Black Brigade (1970) | aka Carters Army | WWII Robert Hooks Richard Pryor

Фильм және анимация

Black Brigade is the DVD release title of the television movie Carter's Army, which aired as an ABC Movie of the Week on January 27, 1970. The movie is a war drama that stars a host of prominent African-American film actors, including Richard Pryor, Rosey Grier, Robert Hooks, Billy Dee Williams, and Moses Gunn.
A redneck officer (Stephen Boyd) is put in charge of a squad of all black troops charged with the mission of securing an important hydro dam in Nazi Germany. Their failure would delay the Allied advance into Germany, thus prolonging the war. These African-Americans had been relegated to cleaning latrines and therefore have little real military training, but Captain Beau Carter has no choice. He leads the rag-tag unit to secure the dam and the men reveal themselves as heroic. - Wikipedia

Yes, they were made out of pure Silk. Silk is white & I don't think they dyed any of them. White bleads in with cloudy skies. Ships are Grey to blead in with the ocean & background. Parachutes were made by women not to far from where I live in Virginia. Manufactured In Orange County During World War 2.

Watched this movie back in the 1970's on ABC's Movie of the Week with my dad who served during WWII in the US Coast Guard aboard the ship GM Randall AP115 as one of the few black sailors on board. One story he talked about for years was the transport of 700 Polish orphans from India to New Zealand known as the "Wellington 700". During a 2005 reunion with some of his shipmates in Las Vegas a guest speaker came up to my father unexpectedly and told him she was one of the children whom he had given their first taste of ice cream during the voyage 60yrs prior.

I was proud to know Alex Chapell, a black man, Ret. Master Sargent, US Marine Corps. WWII Vet served in the Pacific and then a Master Drill Sargent until he retired. He was my work supervisor when I was in college. A good and kind man although more strict with the guys. The US military ended segregation before the war was over. (No one had Afro's or beards/mustaches in the military during WWII or anyone in service, not regulation) Blacks fought in the Revolutionary War, Civil War, Indian Wars. Spanish American War, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afganistan and multiple other conflicts to this day.

Actually moustaches were allowed as long as they were kept trimmed. Beards weren't allowed, but in combat personal grooming had to take a back seat so some men did sometimes have beards until they could remove them, but afros...no way.

Later on I bought my first house in a mixed community in San Diego where I was born and raised. My kids grew up without prejudice or hatred towards anyone except when it was a personal dispute. I also coached football teams for mixed race teams. The house I bought was in a mixed race community and was made up of Mexicans blacks whites Asians and Pacific Islanders. And everyone got along well with many friendships. Just reminiscing …

I believe this movie needs re-done with more input from black veterans of WWII. Desegregating the troops started in WWII but not full desegregation, and to me that is a part of history we should never forget. It was a slap in the face to thousands of black men who enlisted only to be given service jobs like the men in this movie. That really happened it was disgraceful and wrong, but it did happen, and we shouldn't forget it. I firmly believe that when we forget history it will repeat it's self, and history like this should never be repeated in anyway.

3 yrs in the war, and they haven't run into snipers yet? snipers go for officers 1st. your men know your rank, so you should remove any rank insignia, from your uniform when going into the battleground.

Why were they using 1903 Springfield Rifles instead of The Garand Rifles ? And WHY was there a Deaf soldier which should not been in the army ? Should have been 4-F ( rejected because of him not hearing . So many things wrong in this movie )

Most black troops were non combat were issued 03s in the ETO. Black combat troops were issued m1s. As for The deaf soldier, he probably lost his hearing earlier from a loud as fire fight.
