BJJ Trip to (B Team, New Wave, & Fight Factory) Austin Texas

Things to consider before visiting:
Getting There: If you're flying in, Allegiant or Frontier are ideal. They are located in the smaller, southern terminal which will help bypass the traffic and chaos of the main airport terminal. Driving will probably be cheaper if you are staying for a week or more.
Your Accommodations: Make sure where you're staying has a washer and dryer for washing your gear.
Other things to consider are the proximity to: The gyms you'll be training at. A nearby grocery store. CBD Stores. Coffee shops. Other fun activities.
Gear: It should go without saying you should bring enough rashgaurds, gis, and anything else for training. Don't be that person. Ideally having enough to swap out clean gear for dirty that are going to be washed will work.
Getting Around: Turo is probably the most convenient, but will be expensive. You can also use Uber if you are not staying for long.
Austin is a bike friendly city. A bike is a nice way to get around but beware of hills and over exerting yourself. I also recommend the hike and bike trail along the river for some scenic views.
Gyms: It should go without saying there are a lot of places to train. You could throw a rock in any direction and hit a gym. My picks for this trip included Renzo Gracie, BTeam, and Brazilian Fight Factory. Honorable mentions go to 10th planet, and Six Blades. I will likely go there when I return.
Danaher taught knee cut passing for a class. He really only shows the technique two times so you have to pay close attention. $50 per "New Wave" class.
I had the pleasure of rolling with William Tackett and it went about as much as you'd expect.
Recovery: Highly recommend getting a massage sometime through the week. There is such thing as over training which will ruin your nights out. Don't be cheap like me or you'll get a rushed and awkward 60 minute massage in a old single story office building.
Heated or hot yoga will help as well. I found Black Swan Yoga to be pretty good. The have spots around the city. Their "pay what you can" format works well with a minimum of $10 for a 45 minute class.
Barton Springs is nice way to cool off. There is plenty of space to sun bathe or take a dip in the water. The cost is somewhere between $5-10 per person at the kiosk.
Food: So many options for food. Highly recommend trying out the food trucks and something you can't get back home. The Buzzmill is also a neat spot for coffee, food, and booze and is open 24/7.

Did basically the same thing last week for 11 days, and I have to say...10th Planet Austin was amazing. I loved it there, super welcoming. Had a similar experience with Renzos, John actually showed up 1 hour and 15 minutes late. Class was supposed to start at 10 and he rolled in at 1115. So, that must be the way it goes for a $50 class. If you go back, try 10th Planet. Of all the gyms, it was the best for us with incredible instruction. Gabe Tuttle did the classes I was in and he is awesome.

I trained at a 10th Planet for three years. I am familiar with the 10th Planet in Austin, many people seemed to love it. I think you would have had a good time there and all of the rolls you could handle. The skill level would have been pretty high since many people seem to cross train there from the B Team and other gyms as well. - It's good to see another grappler capturing their experience. The more of us the merrier.

I don’t train at Renzos but they did just recently get a bigger gym with much more space!
