‘Black day for the country’: PNG pharmacist addresses riot chaos

Sky News presenter Cheng Lei interviews a local pharmacist about the devastating impact violent riots have brought upon businesses in Papua New Guinea.
As a result, the Australian High Commission has stepped up security measures after rioting and looting broke out.
“Yesterday was a black day for the country,” Anthony Aindri told Sky News Australia.
“As a Papua New Guinean, I was not really happy in terms of what people did.
“We’ve seen most of the shops have been damaged, most of the shops have been looted.”

Correct I as a resident in PNG for many years have always observed the politicians to have taken advantage of the people hard work. They've used us to give them the perks & previlige while we get poor and poor. So the incident yesterday is a reminder to those incompetent politicians to improve & provide more benefits to us locals. Besides, I've already made up my mind to migrate to another country. It may have it's own negetive issues but at least there are opportunities in another country.

The government of the day can't be blamed in mention for the disorderly results of opportunists gentleman. The matter at it's worst eventuated from the nation's internal security who went on protest over a technical glitch that resulted in a minor cut in certain public servants pay. Not everyone was involved and the issue is minor in nature. PNG still upholds the peaceful democratic reputation regardless of the law and order issue. The matter is being looked into and resolving measures are imposed at present to restore and rebuild the ruins. Normalcy should be effective in the near coming future. The government of the day can't be blamed by any means and that's for certain.

Actually tax cuts is an added spiralling effect to high inflation and high unemployment rate thus causing massive chain reaction to looters who stormed into household named shops including Asian run shops and bakery to be ransacked and burnt down to ashes. Remember that the festive period just ended and its the first fortnight huge pay cuts on public servants taxes. What an unexpected sporadic and massive looting, ransacking and burning down of buildings and property stolen worth in the millions in the city of Port Moresby,Papua New Guinea. It's tarnished a bad image to investors abroad to come to P.N.G. as the New Year 2024 has just commenced into the second week when this incident occurred, period.TA!🤔

Based on economics if Australia was selling/exporting to countries with supply and demand chain's and was putting up the money bank Rolling Pacific neighbours by way of our dollar there dollar then another's dollar this would be an issue. Would like to see if there is a trade conflict. Free trade and fair trade agreements being followed and monitored . What is the currency conversion rate of Papua New Guineas money against our Australian dollar. Example we can't even keep up with the cost of living. So if you had to pay our prices there WOW. Not on all things and not by everyone. We have this from here and we have this from there. The haves and have knots.
