When I was boy I used to race pigeons with my grandad. One time we got this lovely blue white cock bird in and I wanted to keep it being a kid and it looked beautiful. Any way long story short my grandad rang the person who’s bird it was and he was that great full that he send me and my grandad too pure black pigeon in Exchange for his bird back(apparently of champion bloodline) Either way I was more then pleased with these black birds and they looked exactly like the ones you are showing here. The man said they were extremely rare in colour yet I didn’t understand as I had blacks in my loft but now I get it. Just a shame I don’t have pigeons anymore but that’s not forever as I feel the calling again now in my older days as a dad myself I can see me passing the legacy to my children. Thank you for this video and just know you have inspired me to start pigeons again. I’m in the U.K. so I’ll have to get the right area first as unfortunately you can’t just keep pigeons in your back garden unless you own the land. I suppose if they don’t know it won’t hurt hahaha but then again is it worth losing them all if they say I have to get rid. Might be worth waiting hahaha

I'll do a video on white in the future, but really they could be hiding anything. The best way to find out is to mate them to an unrelated blue bar.

I have been enjoying your videos. I want a family of blacks to fly with my white homers, I have picked up a few black pigeons, do I just breed black to black to make a family of blacks? how many birds do you keep in your black family of racers to keep them going for 15 years?

Black to black will get you 75-100% blacks in every nest, you can also cross them into better quality blues to improve the flying and you'll get at least 50% blacks in the offspring.

Thanks for the videos. I bred my first youngsters this year and am only just starting out. The video on color genetics will be very helpful. I'm finding it all v confusing how color and patterns work. I have two blue spread youngsters that are totally black too, hopefully a cock and hen, will they give me all blacks if I pair them up.

Thanks! Yes they will breed you spreads. Depending on if they carry one or two copies of the gene, you might also get a few non spreads.

@@ThundercatLoft no, dark cheq is a "pattern gene", black (called spread) is a "modifying gene", these are two different and unrelated things. I will be doing videos in the future explaining it more fully
