You two are amazing when it comes to reacting to the most iconic bands out there. I saw Sabbath in 1978 and they were fantastic! A side note to this song; I'm a guitar player of 49 years and have played this song forever, but with the advent of KZread I found out several years ago that Tony Iommi tuned his guitar down one and a half frets(from E to C#), which is what gives it the heavy, ominous sound.

Geezer wrote almost all of the lyrics, the bass player. He was a brilliant lyricist. I know it's a year late, but would recommend Sabbath's Spiral Architect sometime, also Hand of Doom. Art.

In 71 I was16, in the 11 th grade, A collage friend turned me on to Sabbath. So I turned my friends on in highschool. so, by the 12th grade they're was about of 20 kids listening to SAbbath in my school. Everybody else thought we were Devil worshipers, mainly because we listened to BLACK SABBATH. sounded Satanic. They never took the time to listen to the lyrics. I saw them on their first American and saw them on their last American tour. a complete circle of great music that gave me many good memories... God Bless.

Very nice review. I'm 59 and an avid guitarist. A bit later in life for me, around 30, Black Sabbath hit me like a ton of bricks. Somehow I hadn't understood their huge contribution to the Metal genre up to then. I was lucky enough to see them twice. Once when I was a teen - and still didn't get it. And once in the 1990s. Epic is the perfect word for them.

I remember having this album in vinal. I was just out of high school, and I would play it over and over.Im sure my neighbors just loved it!😂The album was released in1971.The song writers were Tony Iommi, Ozz Osbourn, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward. It is about the Earth becoming so terrible that a group of astronauts fly off into space to try to find a better world.

Hi Lovely couple. This album was the second I bought when in my early teens (First was Sabotage by Black Sabbath - Brilliant songs including icons like Hole in The Sky, Megalomania and Am I Going Insane). My favorite off Master of Reality is Children of the Grave. I'm a huge Sabbath fan and will always love the genius of Toni Iommi and the distinctive voice of Ozzy Osborne. It is incredible their songs are as alive today as they were when released more than fifty years ago.

Great reaction to a great song. You have to realize that when Black Sabbath was first releasing their albums that the vast majority of music critics HATED them. Black Sabbath was a basically a punch line through the 70s, 80s and even 90s. However, to the faithful, Black Sabbath is great and have been highly influential to many people and bands. It is great to now see people find Black Sabbath and appreciate them for the musicians that they are.

I have listened to Sabbath for about 40 of my 53 years, one of my first bands was a Sabbath cover band. They are amazing both lyrically and musically. A fun rabbit hole to go down, my favorite era was the Ozzy singing

Black Sabbath had what I think is the greatest songwriting duo ever, which was the creative genius lead guitar player (he also plays flute and some keyboard), Tony iommi (eye-OWE-me), who wrote the music (and who essentially invented metal), and the outstanding bass player, Geezer (Terry) Butler, who wrote the lyrics. I saw them play live many times, and the chemistry between them especially was incredible. This album came out in 1971, which was incredibly ahead of its time, both musically and with lyrics. The great jazz influenced drummer is Bill Ward.

This is great! First concert in my life (when I was 12) was Black Sabbath Reunion Tour 1999 with the original line-up. They are the true pioneers of the genre ❤️ I guess I have to go and buy a song request for the first time 🤠

They started downtuning on this album, pioneering sludge and stoner metal subgenres. Zweskms riffs throughout this song, especially the one at fhe end. Supergrooving.

The album "Master of Reality" with this song is from 1971, one year after "Paranoid" with "War Pigs", a time when the Cold War between East and West and the threat of nuclear war was ever present. In this context the lyrics of "Into the Void" and a couple of other songs on these albums are easier to understand.

There used to be a sort of Black Sabbath/Deep Purple divide among fans. Purple had more interesting melody lines for their singers, and more sophisticated word choices, but their lyrics were rarely as thoughtful. Butler gave us sensible relationship advice, discussions of mental health, all sorts. Add Iommi's composition and the band's skill and it's gold!

Growing up my mother thought and was told Black Sabbath was evil. The name, the sound, the dark feeling the music gives off. But when you hear the passion in the words of the song and the deep meaning, the message they send out is clear, it’s not about evil. There’s hope, peace, and happiness in what they sing.

Hello Terry " Geezer" Butler bassist, was also the primary lyricist, he is a huge idol to many bass players. God bless you both.

I had this album after my years in high school or around that time and a friend of mine had other SABBATH albums but I had this one and it was great the most amazing songs and one that stood out was AFTER FOREVER it is without a doubt one of The most telling of truths about reality in life and about your Faith it’s timeless and still speaks along this TRUTH Today the Point is the religious overtones in much of their music Many people either hated them or were just overwhelmed by them .😅

i went to take a bass guitar lessons when i was a teen, and the instructor told me to play something for him, so he could know where i was at.. so i played this song, and he told me i didnt need to take lessons

Into the Void--1971 You should react to Pink Floyd. Echoes live at Pompeii. 1971. It is on KZread. It's a great song. The video is beautiful. Pink Floyd is a huge band, unlike any other in the history of modern music. That song/video will make you an immediate fan, if you are not already.

Geezer Butler, their bassist, is also their gifted lyricist. The song Snowblind might be my favorite of his. His word choice, and the imagery he creates, is often quite haunting and evocative.

Hand of Doom lyrics are extremely deep and the music follows the story of the downward spiral and aftermath of heroin addiction, brought on by the horrors of war…very DEEP.

Definitely check out some live classic KISS from any 70's era show. You will LOVE them!!

There is a huge variety of different sounds and lyrical themes in metal/rock music. Only metal has so many subgenres that I cannot even count. So it's not always only screaming and noise, like most people think. Anyway, welcome to the world of rock and metal. 😉 There is something for everyone there. And I am happy to follow you on the journey, no matter if I like the band or not (just like now, because I really don't like Black Sabbath, but I have a big respect for them because they are considered to be the first metal band and they influenced a lot of future bands).

These guys were all from a working class city that was full of industrial factories so they were very plugged into the effects of pollution. This would have been right around the time that global warming discourse was just beginning to enter the mainstream but the difference between the air in London and the air in say Sheffield was very obvious all the way back in the first industrial revolution. When people reference the London Fog they’re usually talking about the kind of textile pollution that literally sticks to the skin. Gnarly stuff. So any lyrics reflective of the world they (usually specifically the bass player, Geezer Butler writing them) were living in would have captured these realities. Also yes these riffs rip; well observed. Gojira is a good example of a modern metal band with extremely socially/environmentally conscious lyrics. Musically they are much heavier than Sabbath though so fair warning there.

Tony Iommi Master of the Riffs! I've liked Sabbath for as long as I can remember. Even the stuff without Ozzy. Some examples: Dio ("Heaven and Hell"), Gillan ("Born again"), Martin ("I won't cry for you"), and others. Wow, what a list of great albums! "Over and Over" with Dio here Iommi is unstoppable towards the end. YOU DO THIS VERY WELL, STAY ON THIS PATH.

Very cool, but as a slight correction, it's Tony iommi (with an i, not an L), pronounced eye-OWE-me). On a computer keyboard, a capital i looks like an I, which resembles an L, which confuses a lot of people.

Once I understood Black Sabbath was focused on truth regardless of which institution it 'upset', then the name made sense because they have nothing to do with the popularized concept. This song tells me mankind is not only ruining this planet, but will inevitably ruin any others it touches. It's a huge environmental theme with a sub-theme of those responsible never learning. [edit] On the show - The Osbornes. Ozzy had already split from Black Sabbath and his marriage to Sharon whom started as his personal manager began a series of events which made her infamous and Ozzy a loveable dolt.

Next time - Snowblind or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath😉

Geezer Butler, bassist and main lyricist is a pacifist vegetarian. who created the lyrical milieu of “Heavy Metal”. The concept of metal as a genre was the invention of Geezer.

Ozzy Osbourne is the TV CLOWN!! But he´s the original voice of Black Sabbath....but no is my favourite.... Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio is THE BEST!! then they comeback with the name of "Heaven and Hell" (Ozzy Osbourne´s wife stolen the name of the band) anyway: Tony Iommi is the Real Father of Heavy Metal ...hugs from México!

The lyrics are great alright. But in the end its all about the music. The lyrics are sprinkles on top. Wout attention grabbing music you wouldnt listen long enough to hear the lyrics.

The "Osbournes" was a terrible introduction for you ! The documentaries "Black sabbath sabotage" "The nine lives of ozzy Osbourne" AND "God bless ozzy Osbourne" Are all very good.

The Osbourne was a terrible show. In fact it turns out that they don’t behave like that in real life.
