its mainly because you're speaking chinese. they appreciate you speak the language which is great on your part - fair play!!. and if you look different you can either attract or repel more people.. otherwise you'd probably be ignored a lot more. depends where you are also. Not all places are the same regards foreigners - from experience and other races including Africans that I've met there. and most just want a picture or video - not asking for your wechat too much.
