One important thing I had meant to mention (for those who aren't aware): The Garmin / GPS unit featured in the video, does *not* come with the Analogue Caravan as standard. Cheers everyone! : )

Yes, getting this plane yesterday finally encouraged me to get the TDS version of the GTNXi. After flying and enjoying the Caravan, I am really anxious for the King Air to be released. I don't care for the Asobo version with the G3 cockpit, so the analog should be much more enjoyable. Thanks for the review sir!

As a caravan pilot my self I really love this add on, all the small attentions to detail is something I can really appreciate, from the way the fuel needles move around as fuel sloshes in the tank to the way the voltammeter is realistically modled. I prefer the ground handling of this caravan compared to the asobo one. My biggest problem with this add on is the perfermance way exceeds what the caravan is realistically capable of. All in all I think its a great add on and is a great learning tool for the caravan that offers high fidelity to the real caravan. And a great tool help practice IFR (the reason I got this add on as I don't get to do IFR often).

Ah well thanks very much Captain Motorsickle - always great to have feedback from those that have flown the aircraft; happy to hear that you think Black Square have done a pretty decent job with the 208 overall. I did spot the fuel gauges and was impressed myself, even made mention of it during the flight, but that bit ultimately got edited out (along with my waffling explanation of how the RNAV unit theoretically works haha). I see Black Square have just brought out a pretty sizeable update for the Analogue Caravan. I haven’t had a chance to try it yet myself, but that’s great to see. Hopefully it addresses some of the performance issues that you have made mention of also. Cheers and happy flying! : )

Hi Ben, Yes, it's a pretty nice addon for those of us who prefer our steam gauges. The overhaul idea is a great one and like you, I hope Black Square continue on with other aircraft (though again, I do hope the flight model receives a little more attention in the future). The Black Square team already put out a very comprehensive update for the Caravan, so that's great to see! All the best : )

Thanks for the great video. I bought the caravan yesterday and it was a fantastic puchase. As otherts have said, this is exactly what I've been waiting for. The aerodynamics are definitely improved, but could use more work. Hopefully there will be some 3rd party mods now since its compatible with the default Caravan. I don't like glass cockpits much either and this Caravan now looks much more like what I'm used to in previous sims. However I have already "replaced" the Caravan with a third party aircraft but I will be looking very closely at your review when the upgrade for the King Air is released.

Thanks very much Hector, really glad you enjoyed it! I try my best to do my homework ahead of time, firstly because I it's what I enjoy doing, but secondly because I think it's the only fair / decent way to give the addon a shakedown. For sure the price might seem high on the surface of it but as you say, a lot of effort has to go into getting the systems modelled to such a degree. For this sort of price point, my only gripe (as I mentioned during the video) is that I would have liked to have seen a little more work done on the flight model. Black Square also subsequently issued a massive update, with a more comprehensive failure modelling system etc - so hats off to them! Cheers and all the best : )

"Upgraded to steam gauges" I like the cut of your jib. 😆 This thing has been the talk of the town in my bush flying VA with those of us that prefer steam gauges and with myself because I love the GTN 750. The lack of WTT autopilot with the PMS50 is a little disappointing but I think I'll put this on the long list of things to eventually pick up.

Hi Alexander, Haha, I realised after I said it, that probably didn't quite sit right; but then figured it was still an appropriate statement : P Generally speaking, people seem to really be enjoying the Analogue King Air. As you allude to, I do think there were a few missed opportunities with the product (especially for the price point), but it's still a big enhancement to the Caravan; so for the 208 lovers out there, it's certainly worthy of consideration. As you say, stick it on the list and perhaps wait for a sale if unsure ; ) On a different note, thank you ever so much for becoming a channel member! I really struggled with this - I have come to love steam gauges and I always loved the Caravan - one of my favourite default planes. I gave in and bought this upgrade and I have to say i do love it. I love steam gauges and i love having a choice (in flight) of the navigation aids. The plane has always been "relatively" easy to fly so I dont know enough to say if this flight model is better or worse....but it has reinvigorated my love of the caravan. And I suspect - the King will be bought as I never liked its cockpit with the glass screens, as much as i love the plane! And of course a fair review as always, thank you!

If they are really planning to overhaul the whole base fleet of MSFS, i would hope for Microsoft getting the memo and paying them for doing so. Getting fully functional (given not "studylevel", yet believable 90%ish aircrafts in the base pack for the enjoyment of everyone... would eliminate one of the main critiques on MSFS. Only if the flight models get more customized, different of course. This is asked too much for the price of the simulator, maybe this would be a great big "Realism Addon" i would certainly spend money for. Not really 25-35 times 2X bucks what they would charge when they do it (if) on their own. As always a big Gracias for producing your reviews! 💙

This is nothing particularly new for sims, to be honest. X-plane had those simcoders REP addons for some of the default and more basic addon planes to bring them up to a much higher standard too. It doesn't really bother me personally if default planes are fairly basic---when you're developing an entire sim, you don't have a lot of time to spare on getting a bunch of little details right on the "free" planes that come with it, especially when the vast majority of people that use the default planes either don't care about the missing functionality, or are just going to replace them with addon planes.

I fly in VR with a motion platform ( NLR V3 ), and this plane is the closest I ever felt to being in actual airplane as a pilot. Hard to describe but the suspension of disbelieve is permanent throughout the whole flight. Just knowing that every switch works, even though some of them you never bother to touch, adds immensely to that feeling. Since I am not an actual pilot, I do not know how accurate the flight model is, but it sure feels better than the Kodiak, which requires an unbelievable amount of torque juggling on approach. It just never seems to be gradual in its changes, maybe that is more realistic, but since you cannot follow the POH of the Kodiak, lest you want to crash, I prefer the Caravan’s model.

Yo IBS. TB here. Hope you are well and free of illness and disease 😅 I have a problem doing coupled basic ILS approaches. There are 2 buttons below the CDi/VOR thingey... NAV/GPS ... and a GPS/APPR button. What is the latter used for ? If I do a basic HDG intercept and activate Appr on the autopilot it doesn't always intercept it and fly it. Although it does show as Armed and Captured in the AP display. This GPS/APPR button is a mystery and no doubt has something to do with it. Hi TB, Yes, all good here thanks, cough cough XD To tell you the truth, I’m not 100% sure on that one myself. My educated guess, is that it’s used for flying coupled GPS approaches, or is otherwise related to the RNAV unit, but I haven’t tested it myself and haven’t come across such a button in the real world (most of the GA aircraft I have flown were pretty basic though). Have you tried watching some of the official Black Square videos? I haven’t had a chance to watch them myself, but I’d imagine they *might* cover that functionality. I’m not sure why the aircraft isn’t capturing the ILS though, I’ve had no problems in that regard myself. . . Sorry I can’t be of more help on that one. All the best once again! : )

Unfortunately, ILS approaches in MSFS still tend to be rather sub par (I’m really not sure why, as I’d imagine it’s actually relatively simple to program), so a shallow intercept is always the best way to go ; ) Cheers!

@@IntotheBlueSimulations Agreed. It appears the stck AP is not as capable as the PMDG 747 for P3D. I am now nursing it onto a narrow intercept path, getting into landing config and it's behaved itsrlf thus far.

Haha, the stock MSFS autopilot isn’t even as capable as the stock FS98 autopilot XD As much as I love MSFS, it has some catching up to do when it comes to autopilots, taxiway markings, ATC etc. . .

I think that's somewhat fair criticism SN. The product itself is actually very good (ie the gauges and systems depth are great), but at this sort of price point, I would have liked to have seen other areas improved further as well, namely the flight modelling. Everyone that has purchased the product seems to be very happy with it; as always I suppose it just comes down to personal preference, as to whether or not the package is worth the asking price. Cheers and all the best! : )

I love the steam gauge cockpit but I feel the price is quite steep for only a cockpit improvement. That’s the price of a full aircraft. If they did full systems and flight modeling then it would be more compelling even if they use the default external 3D model.

Hi Hartbreak, Yes, you definitely aren't the only one that feels this way. The package is a very solid effort, but it is hard to justify the pricing, when we're now seeing study level jets coming in at the same sort of price point. Personally at this sort of price, I would have liked to have seen more work on the flight model at least. As always though, it just comes down to individual preference at the end of the day. To be fair, most people that have purchased, seem to be very happy with the Analogue Caravan overall. All the best! : )

I love steam gauges and the Caravan, but this is entirely overpriced for what is delivered. Glad to hear that the new Orbx mesh looks good! Nice flight, thanks!

Hi Myles, The package itself is very good, but you're correct that it is somewhat hard to justify the price point, especially when we now have complete "study level" jets coming out for the same sorts of money. I tend not to comment on price, as I think it's totally up to the individual, whether or not a product offers good value for money, but personally I would have at least liked to have seen a more study level flight model included in the package. The people that have purchased the Analogue Caravan, do seem to be enjoying it a lot though. As always the Orbx Mesh is very nice. Cheers and all the best! : )

Hi Edward, I think that's fair. The product is great, but a little bit hard to justify the price point perhaps, when we now have "study level" jets releasing for similar sorts of money. I think an overhaul of the flight model is really to be expected at this sort of price point as well. All the best : )
