Ya know Terry as much as I appreciate the girls and their hard work on the mill I always look forward to hearing you share your wisdom. Its like the icing on the cake for this channel with you spreading knowledge when you're free too so thank you for that. And it didn't surprise me seeing Jade still working hard in the background. Awesome vid guys!

Hello Boss nice to hear your expertise on the logs in your yard. Well done Emerald on getting the whole family involved in your videos. Great video here beautifully edited also
I really enjoy the mix of girls working and you explaining things. Everything you and the family have shown is excatly what makes American Dream so desirable. Thanks for all you all do.
It's good to hear I'm not the only one who walks around their mill operation and thinks about so many years of mistakes! I appreciate the honesty.
I just purchased my first mill for a retirement hobby. I really enjoy the channel and seeing the young people work. The value of good hard work is lost on many. You should be very proud of your kids.
Excellent, fascinating video. Being city born and bred I had no idea what exactly goes into running a lumber yard. Bossman, keep these coming and congratulate the girls and family for their input into the videos. I wish you every success.
I really like hearing about your thought process as well as the business end of the operation. Keep making these types of videos.
Thanks for the wisdom boss man! I have worked with wood for 40 years. I always have a great appreciation for the loggers, the mill and the people behind the scenes. Your family is amazing! 👍👌
So happy for the lumber capital crew to see hardwood lumber coming into the inventory for sale! I really hope it adds to both retail sales AND the YT traffic revenue for you all. The whole family works so hard and you deserve to succeed! Can’t wait for more content!
Ha! You can see how much more relaxed Ken is on camera now. Love it. And the family resemblance with the girls is so obvious now too. Great video. Love seeing the whole family. I watch and enjoy you guys everyday.
Honestly, best video yet! Seeing Terry express his hopes and accomplishments in this video, to me he exudes a proud American living his dream not only as a logger and lumberyard owner but also a proud father. Great video!! Thank you...
I really enjoy hearing about the business side of things. The thoughtfulness and planning that goes into processing trees. Please keep these type of videos coming, when you have time, of course!

Thank you for the comment. Boss Man.
Boss man you have a wonderful family. It's educational everytime you show up. Everything can be improved with time glad to see some of your goals and dreams are being met. Working in a factory, its nice to know the working man can create something for himself.
It's been happening over the last 25 years! My friends had a home built about 20 years ago. They had a hard time trying to get enough walnut for their cabinets, vanities, staircase and trim. They finally found a retired cabinet maker, who had 750 board feet of walnut in a kiln. They bought it all cheap!
Yes it's fun to watch the girls working together but as a business man I really enjoy your explanations of how you're trying to make your business more effective and yes, profitable. You mentioned at the beginning all of the mistakes you see when you walk around the yard. It would be interesting to have you do a video showing us the mistakes and how you would have done something different and the changes you're now making to improve on the process and the profitability. Thanks for the walk around and your explanation of the hardwood business.
Just wanted to extend kudos to Emerald for her videography. Just like in the movie "What about Bob?" She is taking "baby steps" to perfection. It takes time to become a pro, but you are on your way!
Glad the Boss has gotten more comfortable making videos, his input into the thought process of maximizing revenue from logs is very helpful. Way to go Dad! Reno
Yes it was very informative and interesting! Loved that you included how you sat down with Em to cook the new plan! :) I just love a good father who really values his kids opinions and views and really listens to them. Mutual respect! Wonderful.
So happy to see the parents on camera listening to their plans and dreams it’s easy to see where you kids get your work ethics from
Adding a comment for the algorithm... I appreciate your vision and passion for what you do. Making art from your work is nice but making functional art from your work AND getting paid is satisfyingly priceless! Keep up the solid work .Cheers! edit: Thanks for supporting Tunnel2towers. Its a great cause!
I think it's really good what your doing with hardwoods. It's also good that you show the business aspects of log yard in end it's business needs a profit. Around here we have several Amish sawmills all they cut is hardwood ties and pallet boards.
This was one of the best videos yet! Kudos to the boss and Em for putting this together. I just purchased a "hobby" sawmill and am learning so much from Ya'll!!
I've ALWAYS wanted to do what y'all are doing. Especially as a family, that's so awesome. So I found this video very interesting and educational. Emerald teaches me something nearly every video. I also find it mesmerizing to just watch the videos of the machine doing its work on the wood. I'm a little jealous I don't have one.
I believe that you folks will be successful with the hardwood. Your approach provides example and inspiration! Thank you!
There are a lot of wood turners out there that would buy some of that hard wood in the fire pile, cut it into squares leaving the bark on and advertise it.

Although I love watching your lovely daughters hard at work it is always nice to hear from the Boss. I love to hear about your reasoning behind what you cut and how it is going to be used. Your concept of as close to zero waste as possible I really appreciate that and there are so many uses for it. Doing what you love and being good at and making a comfortable living for your family is what is really important when the day is over. Having a wonderful family who love each other as your family does is the biggest payday you will ever need. Great job.
Boss man, not only are you interesting in your explanations of various areas of the business, you clearly have the love and respect from the entire family. I hope the hardwood retail really takes off for you as the proceeds are head and shoulders above the wholesale side of the house. I wish I lived closer to your business as I'd happily take some of the cherry and walnut off of your hands. Finally, as a vet, I truly appreciate the donation you're making for a very worthy cause. I will order my hoodie tonight and hope that many other viewers are able to do the same.
I’ve sen the girls run the mill and it’s been very educational. But i equally appreciate a look at the long term business strategy. What has worked, what lessons learned, how are your targets changing, what are the pitfalls that keep you up at night. FWIW
The mill is fun but I love watching these videos most of all. The sharing of knowledge is so valuable.

Great video seeing Dad (aka "The Boss") other than sawing the only thing missing is Em having a sip of coffee! Where I live all small mills are amish.
Made a couple doors with the pine blue stain. Without the blue stain, pine is a boring plain looking wood. Love the blue stain.
I like the way your boss AKA dad thanks That is exactly the way he is supposed to thank awesome video keep up the good work my Godbless you all thank you so much for sharing
Awesome video! Back when I was selling log homes we had people who specified having blue stain pine logs. It was an upcharge because it is relatively rare. I too would wake in the night (always around 3am too) and be unable to shut my brain off thinking of all the aspects of creating and maintaining a profitable business. My family depended on my decisions. Good times those were. I love your wholesome videos and family ties. I will be buying one of the charity shirts. Keep up the good work and all the best to your family. 🙂

Hey, thank you very much. Boss Man.
Always so interesting to hear the thoughts that go into a business and the things that keep you up at night wondering how to get better. If I didn’t live in western Canada I would grab that Honey Locust in a flash. Keep it up, love your channel!
For many of my woodworking projects 4' or even 3' lengths are just fine, so my message to you is that shorter lengths of hardwoods can be just as desirable (and therefore as valuable) as longer lengths.
Yes Bossman. In any business endeavor you gotta get every nickel and dime you can think of. So glad to see you know to pass it down too when you do. Keep it up Buddy.
This discussion was very interesting. It reminds me of farmers and ranchers here in TX trying to calculate the mix of plants or animals that will yield the best return on their investment of time and money with the least detriment to their land. It's a delicate balancing act, and one that I'm glad my living doesn't depend on. One foot in front of another, Boss Man!

I am from Iowa, I'm a wood worker. this was the best video I have seen so far. this one wants me to hook up my trailer and head your way. I do a lot of custom engravings on small pieces for now, but I am starting in the custom furniture world of wood working. I think my family and I might have to take a business training camp and visit you're lumber yard in the near future. I'm sure we wouldn't be leaving empty handed. Thanks for the awesome content. I have also done photography in the past, not sure which one does the videography, or photography but I see huge strides from one video to the next. keep up the awesome work!!!!! Dave
Thank you for your service. My hat is off to anybody who goes to work and produces a product these days. Not everybody can run a profitable business. You guys work hard to produce a renewable product, and I think that is just great. This is all very interesting.
I just really enjoy watching this family business work and evolve and thrive. When I first started watching this channel, it was because I am a woodworker from Southern Ontario and I have an interest in all aspects of woodworking; including how and where the various species of wood that I use are coming from and how they are harvested. However, I have recently come to realize that when I am watching this channel of yours, I receive the added bonus of watching a family work together on their family business and facing the challenges of making that business succeed. It is very refreshing to watch. With so many different KZread channels to watch out there, yours is like a breath of fresh air. Keep up the great work.

I like your approach to developing the business. I've met a lot of people who believed in "Get Rich Quick" and in the end 1 out of 100 people made it and everyone else burned their money. We're probably very similar in our thinking, because for me, if one day I don't have an idea to make something better, I'll give up the shop. I wish you and your wonderful family a lot of success and all the best. And I look forward to many more editions of "The Daily Dose of Lumber".

Really love these type of vids, it genuinely helps me understand your business…. Along with that, the way the “Boss” explains it is trully awesome !!!! Thank you 🙏🏻
Every business has to decide if it is in the hamburger business (sell more items for less $ each) or the steak business (sell fewer items for more $ each). Each model has a different customer base. You also have to decide how much you want to expand vertically or horizontally in your business of choice, i.e. do it yourself or buy your raw or partially finished products. Think out of the box, be flexible, experiment, innovate, have integrity, watch and learn what others are doing. As with agriculture, farmers make more money at their desk than they do in the field, so hire and rent whenever it makes sense. Protect yourself with insurance and require it of your vendors. Beyond that, all I can say is, avoid as much debt as is reasonable and stack paper (cash) whenever possible. One more thing. Please make a short 5 minute movie. You ladies are that good.
You can tell "The Boss" is savvy, hardworking, raising a wonderful business and most importantly, a wonderful family.
Most kids give the eye roll when they see a parent coming. When Emerald spots her father her eyes light up. What a great father he must be

One of the photographers (for a most famous jean brand) told him after paying for the pieces do you want it back otherwise we just trash! The place he works for also does some commissioned work making log benches, chairs and custom tables. I believe some of the benches have sold in the $2,000 to $3,000 range, the do sell in a high income area. I wish all much success in the retail business.

Spaulting looks great on many wood types.
The stained pine sells to the craft furniture crowd big time here in Texas. Isolate it and charge a premium. Sort of like Ambrosia Maple. I don't know your profit in fire wood, but here in Texas there's a premium for wide board and the firewood rendered to 4/4 and 5/4 , random widths at less than 10" wide would sell at full bf price depending on how it grades out. As a furniture maker I only wanted the wide boards when I needed them. Interior parts, drawer fronts, drawer boxes, etc. the narrower boards were a way to cut inputs.
That’s pretty interesting what you can get out of a log! Thxn,be safe.
Great video a great way to show ur products
