I always took it that Mephiles lived through out time and time traveled to gain all the info he did. We never saw Mephiles story completely, only snippets throught out his time jumping

You say that Mephiles shouldn’t have all this information yet he can travel through time. For all we know, he could have lived through the entirety of history and the whole future and gain every last piece of information he needed. How did he know what would convince Silver to try to kill Sonic? How did he know everything about what would happen in Shadow’s future? How could he possible know how to use a broken down computer in the middle of a broken future? Seriously, where did he even get a functioning power source from? We know he didn’t have any other Chaos Emeralds.

A small detail that I tend to forget myself is that the Omega with Shadow after Mephiles’ fight has lived their way throughout the future of Crisis City, and confirms to Shadow that he is responsible for capturing him in the future. But I feel like that makes Shadow’s arc in 06 stronger, choosing to continue to help those who would capture him, because it’s the right thing to do.

@@ge789 No I thought Mephiles lied about that to try get shadow on his side or something. Mephiles literally told Omega that he captures shadow as a lie but Omega believes it cause hes a robot. He does this to get to shadow's mental game just for the fun of it. In reality, Mephiles could destroy everyone but hes just that evil that he goes through that trouble

I think im one of very few who actually likes Black Doom, both in design and character. I of course love Mephiles more, but i do like Black Doom a great deal too

Blackdoom definitely has a cool memorable design

If Mephiles truly can gain some abilities from taking someone's shadow, then if possible, I wanna see him do it to other characters besides Shadow somehow. Just imagine: Chaos Werehog or a Gai Monster One of Sonic's friends and allies, ANY OF THEM A Chao Infinite Gemerl or Neo Metal Sonic (if possible) It would be certainly cool to see

Slightly off topic, but: Black Doom hates humanity for their free will, since his own race are all connected in a hive mind. One could say the ultra harmonious life of black arms, with no in-fights or misunderstanding seems preferable to humanity's "greed and hatred" and ability to harm their own kind. Black Doom is genuinely disgusted by humans, he was disgusted (and amused) by Gerald apparently betraying Earth and by GUN soldiers killing people on ARK. One thing that i think is really awesome is that some of the things BD says about humanity... was repeated by insane Gerald. Its almost like on some level he believed BD is right about humanity.

Woah, I never really looked at it that way. So Gerald after working on the ultimate life form with Black Doom, ends up falling to the wrath of humanity and thus becomes similar to Black Doom in his own way through isolation and sheer betrayal.

It's worth noting that Mephiles in most of Sonic 06 is actually from the future, 200 years later(we know because 90% of him is either in discussion with future characters, or after he turns into his crystalline form in the future). So the more nefarious actions is from one who's had time to adjust to this new reality and learn what he needs to do. The reason Mephiles didn't merge with Iblis in the original timeline is because that version was still getting a grasp on the lower plane of existence he was thrown in, and by the time he got a grip on reality Iblis mutated too far from its living flame. So he needed to use the time travel scheme, and Mephiles is somewhat of a coward so he got people to do his dirty work before just doing it himself

Ths duality between Mephiles & Doom is they represented Shadow duality of the opposite Humanity an darkness he tries to keep under control. While fans say there both evil. Black Doom represents the lies an manipulation of shadow past while mephiles represented shadow truth but in a much twisted an nihilistic way. While Shadow over the course of the games have to develop he basically he to deal with something that was block his way to reach his goal. This is mainly his moral ambiguity an restrictions to his choices an is some what Chaotic Neutrual an try to keep peace on both sides showing the multiple endings an routes in shadow the hedgehog. After the game an currently in Sonic 06 he understands mephiles an basically knows that his own actions created mephiles the darkest part of himself. Since reason why shadow didn't want to join him is mainly that he is not to be trusted an shadow will stay on the side of humanity even if they turn on him since he ddeveloped this utiltarism complex you can watch an play thr japanese version of the game to see this duality more since it handle shadow dialogue an text mors maturely.

Finally somebody made a sonic video including black doom, I personally enjoyed black dooms character unlike a lot of sonic fans

I think Mephiles spent a lot of time time-traveling after he got free. That's how he got the knowledge of Shadow being hunted in the future. It's likely he spent a lot more time doing that and learning than we know about.

Theory: BlackDoom is Mephiles, but reborn. It would explain a lot about why he knows how to use a computer, and why he knows everything about Shadow. It's crazy yes, but you never know. Edit : It would also explain why Mephiles wants Shadow gone because if you chose the Hero path in Shadow The Hedgehog, you're betraying BlackDoom.

that doesnt explain why blackdoom would be reborn or why would blackdoom be somehow tied to solaris? i mean with that logic u could say anything could be mephiles reborn. The sole reason mephiles hated shadow is because shadow stole his freedom once he became "conscious".

Black Doom is original Mephiles?🤔 Gross but interesting.

I like both of those villains. Most people don't think that Black Doom is a good villain, but I disagree. While Mephiles feels like a thematic villain for Shadow, Black Doom is also a thematic villain. Mephiles represents the way power corrupts by your choices. Black Doom represents the way evil can come from the essence of your identity. When Shadow was struggling morally, first he had to defeat Black Doom to prove, that his past doesn't dictate his future, even if he is basically genetically predisposed to be evil. Then Mephiles comes and builds on that. Not mentioning Shadow's origins anymore, he still creates a debate about how Shadow can turn evil as a response of the world pushing him into it. But I think it wouldn't work if Black Doom didn't come first.

I wonder, if Mephiles has the power to travel through Time Why didn’t he fuse with Ibilus when he was free in some point in there timeline. He can summon the 7 chaos emeralds to his location anytime he wants as long as he has 1 emerald, he held on to that Purple Emerald through the entire game even in the lad 10 years in the past.

OK, this is kinda confusing: the only time when Iblis was free was in the future, when the Earth was destroyed by him, so fusing with him then is pretty pointless. Mephiles knew that his actions in the present were his way of unleashing Iblis, so he used his ability to control time to use Silver, who was born into the future Mephiles himself created, as a tool to create this same future. Kinda ironic when you think of it.

My theory is that Iblis was released as a result of Elise dying as a result of Eggman’s ship failing. The seal on Iblis was technically never broken as it could only be released if Elise felt despair (or cried in the English dub). Due to this, Iblis would have had to gain consciousness and was completely separated from Mephiles. In my opinion, Iblis is what remains of Elise, as she has visions of Iblis destroying Solianna and seeing Silver in the ruins, despite never being there for any of those events and is merely seeing what Iblis sees in its future, where it has consciousness.

Just pertaining to Mephiles’ not remembering his life before being split, apparently in a leaked script of Sonic 06, when being sealed in the Sceptre of Darkness by Shadow, Mephiles says “I am the sun. I transcend time itself. A bridge to other worlds!” I’m assuming that means that Mephiles does remember everything from his life as Solaris

It's a voice splice - the "Mephiles" comes from when he introduces himself to Silver, and "time" comes from one of the times he mentions "time travel," or really any time he uses the owrd "time".

My thing about Mephiles' intelligence, he's able to travel through time. So while he may not have "existed" for more than 10 years, he does have the ability to time travel and learn at his leisure. He also (this is a theory) may have lived through one timeline and learned from this one before going back in time with Silver

Both came out in 1992, but because Dragon Ball Z was an anime based on the the manga it had to wait for the manga to debut Super Saiyan. Which resulted in it's first anime appearance coming several months behind the original and Super Sonic

This video is bullshit when it comes to power scaling. Mephiles can't beat Shadow, he literally defeated Mephiles who had two Chaos Emeralds at the end of Shadow's story. Shadow beat him in his base form. you can't even say Black Doom isn't as skilled with the Chaos Emeralds, he has only ever used them ONCE to amplify his Chaos Control ability to warm the Black Comet to Earth. Black Doom was so confident in his power(unlike Mephiles) that he left the Emeralds behind for Shadow to use against him in their final battle. during said boss battle, Black Doom even stated "It seems that I've underestimated the power of the emeralds. No matter, I will destroy you all the same." If Black Doom had used the Emeralds, he would have had to force Shadow to remove all 4 of his Limiters for sure. Anyway in a fight with no emeralds involved, Black Doom wouldn't even have to transform to beat Mephiles. Also Black Doom's Design is unique and Original, he looks like a Devil and a Ghostly apparition. as Devil Doom he looks like a full on Demon. Unlike Mephiles who was literally a Shadow recolour and even his crystalline form is still owed to Shadow's likeness. So in terms of originality, Black Doom again takes this.

In fairness, Mephiles looking like Shadow is given a reason in-universe. His "true" form is a black slime. If we're talking end forms, Solaris looks better than Devil Doom, but that may be an attempt to make it look more "godly" posed to the Black Arms's more freakish style.

Considering Japanese culture Gerald should have been 56 years old if Japanese people get married at 20-ish that means if they have a child a year after the marriage Gerald should have been 42 years old when Maria and Eggman were born and 14 years later he should 56, so he should have had brown hair slightly gray and less gray on his mustache. So Gerald isn’t in his 60’s/70’s he should be in his mid 60’s.

what I question honestly is how black doom is able to create physical illusions, something only infinite does with the phantom ruby....kinda. What I mean? The first semidark level of shadow the hedgehog, the ark. that stuff actually exists, shadow is not just tripping balls like he is in the true hero path. before the level, he actually hovers in space.

I know this comment is 2 years old but I'm gonna answer it anyway. It's probably because Shadow and Black Doom were linked by the hivemind so maybe it was some kind of thing he could do to Shadow only. This was such a good concept that could've been used to his advantage but they never fully used its potential. Sega has a bit of a problem with that.

I'm sorry, but in my opinion Black Doom is one of the worst Sonic villains. His design fits very well for a heavy metal album cover, his charecteristics are pretty bland, his evil plan and motives of manipulating Shadow aren't that interesting nor complex. He was just... there, being all big and meanie. What a waste. Mephiles on the other hand, is brilliant. He's all of what Black Doom should've been and much more.

I don't understand why you would call Black Doom's design generic. I can't think of any character in existence that looks anything like him. Maybe there are lots of Japanese demons in the folklore or modern media that I don't know about... but I really didn't see any being even slightly similar. And I do like his design. I like Mephiles more, but not really because of his design.

Mephiles... beating DEVIL Doom? You seemed to be speaking sense up until that point. Lay off the cocaine lol. Devil doom shot blasts of fire as well as physically destroyed BUILDINGS BIGGER than the platforms and buildings that Shadow fought Mephiles on. Mephiles beat shadow without him REMOVING his inhibitor rings. When he DID remove them? Shadow floored him and LITERALLY RAN THROUGH him and he made a full scale retreat. SUPER Shadow, who is on a COMPLETELY different tier power from even regular shadow without inhibitor rings, was NEEDED to defeat Devil Doom.

iblis is the power of solaris and mephiles is the mind of solaris so you should expect that hes not destructive as devil doom but let me remind you that even shadow remove his rings its still not enough to beat mephiles he even needs a help from omega im sure shadow would have use his super form only if he has the 7 chaos emerald
