Raphael Saadiq is talking about Percy Sledge's "When a Man Loves a Woman." It was the first hit that came out of Muscle Shoals, Alabama. It was produced by the legendary Rick Hall and distributed by Atlantic Records.

We had our own publications and standards that WE supported and discussed in the past. EVERYONE does not have to be as massive as Beyonce, or a massive crossover hit.. I would love for the BMC to be like a Motown 2.0...they are SO needed.

This is a great interview, they were dropping some knowledge. I definitely agree with what Raphael said about supporting black music. I love attending concerts and buying CDs. The crazy and sad thing is there hardly anymore record stores they slowly becoming extinct. I have to purchase CDs from Amazon and a friend of mine told me that artists don’t make money from buying CDs from Amazon which was crazy. Then concerts I do my best to try to go support the artist I love like last year I saw Raphael Saadiq and did the meet & greet with Raphael Saadiq. In the past I paid for tickets to see Janet, Joe, Donell Jones, music festival with about 5 artists, and etc. I wish I could be apart of this interview as a fan of music to spill my piece on music today vs back then. I want to be a promoter for older artists from my generation and maybe to some today that don’t or hardly get record play but is a true musician.

How is snowy Robinson taking about protecting black music and he green lighted and celebrated J Lo doing the Motown tribute. Motown war created to give voices of African American artist they have been overheard by the racist music industry. No disrespect to him. Still respect and love smokey. Just have to point it out
