Thank you for taking the time to watch the first episode of a new series that I plan to shoot around Mexico (and the globe). I've received a few requests to talk about the Black experience in Playa del Carmen, so I decided to interview some of my friends who I met in Playa del Carmen to provide you with a couple different perspectives. I hope you enjoy it and please let me know in the comments below where you'd like to see me do this next! :)

In Mexico there is also pride in African roots, near the city of Xalapa in Veracruz, we have festivals that celebrate Afro-descendant pride, I recommend for example "the carnival of coyolillo" which is a celebration of African culture near City of Xalapa, By the way, traditional Veracruz music is strongly influenced by African and indigenous rhythms, which makes the State of Veracruz the closest to our third root.

I also have had the opportunity to visit every hometown where you come from...Long Beach...L.A....Paris...except Connecticut... seeing you are all smiles makes me happy as well...and if you are happy that's what it counts... honestly l don't know where that idea came from that black community is not accepted in Mexico when it's totally the opposite... actually México has acceptance for everyone...l have to be thankful to the social media that is reaching most unknown places in the world so that everybody becomes aware that in México there is not prejudice, racism...bias...etc and those social calamities that affect today's societies... rest assured in México everyone is welcome...sure you have to learn spanish (if you can) knowing another world class language like spanish will increase the best of your abilities to interact with the mexican communities in order to adapt more into the mexican society just you have to do your part.... that's all.... Welcome to México..apres la pluie le beau temps...!!! 🇺🇲🇨🇵🇲🇽

I’m tired of you Mexicans hating your own people. Just like black people that were born in the US but their ancestry is African, that makes them African American and most don’t know about their tribe or what part of Africa they’re from. You need to accept and understand that we’re a melting plot in the US you can be multicultural, bilingual etc.

This was so lovely . I went to playa a few weeks ago and I truly felt at home. Planning on moving to Mexico now
I absolutely love this! THANK YOU for compiling this necessary information. As a Black community we need to realize that the rest of the world isn't like America or "worse". It can in fact be better. I also love this bcuz i did a mission trip in a village near Playa Del Carmen in high school and I felt so at ease there. And I've always wondered if it was just my childish innocence or if it was actually that warm as you said. I'm glad to know that it is bcuz I've really been wanting to go back. You are a gem Misako! Keep traveling and cataloging the Black experience around the world bcuz it's SO needed. Sending you so much love Queen 😍💕✨🙌🏿💯

I’m not a women of color .. however my baby boy is. I am super worried about raising him in the US. So I’ve been watching loads of Black American you tubers talk about where they feel safe. I am going there next month and hope to meet some of you!
Absolutely my sista. This type of information and intel from BLACK PEOPLE is precisely what has been missing for many of us collectively. Let's go! Subbed!
Loved this video! I’m planning to move to Mexico next year, and as the white grandma of biracial grandkids I was concerned about how they and my friends would be perceived. This is the first video I’ve found addressing this so THANK YOU! That’s one more thing I can be comfortable about. PEACE & LOVE
I’m sitting here crying b/c I’m so thankful to you all for making this, letting me know there is a place where we can be safe.
IM NOW IN MEXICO CITY FOR 2.5 MONTHS... TRAVELING TO ETHIOPIA. BUT IM ENJOYING IT HERE.
You are such a beautiful woman with a beautiful soul. I love how you interacted with other people to get their point of view of México in a detailed way. México also has blacks, but unfortunately a lot of them live in poverty. But it brings me joy to see that a good amount of people of color like you are making progress in Mexico. I love your videos, please make more content like this. Much love 🇲🇽
Watching this video is truly making me rethink my life choices. I love what you all are doing and love to see that is POC that are living their best life. I was born and raised in the United States but got my dual citizenship because my mom was from Mexico. Even though Spanish is my first language I kind of lost it growing up. In 1992 I moved to Mexico City with my ex husband witch greatly improved my Spanish.Since then I moved back to the states and I have since remarried and was planning on retirement in Mexico. With the current climate in the US and seeing racism how I have never seen it before it’s sad.. and I honestly don’t want to wait 8 years to retire.
Make no mistake, people in Mexico are mostly curious, Most are super cool and chill. Judgement is not one of their things.

Yeess! Mexican Caribbean is so relaxing and inviting where ever you go, people down there have a lot of respect for others specifically because the millions of tourist that go there to enjoy the beaches and all of the natural adventures, isla mujeres is my favorite!
Please please PLEASE make more videos like these! Really appreciated and learned alot from hearing everyone’s diverse perspectives and experiences so thank you so much for making this
This is the first video I've seen of African Americans moving to Playa, but I did come across a lot of videos of African Americans moving to the Merida area. If I recall correctly many are single moms, I assume moving there for the low cost of living because the focus of those videos was on how affordable that area is.
this series is gonna be my favorite ever. you are an inspiration
Miss Misako es usted sin duda lo mas hermoso que eh visto este dia, there something to practice on your spanish.
im in love with the fonts u use - honeypot films
Misako literally glows more in each video. I can feel the happiness and liberation shine off of her. Seeing her journey of growth is so beautiful !!! I love herrrr sm
Thanks for this video. I know the area and the the beach, Playa del Carmen, long before it became a small,wonderful city. In my opinion it is one of Mexico, magical places. I truly love the place.
I love your smile in the beginning of the video Misako. It shows how happy you are feeling. The key for Mexico is to be humble. Mexicans appreciate this quality a lot. Disfruten de Mexico, disfruten de la vida y no tengan miedo hablar Español. Hablar otra idioma, te abre las puertas a otra cultura. Just remember guys, this is Mexico, not the States, It’s another way of life. As long as you are humble and respectful of Mexicans, you will have an awesome time.
A city to consider if you speak Spanish a little more is the city of Orizaba in Veracruz, considered the cleanest and most orderly city in Latin America, safe, and soo cheaper
I’m only at the intro and I already love the idea

Beautiful idea Misako! btw I love Nasir's energy
I really loved this video. I follow some of the people's channels that you had in your segment and came across this one. It is so inspiring to hear all of your experiences living in Mexico. I am planning on moving there this year, and still narrowing down exactly where. Leaning towards Oaxaca or Merida area, but the way you all talked about it there makes me want to get on a plane tomorrow. I am white, but I too need the escape from the toxicity that the US has become lately, and a more peaceful, affordable, less stressful life. And living in a place where people are more accepting of each other and friendly and warm and welcoming is just what I am looking for.
So proud of you. Great vid. Yes, it very nice to see blacks branching out, and being passport conscious. I’m not KZread literate, but I wish I would have been. Then I could have shared my experience of living in Ethiopia for 3 years. I was born in San Diego and grew up in L.A. At any rate, I’m happy about the exodus so many African Americans are making. Congrats!
love the format and content of this!!
Ah! I didn't know you were in CDMX now, Misako. I would love to hear how it's going for you. I love CDMX and often think about moving there after college.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience. Very valuable. Thanks, dear young, brothers and sisters.
Misako, don't feel like you need to gloss over the machismo and sexism in my country, we are aware it exists and is worst than most other places even if some of the population chooses to ignore it unfortunately... our society is really patriarchal and traditional in some aspects and that's something we're trying to change and thankfully a lot of the newer generations are becoming aware of the issue and trying to solve it, people trying to solve it such as the feminist movement in Mexico, make protests and other campaigns to bring awareness, it is sad to see that a lot of people (mostly men) in my country mock this efforts, but I stay hopeful that in the future this will change. Thank you for speaking and sharing your experience about this in the video :) ❤💜

Just about ready to pack my bags and go! Any advice on how to find stays with reliable high speed internet for those of us planning to work remotely?
@FindMyFoodStu

I wouldn’t say many places have “high speed internet” but most of the newer-ish buildings here have 30MB WiFi (which really will be 8-10) and will be good enough for normal work and most video calls. You will also find digital nomads congregating in certain coffee shops where it’s good or coworking spaces that actually do have super fast WiFi.
@zucc3039
3 жыл бұрын
I think the internet there is fairly inexpensive. If you’re in a more prospering city you shouldn’t have a problem having high speed internet. Like all things of course, do your own research and plan beforehand
Thanks Misako, great to know that we do exist and thrive in Mexico!
