Prefiltering is important. When you're collecting the waste oils its best to put them through a minimum of 50 microns. I buy 4ftx4ft felt cloths which give me a 30 micron pre-filter. Might take awhile but it worth it to keep your automotive filters lasting way longer. *pre-filter *dewatering *final filtration Gravity fed system designs help with keeping costs low. Spend the money for the totes, barrels and piping. If you have the money to spend? Build an all in one collection and filtration unit.

I use a 1 micron bag filter that gravity drains into my holding tank, from there it goes into my vehicle's fuel tank as needed; quick, cheap, and easy.

I have been using filterbags since 2013 for my VW TDIs. The 1.9 L ALH engine is the most tolerant. The good thing about filter bags s you can easily clean them if you are using WVO and use them for a long time. You can also pour in about 7 liters at a time. I stuff on filter bag inside another. You can get bags tat filter down to one micron. Personally I think that is more than needed, especially if the WVO has been settling for a long time. I used to get oil from an A&W, and after it settled about 20% would be sludge at the bottom. Now I get if from private Pakistani restaurant, and they don't abuse their oil as much and the sediment doesn't amount to more than 5%. Filtering cold WVO is best because then the fats gel out and will be trapped by the filter and you get purer oil. I have never pulled the injectors but have found that sustained usage of high rates of engine oil (which I also use) will eventually lead to a loss of power. Engine oil, unlike vegetable oil creates ash when burning. To restore performance I go back to running straight diesel for a while with lots of injector cleaner and diesel additives. Also pushing the engine uphill at high rpm blows out conisderable amounts of accumlated ash. I've smoked up the whole road doing that (that's fun and I do it when no one is behind me). After this, there is notable power gain. The trick is to not overdo it with the engine oil. I find WVO is friendlier to the engine and exhaust than engine oil - especially synthetic diesel engine oil. And there is no need to feel swqueamish about using lots of gasoline, when blending. Up to 20, or some even say 25% gas is ok for older engines to thin down thicker oil. For my ALH 20% is just fine, even if I'm not using any oil as fuel. Just some thoughts.

I would say the Wvo is easier on the engine / parts too long term. That said I have ran lots without issues. Just the Wvo is harder for people to get. I will be doing some videos on that too

Gr8 vid. U could do like they do with chip frier. They filter their oil. By metal screen with paper filter paper on top with couple cups of diatomaceous earth (cheap from pool shop) you just circulate it for 30 minutes. Filter it down to 1 micron and take the water out to. Will change to brown colour. Cheers. (U can reuse the filter paper too)

word of caution theres multiple thread pitches on these filters, 1"-12 and 1"-14 are the most common i believe.. get the wrong filter for the filter head and itll thread on like 3 turns and jam up.. spent a while fighting it and breaking tools trying to tighten it before i realized.. you dont suspect the threads when you get 3 turns trouble free and its tight not wobbly

The these parts numbers I have are all 1-14. But if you going to use a filter you want to check and make sure the pitch is right for the base

After a month of running mostly black diesel, I think the injectors are getting cooked up. I'm gonna grab some diesel kleen today then run it through for a bit today. Maybe 50/50 mix is isn't a bad idea after all. Or maybe a 2 tank setup to run diesel through before shutting it down I haven't sprung for a centrifuge yet, I've been using the cream seperator gallon by gallon. Cleaning it in between but I'm wondering if it gets filthy in the first quart then does no filtration after that. I'm also gonna put some clear inlincme filters in today

Have you worked with 3/4-16 filters? My heads are 3/4-16. I have 4 filters before my pump. So far I have not sourced filters. I was considering a single 20 micron, to a pair of 5s, then to a 3. I am doing a 24v p-pump swap next week. I am open to suggestions and asking for your input. I settle and filter my wmo down to 10 microns before it goes into the tank. Thanks for the great vids!

With a filter only set up with no centrifuge would you recommend pressuring the system or just going with gravity feed

  • @CUTTERUPROB
