Check out my Led Zeppelin playlist! • Led Zeppelin
Being one of Led Zeppelin's most recognizable songs, "Black Dog" is a great example of taking a seemingly simple riff and warping into into something incredibly unique. "Black Dog" just seems to ebb and flow throughout the different sections.
The unusual rhythm for the song was accomplished by drummer John Bonham keeping count for the band by clicking his drumsticks together during the quite sections. If you turn it up loud enough you can actually hear it on the original recording. Partly because of this unique feel "Black Dog" has long been a Led Zeppelin fan favorite.
Jimmy Page's rhythm parts are almost like solos in themselves with the way he continuously creates rhythmic single note lines throughout the song. The signature main riff was actually credited to John Paul Jones, but Jimmy Page seems to take it and run with it. His solo during the outro section of the song uses a TON of signature Jimmy Page licks including rapid pentatonics and smooth oblique bends.
"Black Dog" is truly a masterpiece of classic rock and pure signature Led Zeppelin throughout. Good luck! #blackdogguitarlesson #ledzeppelin #guitarcovers

Can you do more Led Zeppelin? You're the only guitar teacher I watch.
The thing about Jimmy's riffs is they're so fun and easy to play, but when you watch footage of a live show, your just thinking wtf?, how does he put all those accents and character on each note. he actually puts a fair bit of vibrato into the opening riff and i'm just like where does he find the time to squeeze in vibrato?

This lesson really helped me Carl in refining these riffs-You showed me a new way to nail that C chord using the fifth fret
YAY, I was waiting for you to get this video back!
Thanks Carl, another great lesson. Now its time for part 2!
If you think about it it means that you're lesson is so good that it sounded like the original and that it was removed for copyright. Dude you are amazing
You're so spot on with LZ songs. That's incredible!
Thanks for doing some Zeppelin Carl! More please.
I like your guitar tutorials every , songs seem easier than before
Thanks for that very clear explanation. I liked the bonus harmony bit and the chorus variation options. I have to work everything out with some kind of pulse to the right hand or it doesn't make sense rhythmically. The timing on the recording is tricky as you mention and I did struggle with this when I tried to work it out by ear many years ago. In particular I found the timing of the repeats on the 2nd part of the riff in E (B,D,Eb,E, B D E) hard to pick up. I found that using accented alternate picking helps. The 1st time starting on an upstroke on the B to accent the downstroke on the D... up on Eb... accent down on E.. etc. 2nd Time start on a downstroke with the count on B... up on D... down on Eb.. up on E...etc. 3rd time start on upstroke again.... 4th and final time start on accented down on the B and it comes out nicely in time on the A riff. Another thing I do is utilise the open D and 2nd fret E on the D string rather than D and E on 5th and 7th fret A string in the decending bit of the A riff. It gets your hand into the open A position nicely using open D rather than the fretted "steps" down the A string which don't feel natural to me. My 2 cents worth anyway. Thanks again for your video.
You're the man, Carl!
Cool riff! :)
Great tutorial.
THANK YOU CARL!!!!🎸🎸❤️❤️👍👍

Nah I think it’s because Marty is aimed more for beginners and Carl is for like intermediate people that want to learn their favorite songs, I started with Marty and moved on to Carl as the years went on and I bet many people have too. They are both great 👍

Great lesson , I know you usually play it through initially before you break it down. Does KZread take it upon themselves to delete it due to copyright legalities, and why is it ok to cover someone else's song? 🇨🇦

Carl, you're teaching these songs and yet the demo parts are getting removed? There shouldn't be a copyright placed on certain parts of your videos.

I'm not stupid. And you're good at playing the guitar. Maybe I'm not interested in being "ready for this song" but holy mother of God I want to learn so I'm going to keep watching this video. Please don't play the whole sequence after every note you teach because it makes me feel slowwwwww lmao
Carl is very good agreed, Marty is good too, sometimes I get lost following him though

That's bullshit having to remove the beginning, like the real thing hasn't been played a billion times on the effin radio and everywhere else!!😡😡 I think Page would think it's stupid....
