The video is completely fan produced. Don’t look for meaning there. It’s very high on production value but it’s decades late to the party. The song is far simpler than that but still awesome. And yes... Tony Iommi. A straight up God of Guitar. But don’t discount the rest of the band. Bill Ward, Geezer Butler, and Ozzy who had to compete against a stack of gained up Laney amps every night.

This is an anti-war song which came out during the Vietnam war. The guitarist name is Tony Iommi considered by most to be the founder of heavy metal guitar riffs. Black Sabbath were trailblazers and considered the first heavy metal group. The lyrics of this song are hard-hitting and still ring true today. This is a Timeless classic

Hard to believe this song is nearly 50 yrs. old! The message still holds up in present day. The video is cool and all, but yes, the lyrics and song are the real things that you need to focus on. Well, yeah. And it still will be timeless in the future i am afraid. Sabbath played loud music, but they weren't as satanic as Coven were before them. They weren't fans of that witchcraft thing. And they were right. Who needs wizards, goblins and witchcraft as the same time horrible things happen to our world such as war?

The guitarist's name is Tony Iommi, who lost some fingertips in an accident at a industrial facility. That didn't stop him from becoming an iconic guitarist. This song is basically about how governments who start wars for their own gain, but won't actually fight in it. They'd rather send us commoners out there into the Hell.

"War Pigs" was written during the Vietnam War, and the Cold War. The song had meaning to young Americans, because the draft was still in place, and wealthy and powerful families could find ways to keep their adult children from being drafted into the US Armed Forces, while poor people had to be drafted, then fight and die in the war. During the Cold War, there were a lot of "proxy wars" all over the planet at that time, often taking place for control of oil fields, and precious metals mining interests. That is what Black Sabbath was angry about in this song.

Here's my take: I don't mind the video as an abstract reinterpretation of the song, or maybe as a compliment to what the video makers were trying to say. That's fine. It happens a lot with powerful classics like this. Hollywood does it all the time, and often to much worse effect. I just wish it wasn't mistaken for an official, sanctioned video--as though it has anything to do with the _actual_ intent of War Pigs.

It shows the politicans high in their halls plotting destruction, the common poeple working making weapons, suffering and dying as a result of the war, being treated as pawns in chess and all that. It fits pretty well with the song.

The song came out in 1970 and the Vietnam War had become increasingly unpopular at that time. The band were saying that poor folks are sent to war by rich politicians who don't feel much personal loss for all the deaths they are actually responsible for. The guitarist, Tony Iommi, lost the tips of two fingers at a sheet metal factory when he was 17 but didn't give up his dream of becoming a musician. Five years later this song came out, making him a world-wide legend.

This song is from the first ever heavy metal album in 1970 (my birth year) and the lyrics was written in the worst moment of Viet-Nam war, that point is relevant for the lyrics. @ Step n Jay Lee, yes, Black Sabbath basically invented heavy metal. Here's an interesting fact; it was released on September 18th, 1970. The same day Jimmy Hendrix died. Pretty crazy. Have you reacted to anything from Jimmy Hendrix? There are no words to even describe him. Stevie Ray Vaughn covered a few of his songs. Hes another on an insane level. Very bluesy. So much soul for a white man that its mesmerizing lol. Its hypnotic watching him play.

This song was made for, and came out during the Vietnam War. Tensions were very high, here at home in the States but, also every where else. We had riots all over the States, protesters killed in Berkley Univ. We had already lost over 1/4 of a million Black and White Men Fighting for a war we had no business being involved in. Ozzy wanted to express his view of the war.

The song was inspired by the Vietnam War. Geezer Butler recalled to Mojo in 2017: "Britain was on the verge of being brought into it, there was protests in the street, all kinds of anti -Vietnam things going on. War is the real Satanism. Politicians are the real Satanists. That's what I was trying to say." Geezer Butler, bass player and lyric songwriter for black sabbath

She is Freedom. Watching people die for her, trying to comfort the fallen. And when the authoritarians become powerful enough to try to execute her, she climbs the stairs of the citadel to defy them. Notice that the white blindfold of innocence changes to the blood red scarf of revolution. Like the lyrics to the song itself, a strong, simple message that has been true for 4000 years.

I know someone mentioned tony. But theres a secret to his sound. He hand the tips of his fingers cut off in a factory accident and had to waer leather tips. But the rifs are do to the need to tune the guitar a full step down. This essentially created the tone of heavy metal.

Tony Iommi was a sheet metal worker and he lost the tips of 3 of his fingers in a work accident. He thought his guitar playing days were over until someone gave him an old record of Django Reinhardt (1920's to 1950s Jazz Guitarist) who lost 2 fingers in a fire. Tony had someone make him prosthetic fingertips and they are part of the reason his style evolved the way it did. Bill Ward the drummer grew up in a household with a lot of Big Band Swing records and describes his style of drumming as being heavily influenced by big band swing drummers. Ozzy got the gig with the band because he had his own PA They started out as the Polka Tulk Blues Band, then changed their name to Earth but on finding out some band already had that name was looking for a name. A cinema across the road from where they rehearsed had a Spaghetti Horror film starring Boris Karloff called Black Sabbath and the rest is, as they say, history.

the guitarist actually lost his fingertips in a metal working accident shortly before they had a gig where some music industry ppl would be and he took, i believe it was bottle caps and formed them to fit his damaged fingertips to help with their sensitivity and he tuned down his guitar so the strings weren't so tight. It lead to their sound, that many say, is the birth of heavy metal. I grew up in the PMRC era and i remember how everyone wanted to label them as devil worshipers and would quote lines like "and satan laughing spreads his wings" but they wouldnt read out the rest of the lyrics. It gives me hope that adults now can objectively listen to songs like these and actually get the point. Back in the day the adults were still drinking the american apple pie cool aid and i guess they couldnt see the truth because it would crumble the foundations of their lives.

Black Sabbath: Nationality: British from Birmingham Voice: Ozzy Osbourne Guitar: Tony Iommi Bass Guitar: Geezer Butler Drums: Bill Ward In 1970 as this song came out they looked like this: kzread.info/dash/bejne/YqWV0KhmaZTHetI.html That song "Paranoid" is also a classic and the LP´s title-song of that album release where you also find the song "War-Pigs" which was a song against war in the time where the Vietnam war was still going on. That video is just an abstract interpretation made decades later.
