America was a British Penal colony like Australia. Talk about living in a propaganda age and oppression, indeed. “America, the most propagandised of all nations” So yeah, the British make Hitler look like a cub scout. Plus: If Americans are so patriotic than why are they speaking English.😆😅🤣😂

What about the genocide/ethnic cleansing of the Australian pigmies by Tasmanian Aboriginals who were prevalent throughout Tasmania after being largely forced to live in Tasmania after being slaughtered by Aboriginals throughout Australia. Not only is there archeological evidence, but there are also written records from Chinese sailors who witnessed this in around 400AD and by Dutch sailors. On top of this, there are written records, even news articles within national archives, of aboriginal tribes practicing cannibalism. I can go on even about how aboriginal tribes were killing kids who were half aboriginal and were saved by white people. They were part of the 'so called' stolen generation. Need I go on. Should there be criminal investigations into all this? Let's get the big picture of what really happened back then. Let's get back to reality.

One of them says says "How might Aboriginal identity manifest itself in Palawa people, when we have been officially pronounced as extinct? What is the nature of Tasmanian Aboriginal knowledge, and how can we consider it within our new Western paradigmatic setting?" This is best antidote against the stupid imperial prides and fanatic nationalism. British Empire started the colonial system in the very moment that the English thought of "Great Britain". They simply exported, spred, these methods from Ireland and Scotland to every corner of the world worthy of a "British Plantation". Nonetheless, the Tasmanian colonization takes the human degradation very close to the Holocaust borders.
