@@chaeobods 57 here and absolutely right. omg those erstwhile innocent times were just perfect for us kids. not saying life was in the world of Enid Blyton perfect as bad shit still went on but wow, look at todays kids.. mobiles painted faces lashes, no hide n seek and all those wonderful games we played. everyone wants to be grown up, indoctrinated by tv and the Kardashians et al. I thank fuck I'm not a kid now . my eyes well up. when I think of running across fields thru woods playing innocent war games. keep the faith people and never forget how bloody lucky we were. x

This has to be one of the finest pieces of music ever to grace a TV series. I can see my mum now with tears rolling down her face. A great reminder of when weekend TV was something to relish. Not a trashy reality show in sight

Turn on one's TV today and it won't be too long before you're bombarded with frightful sensationalism featuring self-obsessed morons on programmes like Naked Attraction( grown adults bollock- naked on national TV groveling for dates!) and The Sex Clinic (again grown adults on National TV exposing us all to their rancid STD's and egos out of control!!) I believe this is what such things as FaceBook has created, monstrous creatures who believe everything about them and their lives is interesting to everyone else. Including their diseased sexual organs!! 🎩

This theme tune came in to my head for some reason and just had to YT it; Can confirm, I did tear up a little. I really don't know why, but deffo memories of Swap Shop, Tiswas, Banana Splits, The Red Hand Gang et al - all the innocence of childhood, all came flooding back. Now surrounded by death and misery. Nevermind - Happy New Year folks :-)

Crying at how much time has passed and how quickly. I'd go back in a heartbeat if I could. Just to see my mum and dad again ...

It manages to be both melancholy and heroic; it evokes a world that is rich and full of adventure for the taking, but inspite of that there's a sadness running through it all. Which is what life is really.

This and the Golden Shot,hosted by Bob Monkhouse,filled some of our aimless Sunday late afternoons in the front room of our house in Bushey. Whoever didn't bag the armchair made do with viewing from the couch.

When I was a child I loved this programme ,every Sunday night I would watch and very often cried. Would love to revisit those days, I lived for horses. The theme tune is beautiful.😊😢😊

Oh those Sundays. They'll never come back. Absolutely wonderful - the music, the stories, the acting. Just wonderful.

Black beauty is such an iconic theme tune, especially from the 70's, remembering such wonderful memories a fantastic generation.

I'm crying here with so much joy for all the happy memories, and what a beautiful horse

I am 54 now and the first time, after 35 years of seeing this on tv...I cried while this tune was playing...😭. It moved me so much!! Longing back to my childhood etc etc... Many years this tune has been removed from youtube!! And now its back😁. The strength is the combi of music AND the images for me. Thanx!🥰

For 15 years of my early life, I basically spent every spare moment drawing horses because of that music and the imagery of black beauty running to the theme. I’m in my 50’s now and now can draw excellently. In art collage I was picked as the best life sketcher in my year of 90 students. My aptitude for muscle and bone structure is all thanks to this fine BBC program. I’m happy to pay my TV licence for all the great memories and even skills there programs ave given me.🥰

Stunning to think that some people haven’t seen this show in over 50 years, since their early childhood. And yet, within the first bar they would recognise this classic instantly if you were to play this to them. You don’t have to talk about some music ... its brilliance speaks for itself.

What an amazing theme tune. It just sends me back to Sunday afternoons as a child in the way that only TV themes can. This is probably the most iconic theme tune in a era full of them.

One of THE best horse shows ever. How I miss watching this.

You won't beat anything better than this when it use to be on a Sunday teatime in front of the fire the good old days

Its is so MAJESTIC to see a magnificent creature running free.

I knew Denis King and his lovely family back in the seventies, my mother used to clean there house in hampstead, I used to play with his lovely daughter fiona, who loved snoopy, great guy and a great composer

I'm knocking on 50 years old now, I remember this as a lad back in the late 70's early 80's (I was probably watching repeats of it then). I like to think the horse in the credits is really happy and enjoyed the shoot, it looks like it did. I wish I could have stayed as a child in the 70's/80's, life is much simpler when you are young, and those were more simpler basic times than we live in now.

Hello everyone, I have just noticed some awful comments from a few people, that I have now removed. I appreciate ALL the lovely comments that have been shared since I uploaded this. IF you are one that likes nothing better to do than upset people, pause, think about what your action will result to & kindly do us ALL a favour & do it somewhere else please.

Reading the comments here about how many other people "blubbed" when they heard this (myself included) makes me think there is something in the music itself. It had the same effect on me as "Bright Eyes" (Watership Down) which had me running out of the room every time it was on Top of the Pops to avoid me being teased by my brother.

I can really relate to what you said ..I think when I heard bright eyes as a child it was the first time I'd felt sadness ..I probably didn't even know what the feeling was ...but it was so powerful. I think some music is just very emotive and can really move you. Even if I hear that piece of music now it sends a wave of nostalgia and almost heartbreak right through me. Watership down is such a classic! Sorry for the long message ..what you wrote struck a chord!

My god this makes me sob my eyes out,pretty much like the littlest hobo theme. I commented on that too,takes me back to a time when life was much simpler and people were nicer to each other. I loved this when i was a kid! Lassie, six million dollar man, valley of the dinasaurs, baba papa...just couldnt wait for the weekend!!😊

Beautiful horse & the music is fab. Memories of my childhood. Absolutely fantastic. Life was great. Loved watching Black beauty on Sundays.

Classic British Sunday tea time viewing. Great days from a bygone era .

Judi Bowker is right when she says there is not enough good programmes for children nowadays where are all the Black Beauties and where are all the children s drama serials like we used to get back in the 70 s like Kizzy and Break in the Sun and the Changes ? todays children are really deprived of good children s tv X

We watched The Changes and I vaguely remember Kizzy,too,it was the name of the titular character who was a gypsy girl.

People in general were so much nicer lovely times.

This theme just got played on some TV advert right now and my ears pricked up. The banging of the drums just makes your heart beat that bit faster. Childhood memories x

so many memories off this...watching on a sunday tea time..whole family glued to the telly

I don't know what it is?...when we are children we can't wait to grow up yet...when we reach a 'certain' age we long for our childhood again...I think music above all else allows us to revisit happier days when we saw the world as a simpler and far friendlier place and it might not be just a case of middle aged people drowning in nostalgia. A recent study has discovered that the 1970s was a watershed period and it was possibly the last innocent decade....so maybe it was a golden time after all....Stacy Dorning...I liked the horse but I liked you much more!....beautiful piece of music.

I think there was a lot on TV in the 70s that was very harmful for kids, but our parents protected us from most of it. That's my understanding now in 2021. (9 in '79)

What a beautiful music theme of black beauty,, gives me goose bumbs, l've read the book on black beauty, as well as I had watched the TV series, brings back alot of good memories that sometimes I wish I could turn the clock back to the 70s and the 80s were days were much simpler and easier, and Sundays to watch black beauty, man, those were nice times, I sure miss it. Maybe l'll buy the DVD at a special store to find out if they still have that good ole times of black beauty, I really miss it. 😢

Because of this show my love for horses began. Childhood memories reactivated. Black beauty was a beauty indeed

Such a beautiful theme

I'm 54, and I loved watching Black Beauty, back in the day. The other night for no reason, I started humming the song, hubby joined in, I said wasn't that series brilliant he said yh. Nothing like that these days. ❤

Loved black beauty the theme tune amazing brings me back to my childhood wonderful times such a beautiful horse ❤️

This is just stunning music. I loved this programme when i was a child,it gave me my love of horses along with Follyfoot. I was up near Stockers Farm Rickmondsworth where it was filmed the other day, good memories.

Michele D. IVES-DAVESS I lived about 2 miles from stockers farm for 28 years. I always remember when it came on the music use to make me feel sad for some unknown reason. It was the same with bright eyes from Watership down.

Aww on a memory lane night from childhood and all the times my dad cried at films and said his eyes just wet , aww I miss those days now both my parents in heaven💖

Same here. Miss my parents deeply and those innocent days of being a child. Everything seemed safe and happy. Then we grow up and yikes!

this song and film still brings me to tears ! ... my 7 year old daughter saw the serie last week, she found it a bit exiting with the bad guys who try to steal Beauty ; -) but always a good end... love you sweet Beauty , still in my hart xxx ( splashing true the water beautyful !) btw we are still making beautyful memories here in 2019 ... times are still as wonderful as in my childhood. Moving forward in time , galopping like this Black Beauty did , all is well !

I think black beauty is the most handsome horse i have ever seen in my life

My wife plays this every time she comes on KZread to play some music. She always cries to it as she is a very emotional lady and a very beautiful one with it. Sometimes we even cry together as the music seems to evoke in us some warmth and magic from our childhood, to a time we both hold immensely precious. If you are reading this darling, don't cry, my arms are forever around you, and my lips will forever kiss away your tears. You are the best wife a man could ever wish for and I'm so glad we found each other all those years ago. Love you Angel.

I love this comment. I too cry because it reconnects me to my innocence and those golden Summer late afternoons of my childhood. I was born Dec 1968 and growing up in the 70's was a magical place to be. Bless you goggleheads for your moving comment. NAMASTE
