If you're ever in Beaufort, SC drop by The Stillness Academy, the instructor is a student of Professor Dean and is a phenomenal practitioner of the art and holistic living. I've been going there for two years in September, best decision I ever made.

Excellent video as always I was just curious why they were only just learning breakfalls at this level? Ukemi is a japanese ju jitsu, day one basic move. Shouldn't they already know how to breakfall correctly?

Although there were many advanced students, there were also some people that had never done martial arts before attending this seminar. I'm always trying to make sure everyone is safe and on the same page in regards to ukemi and falling skills.

You'd be surprised how many BJJ practitioners don't know how to do correct break falls. They also don't practice them as much in normal training. Always good to have a refresher.

First off, this is a sport. Second, people in the real world wear clothes. Third, I can throw someone in the real world with a nogi tai otoshi with no problem. I would just be concerned they wouldn't know how to take the fall and could really hurt themselves.
