My black golden retriever, Madie, got bone cancer and I had to put her down today. I miss her a lot already. She was such a sweetheart and a good doggie.

@Joseph Stalin I'm not sure. She started having trouble walking and the vet wasn't sure what it was, thought it was some sort of strain in her ligament. Eventually, they x-rayed her and found the cancer. She only lived a little over 3 weeks after that.

I am so sorry to hear that ThundersDad. I lost my first Golden when she was 12. It was like losing one of my own kids. She will see you on the rainbow bridge, waiting for you. I hope my Sara is.

@@Projectsign1 Thank you. I lost my German Shepherd last year when he was 14. We'd been together since he was 10 weeks old. These deaths are like long lasting gut punches. Not easy to get over.

How is this possible, this good boi is so adorable.

I have a golden retriever/ great pyrenees mix. Both parents are white/cream in color and full blooded. The great pyr is the mom and had a litter of thirteen, five of which are black. I got one of the males at eight weeks. He is now seven months and just beautiful.

@@tonyfahed5276not necessarily. Sometimes, there are some recessive traits in golden retrievers which result into this. May be their grandparents or great-grandparents were mated with black labs.

@@gusneverdied this is a flat coated retriever more than likely. Goldens are not recognized with black coats according to the AKC, and labradors are short coats also according to AKC breed standards in order for the dog to be considered pure bred.

Black golden retrievers ain't a thing. As far as I know. It's like saying someone is a black white guy. But I can understand where it comes from cause this dog has the build of the golden and Labrador but For the rest it's more flatcoated retriever.

I don't know if people say black golden retriever because it's easier to remember it like that then the actual breed name or because it's a fault in the GR breeding genes where sometimes a rare black GR is born.

No, the flat coated retriever and golden retriever are seperate breeds. Sometimes there will be a genetic colour defect in goldens that will make their fur black. It doesn't affect their health, it just makes their coat black.

@@humancentipede33 that only creates a birthmark type marking. A fully black coated dog is never a full golden retreiver as goldens do not have the dominant allele E that would create a fully black coat.
