Hold the striker firm and pull the ferro rod towards you much easier to direct the spark into the base of your tinder your striker hand does not move

Nice Vid! Their instructional does state to place Ferro rod on pile, wonder if that would've helped.

Your not using the striker correctly. Your supposed to slowly nock off some fine shavings onto your tinder with your striker, like a little powder, then strike the sparks at it

I know how to use a ferro rod, ive started hundreds of fires with them. what I was doing was trying to mimic the way the ad depicted them striking such an easy flame with wet tinder!! thanks for watching!!!

@@ReWyldOutdoors You know how to use a ferro rod yet you where using it incorrectly. As a life long scouter and outdoorsman, your rod should always be sitting in the middle of your tinder period.

So I just did my own test. I bought a waxed string tinder with a bellows rod, had black beard fire starter I ordered and the waxed jute string I made from watching this video. All three did light and make a flame from the sparks of the fire starter. The two waxed string tenders started a flame immediately from the first sparks, The Blackbeard fire starter took quite a bit longer but did eventually form a flame. I fluffed all three up as much as I could but from my experience the wax string was much easier to get a flame going from the fire starters sparks. Thanks man!

If you had set the ferro rod ONTO the pile and stuck it, you would have had much better success, likely on the first strike.

Outstanding Review! I'll give it 4.2 NyNomad stars... The striker stick is magnesium. Do the soaking wet test again but scrape a pile of magnesium dust on/ over the material 1st then scrape hard to get the sparks to start the fire. If it works I'll bump it up to 5!

Howdy; Thank you for all you do. I want it if you still have it. (Joking! LOL! Honestly I figure it is long gone by now.) I watched this right after I saw what looked like "Black beard's" answer video to this. Bud, I could tell in the 1st 10 seconds you was doing it wrong. The "Black beard" video covered exactly what you got wrong, too. FIRST: You GOT to get your ferro rod closer to your tinder. I mean put it right IN the tinder. Some folks say move the striker & some say hold the striker still & move the ferro rod. Either way, put the rod IN the tinder. SECOND: Pa used to say, "Put your back in it boy!" Pa was right. You are a big ol boy so I know you can lean on that thing & put a few pounds of pressure on it. And that will make that rod spark to beat the band. If you go try what I said I think you could prolly light some wet lighterd knots. BTW, I see you got a video about camping on the Suwanee River. I camped & fished there long ago & I got kin there if they ain't all died off. (I'm 65.) I've been hoping to go to the Swamp Park for the Galaxy in the Swamp. Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!

Hate to tell you it does work soaking wet, we have done extensive testing using a tiny schrade Ferro Rod; much smaller than yours. It you go back and look at the way you were striking the rod one, you are holding the striker wrong, and two you never got any real sparks on the rope; put the rod down into the rope. So many people were complaining about their product that they decided to come out with a separate video and share it with us to share. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aZhmtZqJdtaTZLA.html

Shawn: Put your ferro rod next to your tinder bundle. Lock your striker in place and pull the ferro rod towards directing the sparks towards your tinder or other fire stating material or fat wood. This method works well, but takes practice. Just a suggestion for future videos.
