I first heard a black person speaking Welsh about fifty years ago when I was on holiday in Snowdonia. He was a young lad about seventeen years of age talking to his mates ( all white) outside a chip shop in one of the slate-quarrying villages. The sense of it being something incongruous lasted for about thirty seconds. Black people speaking Welsh is now quite common. Kizzie Crawford and her sister live near my town. Ben Cabango recently became the first Welsh-speaker with African heritage to play football for Wales.

Learning Welsh increases your National consciousness and marries you to the land and it's culture, making you a Cymro,or a Cymraes. Those who don't speak the language are not truly Welsh.Just like someone who lives in England and doesn't speak English is not English. Welsh Culture cares not about race or ethnicity ,it cares about your willingness to learn and understand it .It's all about respect ,it's all about making the effort.and the 'croeso you'll receive when you become CYMRAEG..not just merely"Welsh"(a horrible Saxon name for foreigner)

From nursery to year 11 I was in Welsh schools; in comprehensive school, there was one Black boy of a ~thousand white kids. He happened to be in my form class the entire 5 years. Another Black boy came to the school about 3 years later... It was his brother. I often think about how their experience must've been and how isolating that could've and would've felt sometimes. He was cool though, very funny :D Edit: comp years: 2007-2012

How else did they get their names? Just like 99% of African Americans who say their great grandma was a 'Cherokee' native to explain away the lighter skin or loosely curled hair in their families. No it's slavery. Your ancestors existed to work the field, be maids/nannys, lab rats, and hump toys. That's why your skin is lighter and hair is straighter than West Africans. Accept it. The slave owners with the last names Williams, Jones, Johnson, Jackson, Smith, Green, Hill, Jenkins etc owned the most slaves. That's why every fifth black American has one of those last names.
