I like grain in a photo. It’s even a menu option in my Fuji XPro3 camera. Black and white photos with a bit of grain harken to film photographs, as you noted. They also stand out as sort of vintage and unique compared to all the hyper clear, hyper color, hyper post-processed photography I often see online. Great photos! Cheers.

Two days ago I popped into our local library here in Western Australia, picked up a bundle of photography magazines to look through and in the first one I opened was an interesting and touching story about yourself and your photography journey Paul. Very inspiring, as are these videos.

Outstanding Paul! And I love hearing your thoughts and camera/settings. You’ve inspired me to think about “projects”, which I will also add to my website. I assume that you often “see” an image that fits into one of your projects even while you’re out doing something else, correct? I’m still getting used to my “new” used Q2M, especially focussing. I like field and spot. I don’t like multi-field so much- a little soft focus, and I need to try eye focus some more.

Excellent monochrome photography -- thank you for sharing with us. I am slowly adding a greater percentage of my shots as monochrome, though I do first see the street in color, and light. I shoot monochrome jpg + RAW for color. Each month I seem to be adding more monochrome, while hopefully increasing the quality. Many of the photos are now taken in 40mm and 30mm, though I still appreciate 50mm and portrait lenses, thus venture out with them several times a month. I know, I know, use just one lens may be better in some ways, but I enjoy the challenger and results of more tight images taken 50mm to 90mm ,as well as, 28mm to 35 or 40mm will now be my most used. Above all seeing, framing and feeling the street makes it all work. Take care, Loren

I enjoy a 50mm now and again but I do find it a challenge. However it is good to have a change bow and again. If you find switching lenses often is good for you then that’s fantastic for variety.

I am looking for a new 35mm for my SL and noticed you bought the 7Artisans 35mm f1.4 are you still happy with the lens's performance? Great to experience such enthusiasm for photography. Inspiring work.

Oh man!! Funny thing is it broke after a fair bit of use. The extendable lens hood started to come off and then the whole lens came apart. I was very sad!

@@paulreidphotography That's a pity, I suppose the price reflects the build quality. My search continues. Wish they would make a SL Monochrome, as a left eyed photographer really struggle with rangefinder cameras. Many thanks.

Brilliant Paul. I have been shooting for 25 years and still struggling with articulating my “whys” for certain pictures. Often, it is, as you say, about how the image makes you feel. And THAT is good enough for me! It is where the practice becomes more of f the art rather than the science.
