My grandfather planted a black walnut tree on the edge of our property in 1958. We are in the hight desert SW at 5000 feet, but that tree thrived, grew into a giant tree, and we had many black walnut trees that came up from the the walnuts on the ground. About eight years ago all the walnut trees on the property mysteriously died. I cut down the smaller trees and gave them to wood carvers, but I didn't have the equipment to cut down the big tree. Last year I finely found a tree trimmer who was able to cut down the big black walnut. The main trunk was 36 inches in diameter, and 12 feet long. Many of the branches were 10 to 12 inches in diameter up to 20 feet long. I sold the tree to a person in our village who has a lumber mill. He told me the trunk produced beautiful slabs, but he has never sent me photos like he promised.
It has to be said: you are ridiculously beautiful and so amazingly composed. 99% of the traffic to this channel is for you!
Love a beautiful redhead not afraid to get dirty and who knows what she’s talking about. Great video.
Not only is black walnut absolutely gorgeous, it’s also insanely expensive. Good haul.

0:47 Emerald, really pretty slabs. You and Jade worked hard to get these milled. I love furniture that uses the sap wood as well as the heartwood. The vines on the logs, was that poison oak/ ivy? Just curious.

Fifty years ago, the stump value of black walnut and black cherry was about $5K. That's how much you would have to pay the landowner just to harvest it. I can't imagine what the trees are worth today. They would even dig up the roots to make veneer.
Won't lie, the work ethic and teamwork, production, and editing is impressive as all getout. Makes watching yall worthwhile.
I think black walnut is some of the prettiest wood in the forest. Great job girls and another great video.
Those black walnut logs sure did produce some beautiful slabs. Nice work 👏
Absolutely beautiful slabs; you could clear coat one, hang it on a wall as an art piece
Walnut has a wonderful aroma to it when it is being cut.

Black Walnut 🪵? COOL 😎! LETSGO!! ☮️❤️
Love the first piece's shape, but the color on the middle one is very cool.
Closing in on 100K subs! That's a big deal for any YTer. Fellow fans please tell your friends to join the fun!
Knarly walnut, oak, and cherry hardwood trees have some of the most amazing grain patterns. The slabs get large bucks for what they're used for in furniture making.
Beautiful video minus the weather. All 3 boards are sweet, almost as fantastic as you and your sister, yet not quite. Glad to see the STAR of the company sneak by in the background. Take a bow. Your videos have improved with each new One. I thank you.
The Black Walnut is a real special wood and if handled properly the grain will stand the test of time in a piece of furniture. I can see using anyone of these three as a table top or a night table top and when you think that the board would be only $70. this makes me want to drive from Montreal to Pa. to pick up some lumber 😉 I'm loving these hardwood videos but I really feel the boss needs to find out what the competition is charging for the same wood and bring his prices in line. Really nice video, thank you

I was thinking the same thing Stephen. If any woodwork lives near the Ladies mill they would be a fool not to go and look at the products they have available. Keep up the great videos lady's.
That small piece you showed us would be a great cutting board.
Black walnut is beautiful wood
I am stunned by your low prices. I know the wood is raw, but still! I guess every area and market has it's own price points. Good luck.
Dang, slabs like that could just as easily be wall mounted like art. So beautiful.
Loved the music that was playing while you were unloading the log hopper !! Black Walnut is one of my favorite wood species and your slabs did not disappoint . : )
We are blessed to have had an extremely busy squirrel population over the last 50+ years and our Black Walnut availability is overwhelming in my area. I've milled my fair share of it, and I have to say while its beauty is striking - I love the smell of it being cut.
Place another 6x6 down the center of the log deck for those short logs.
I think you guys are the best. Love your channel. Hi from TN.
I saw that quilted maple and instantly coveted it for electric guitar bodies and necks!
It's like opening a box with a gift inside you don't know what is it until you open it. Then you are very satisfied for the beauty that lay down there. 😘
Way to go, moving up on the value scale of these kind of beautiful pieces of wood. People will buy them, and you all are doing a great job.
Quilting is a variant of "curly". I've got more than my share of quilted, tiger stripe, and fiddle back curly maple in my storage shed right now. Not using it, but I can't part with it either.
The quilted slab would be perfect, bookmarched and made into an electric guitar cap.
What a coincidence. I was cutting a black walnut today on my little Norwood. Always a treat to see what's inside!
Nice looking slabs! Sometimes a short slab could become a fine coffee or end table. Ask your metal working department about a metal frame stand, perhaps in a nice gloss black finish. -Bob...
When I want to see the wood grain after milling a slab I pour a cup of water on it. Brings out colors and gives an idea what the wood can look like once finished. Give it a try sometime. Maybe cold coffee works too.
Beautiful slabs of wood for sure! I think a blade change/sharpening is in order.
My favorite wood “Black Walnut” … it absolutely gorgeous and the middle slab is my favorite - just beautiful wood… Thanks for another great video

It would seem that the usual routine work of cutting wood into lumber, but at the same time, you can find an element of creativity in it. Only a person with good artistic taste can find among the boards a blank for a future work of art or design. I admire hardworking and unusually attractive young ladies with a creative mind.
Jades camera work is seamless
Hard to beat the beauty of a Black Walnut for a native North American tree, I have several pieces of flame crotch that have I have made cutting boards for family and special people in my life, that are absolutely beautiful !!
OK 1st I'm a music guy and I love the background tunes 2nd beautiful wood and 3rd "Gnarly" really? Good on you for bringing back the classics
Walnut is my favorite!
EXCELLENT JOB! Beautiful blanks! Enjoy the family dynamic displayed on this channel! Good employees are a reflection of the teachers (parents). Getting along as coworkers and family members also is NOT EASY! Experienced a BAD family business. TOUGH learning experience! 👍👍
Small pieces if quilted maple are perfect for violin makers. Hello from a violin maker over in Germany who likes your channel.
If the shipping costs weren’t so darn high, id be interested in several slabs. Keep up the good work girls, you are setting the standard for your generation. Your folks might have had something to do with that 😊

Some other viewer mentioned Matt Cremona’s water splash demonstration. Using it would get you some awesome advertising pics for your lumber sales.

My favorite is the slab with the knub at the top. Like it's wearin' a style cabbie hat a train engineer would sport, or somethin'.
Thanks!
Those slabs would be awesome as a countertop with a clear resin finish on it
Thank you for reminding me of my family history. I’m an 80 year old Kiwi (New Zealanders ). And my Grandfather and his brother both had 16 animal bullock teams dragging the Kauri logs out of the bush. A Kauri tree grows up to 50 meters tall and 16 meters in diameter. One of the stories of my grandfather is that he was the only Bullock Driver that didn’t swear. How 32 bullocks managed to drag trees that big even cut into logs out of the bush I have no idea. Maybe they combined with other bullock trains. Anyway thank you for reviving almost forgotten memories. As there is probably no one left alive with memories I think I will go to the library and look it up. Another new hobby to keep me interested for a few years. Good luck with your business.

A suggestion , place a bunk in the middle of your deck for the logs for when your milling short logs that way its easier to roll them to get them on the mill deck

I wish I could find that stuff in Texas. I’m guessing those would run in the $200-$300 range in my parts. Great work y’all! 🌲
Wow!!! Definitely some beautiful wood senorita,, always a pleasure watching you ladies work hard 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍👍👍👍👍
Massive amounts of walnut was harvested and then cut into veneers, that produced walnut dining room tables sold throughout the country.
beautiful wood God Bless you'all
Absolutely beautiful and the slabs are nice too.
A good trick that a lot of the slab cannels use is a water spray bottle "reveal". You sweep the sawdust away and either squirt it with a water bottle or dramatically pour a bucket of water over it revealing the figuring. It's kind of an OHHH, and AHH moment. Works well, might have worked for that quilted piece you showed in this video.

@@johnsadler8637 It's just a green slab at this point. Different story if it had been through a kiln , dried properly , and ready to use. She also didn't say that it was $30, she suggested their price ranges. Being 3" thick, I'm sure the price will be on the high upper end.
Thank's for sharing! Never knew that was called quilting.
You should think about running that last four inch slab thru the saw again. That way, you get two 2-inch slabs that you can be book ended. You double the overall width that can be achieved for a table. Plus, the mirror effect is a pretty cool selling point.
3fters make cool entryway tables Love the short 2in slabs 6ft is a sofa table or coffee Live edge of course Harvest in the winter the bark stays on Summer no
Slabs at that price are excellent value. You would pay probably 6x that price here in the UK.
Use the log loader and a scrap log to push logs onto the lifting arms. Keep working. Good luck! 👍
beautimous - both the wood slabs you highlighted and the obvious love you have for them, the beauty of all the wood you handle.
Those turned out to be very nice.
I can almost smell those walnut slabs!
That's some beautiful Walnut! I love the one in the middle, I think it would make some beautiful live edge end tables! Thanks for sharing them with us, an have a great evening ladies!
Dang! I'd even take one of those top slabs and make a small bar top for my basement.
Figured maple boards like the one you showed at the beginning are used to great effect in guitars...a 1/4 to 1/2" thick piece glued to a slab of mahogany is one of the iconic combinations, used in Les Paul guitars since the '50s...
Nice slabs 👍
Another great job! I just installed walnut on a wall in my office. Looks great.
NOW YOUR IN THE MONEY!
Beautiful job!!
Like the music you pick for your videos!
Good job family thanks
black walnut is amazing
Good video Emerald, I liked the walnut wood. Looking forward to the next video. Take care.
Just love your videos, straight to the point without the whole oh look at me!! Awesome
The white edges or what we call sap wood goes really well with the dark center..love it! Awesome job cutting those logs as well
Every time I watch one of your productions, I learn something new. Thanks...........
Amazing wood u get out of that area, I love the last one the best out of the 3 pices at the end
For that slab wood, you could get more than what you said. I see other KZreadrs who cut slab wood are getting two to three times that amount for wood that is equally as beautiful. I understand that maybe there is not a market there locally at this point, but it will come. Hopefully, someone will step up and start a business if there is not one already around close by that will use the slabs you are cutting.
I wish I knew Emerald. That girl is so beautiful!!!!! I would make a trip there to buy lumber just to meet her but boss man would probably shoot me lol
I noticed my 7 year old watching this behind me… I asked if he thought it was interesting, and liked learning about this like dad does, he just stared and said”she’s beautiful”,I think he’s missing the point lol!
Nice work looks great

I love me some walnut! Beautiful work! ❤
That small piece of figured maple could be used for a maple cap on several electric guitar bodies. Also could be used by a woodworker to make jewelry boxes, etc, but I know that luthiers and woodworkers aren't your market. Perhaps a viewer would be willing to pay for shipping of the small figured piece.
LOL, ME, I dont like a black walnut slab. But I like watching your operation so I will watch the rest of the video now! Laughs
