For a low-budget production, they really did an outstanding job capturing one of the all-time great heavy metal performance.

Thank god you reacted to the audio only, so refreshing! So many reaction channels fall for a fan made video, which is slick but has nothing to do with the band or the song and I get sick of seeing it. You guys are doing it right, original audio first, then maybe some live performance versions. BTW It's TONY Iommi, not TOMMY, on guitar.

Ozzy was in Sabbath until 1979. After that he formed a solo band with Randy Rhodes as his guitarist. Dio joined Sabbath and the 1st album was Heaven and Hell, cant wait to see you react to the songs on that era of Sabbath.

Geezer Butler plays bass and wrote most of the lyrics in the Ozzy era, including War Pigs. There are no "three best songs". Their three most popular songs are Paranoid, War Pigs, and Iron Man. They had 20 studio albums, and there were five vocalists who contributed to at least one album, with Ozzy, Ronnie James Dio and Tony Martin contributing to 9, 4 and 5 studio albums, and Ian Gillan and Glen Hughes contributing to 1 each respectively. Both vocal and musical styles are vastly different depending on the era and the vocalist.

Other than the Ozzy era songs that others have already recommended, I'd recommend Die Young and Falling off the Edge of the World from the Dio era and When Death Called and Eternal Idol from the Martin era.

Cool guys. Great to see you react to War Pigs man. Heavy, heavy tune- and introduced right during the hippy-dippy 70s. Too much. Tony Iommi is the original riff master! The whole band were each absolute masters of their craft. You were wondering who wrote this. I've been a fan of Sabbath since 1972 and have read a lot about them, so I can probably answer that. Here's how it went down in those early Black Sabbath sessions: Tony Iommi would show the band some cool riff he came up with on guitar, then Geezer Butler (bass player) and Bill Ward (drummer) would start jamming and write their parts to go along with Tony's riff. Then Ozzy would write the vocal melody while making up words, sometimes like scat (where you sing nonsense syllables) and sometimes with real lyrics. Then later Geezer would write actual lyrics, like a poet. Then they would do it again with the new lyrics. So they all wrote their own parts, but it would usually start with a part written by Tony. Or actually sometimes Geezer would write the song riff (like in the song Hand of Doom). Sometimes they would make this shit up on stage! Sometimes the lyrics would evolve over time. If you watch certain live videos of Sabbath in the 70s you hear them do War Pigs but the lyrics are different in parts, not really as good as the final lyrics that ended up on the album. Here is a KZread link to a 1970 Black Sabbath show: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fWeWmLWAn7GclKQ.html. The lyrics on this 1970 live version are close but some are out of order and some just don't work. It's cool to see how they were working on it, but it wasn't quite polished yet. But the lyrics were polished/written by Geezer Butler. He was a poet and a philosopher. And yeah to answer your question about how many guitars are there?! In the recording studio Tony Iommi would lay down the solo, and then, like you thought, he would layer another solo on top of it, then another. It's called multi-tracking and is a cool studio trick. You guys may not be musicians but you caught that detail, and you even said it's like one dude playing several guitars at once. Good ears! Do me a favor and listen sometime to the Black Sabbath song Symptom of the Universe. It's from their 6th album Sabotage, so you may want to explore the earlier albums first. But sooner or later you have got to hear Symptom of the Universe. It's a great hard rocker, and is even said to be the first thrash metal song. It transitions into a 2nd part that is so cool it will make you drool. Ozzy delivers some of his most soulful powerful singing. Dig it yeah!

You guys have done "Iron Man" and "War Pigs"... great songs for sure. BUT... no evaluation of Black Sabbath is complete until you've reacted to some of the Ronnie James Dio era Sabbath, which should spur some great discussion on comparing the two vocalists. My picks (in order) of the top Dio-era songs are: "Heaven and Hell", "Neon Knights", and "Children of the Sea". It looks like you guys are having fun on this rock music journey and it's wonderful to see. You will no doubt question the music that you hear being made now with all of the flashy studio tricks and digital enhancements now that you're hearing musicians and vocalists who had to rely on raw talent alone. Enjoy the ride... there's plenty more to explore! (PS... huge RUSH fan here. I'd love to see some more. "Natural Science" is a musical and lyrical treat, and those headphones will bring it to life!)
